Hi, I just want to put this statement out there in the universe, the forum might not care but 343 and corporate should care.
As of from what I’ve seen rn I’m saving my 60 bucks and here’s why.
The way sprint and clamber affect the mp gameplay (which is what I have always played the most in any halo game) is so far from what my idea of halo is. Halo combat was consistent in the original trilogy and It still felt like the game evolved every iteration, it was fresh, exciting and challenging.
The MP gameplay in the newer ones are, factually cat & mouse inducing, and cod like map design (functionality not aesthetically).
shockingly I don’t mind the graphics, I think they’re pretty cool, could be better but gameplay has always been a priority for me, that’s where halo has always shined admits all other games, well not anymore.
The zoomers have created this narrative that the community is split 50/50 about sprint. I don’t agree, I think that there are a great vast majority that disagree with sprint in Halo, as shown early on in halo 4 with all the letters and petitions. The Idea that I am proposing is that those people have since left and now it appears the community is at a 50/50 split.
Problem is, average halo population is at an all time low and has been ever since halo 4.
Since I am a boomer and a “bungie purist” that can’t let the game evolve I have decided to take the advice of the wise and true zoomers. I will move on, bye halo. We tried to criticize and uphold 343 to the standards of the glory halo games but it was to no avail. Sprint is here to stay, and I am not.
The online population will show that more people will leave halo than stay, and I think that broken holy triangle of combat is the reason why.
I cant prove this is absolute truth, but absolute truths are for insane people that believe in a skydad.

I have played Halo since the original back in 2001. I understand where you are coming from. There have been a few polls I have been apart of the past few years on the forums about liking sprint or not liking it. In my personal experience with them (not end all be all evidence) it has been almost a dead 50/50 split every time. Now this is a little skewed because the usual grouping is “no sprint” or “Neutral stance or yes sprint” but still. With that said, just because sprint is in the campaign doesn’t mean it is in multiplayer but probably is though. My guess is that for ranked or competitive playlists mainly, there won’t be sprint or many abilities at all. Classic halo. But for other not so sweaty offerings in multiplayer, they will open up the sand box and really give players freedom to use abilities and different equipment. If that’s the case then I’m all for it. Give the players options. There shouldn’t, and I’m assuming, wont be a one size fits all multiplayer this time around unlike Halo 5. At least that is the vibe I get from the game. I wouldn’t worry until we see more in the coming months.

True, true. I’ve read about some rumors saying that sprint might be a pick up, and if it is that is a big win.
The next step after adding sprint pickup would be making sure that 343 designs map as a sandbox that you interact with, not a sandbox that interacts with you.
They should design the maps around the holy triangle and then the ability pickups should just change the way you interact with that sandbox, just like bungie made damn sure is what happened.
The new maps have IMO all been very boring, lackluster and characterless.
Do you understand what I mean with sandbox that you interact with rather than the sandbox interacting with you?
For an example, bungie never designed a map around bubbleshield, it was just dropped in there and the way people played the map for a short period of time while someone had the bubbleshield up changed a lot.
Sprint doesn’t have the same affect.
I could take or leave sprint for multiplayer. But I think sprint is very necessary for a big open world campaign.

Vehicles fill the role for large scale traversal … which is what they’re intended for … which is what has been done in previous Halos … and no one complained.

Also look at other open world games, has anyone ever really used sprint to traverse? Rdr;horse. Witcher; Horse. Creed; Horse. Shadow of mordor; super insane movement + fast travel.
Oh and Destiny with the sparrow.
All open world games that even have sprint instantly motivates you not to use sprint as a means of getting everywhere with fast traveling and “vehicles”.
You will not, and never will use sprint to runt from point a to point b. At least not in every other open world game.
it’s a bad argument it doesn’t convince me at all.
What sprint will do is offer the same stale and boring cat & mouse gameplay that has made Halo less and less popular with each iteration.

Name a better arena shooter than Halo. Bonus points if you can come up with one for console.
I’ve loved every Halo for different reasons, and I’ve wanted changes in every halo for different reasons. The bottom line is that other than HR and H4, the franchise is the pinnacle of Arena gameplay.
Best of luck with future endeavors
