Halo Wars 2 was a rated T game and when the Awaken the Nightmare Flood DLC release, that and the DLC were still related T.
The Flood shown in Halo Wars 2 were pretty terrifying design, if the DLC there was rated T, how can it make Halo Infinite Rated M?
Is this terrifying enough to see in first person?
The Flood may make Infinite Rated M because, in contrast with HW2, we would see them in first person. That, in my opinion, would make the Flood considerably much more graphic than the HW2 representation.
Personally I don’t think Flood require a mandatory M rating, but to argue against your point that Flood were present in ATN yet it had a T rating isn’t an apples to apples comparison.
HW2 has a much more zoomed out and less detailed view of the game models, while FPS games require things to be up in your face.
Scary design isn’t enough for M. Its the gore and dismemberment that does. Halo Wars had the flood as well and was also rated T.
Keep in mind, Halo Wars 2’s gameplay wasn’t FPS so you weren’t up close and personal for “gore” to appear which the flood are responsible for bringing into the ratings. Rating doesn’t really mean much about the game’s quality and success so why does it matter? Halo Combat Evolved almost was rated T and look how successful that was.

The cutscenes though…I do think this is a “red apples, green apples” kind of argument.
My own two cents: I think the T is more indicative of not having blood splatter etc there and maybe no/ less bad language. Plus, you have to take into account how times change. I think M for flood in the present day would be a bit much. I’m still confident flood are in this game.

true though the cutscenes themselves never really show anything graphic and its alien body horror. The M rating tends to come in when its human body horror

True, good point.

I believe that a game’s rating does not determine it’s quality.
Halo wars 2 showed pretty much no gore except in the cutscenes (Phenomenal job Blurr!), but even then it was still minimal. Halo 2 and 3 had them actively break apart in game, especially Halo 3. H2 was mostly just armor pieces, an arm, leg or head that got blown off. Everything else like torso and extra thing disappeared. In Halo 3, the all the pieces were still there, and small chunks could be seen coming off too. In Halo Infinite, if 343 decides to allow gore in their game, I would expect it to be like Halo 3. The flood just doesn’t seem like the flood if they don’t break apart. That was one of the best parts about fighting them. It wouldn’t be as fun if the flood died the same way an elite or brute did. It made them a little more unique.
Even if the game is rated T, with the way the rating system works now, there could be blood stains on the ground and flood body pieces. M ratings now are more for heavy language or more adult content. Imo that was one of the things that the trailer was missing… for the amount of impact blood, there was none on the environment, which Halo has always had.

Rating does not determine a game’s success, that is true. But, when playing Halo 3, even if it had a teen rating, would you rather have the flood break apart like they do, or just have them die like an elite or brute? T games today can have blood stains and gore to an extent, just not much hard language.
Did we see the process of humans (or humanoids) turning into flood in HW2? I know there was some violence in the cutscenes, but nothing that gory. Simply seeing the flood are no different from seeing any other living organism, and the less humanoid they are the more it falls under cartoon violence when it comes to combat. The main thing that make the flood M, i think, are seeing flood forms dive into a humanoid body (live or dead) and having it slowly mutate into the flood. Seeing it up close will also certainly require higher-quality details (including gore). So, yeah, if 343i does them right, Halo Infinite would be rated M due to the flood alone.
With that said, the game may already be rated M regardless. Some places have it marked T as a placeholder, but it is not rated on the Halo Infinite webpage. The enemies we saw in the campaign demo certainly had blood effects when shot, even if it didn’t splash onto surfaces like in CE (maybe they still plan to add it, there was a lot missing from that demo).
What would you guys think about settings (or semi-separate releases) that allow you to choose between different ratings? They could tone down some effects for the T settings, and give M players the level of detail they like. A lot of games have settings like this, especially on PC for performance-tuning purposes.
