That is the real question; Will CSR be a competitive, and skill based ranking system like previous titles before it?
People seem to be under the impression that CSR will be just as competitive as past Halo titles ranking systems, but that’s the thing will it be? Will CSR create an environment for each playlist that keeps with the competitive spirit Halo has always had? Meaning will it meet requirements?
Any one competitive player knows what I am talking about, A competitive playlist with a ranking system has a narrowed/strict true skill pairing system so that you can match people of similar skill which is then represented by the number you get in game, in this case it would be the number on waypoint.
For each playlist with the ranking system incorporated it would have to be balanced, and fair for each team, and player participating in game, because as you know if the game isn’t fair for for each player off the start, and through out then it isn’t competitive at all. Which in turn means that any ranked playlist would have to have an extreme minimum of random occurances, which also means things like personal ordinances, random map ordinances, and custom loadouts wouldn’t be available to the playlist because of how much they take away from a competitive experience, and in turn make the game not competitive.
This also means that JIP would have to be overhauled, and finely tuned so players wouldn’t be thrown into games that give them a free loss or a free win. You also would have to add symmetrical maps, and removed one sided maps from each playlist that incorporates the ranking system.
The real issue is if CSR is in every playlist then every playlist would have to meet the standards of a ranked playlist, otherwise the CSR rank is even more meaningless, and less relevant than it is already being seen as.
Which present’s another issue which would mean that each playlist would lose it’s appeal to the core demographic, which is why social, and ranked playlists were separated in order for there to be a home for each type of player. (recreational, and competitive)
But if each playlist stays the same, and does not meet the requirements of a ranked playlist that means the CSR 1- 50 ranks will hold no merit at all, because a player who always searches action sack, and a player who always searches Team throwdown can both say they have 50;s when obviously an action sack 50 does not indicate skill, which in turn then means the system is not skilled, and is not competitive.
So with that in mind ask yourselves: Are we really getting a COMPETITIVE SKILL BASED ranking system? Or are we getting another version of BPR from Halo: Reach?
