I heard some where that Cortana will get killed off in Halo 4 or later Halo games. I personally don’t like that because I feel she plays to close a role with the Master Chief to get killed off.
It’s a possibilty, she has already enter’d rampancy.
If you dont know AI’s last 7 years I believe then enter rampancy which is the transition of thinking like an AI to thinking ,I’m assuming, to thinking with feeling and emotion like a human. Dont quote me on this, its very basic.
Also imo I dont want Cortana to die I think she should go out with a bang with Chief at the end of the trilogy, after they pass the torch of course so we can keep playing Halo.

When a character close to the main character dies, it usually holds a deeper impact. And can be GOOD story telling so long as they don’t make it seem cheaply thrown in there.
More than likely not Halo 4. Probably the end of 5 or 6.
She is going to have to, unless she finds a way to circumvent the normal stages of Rampancy.
Theoretically, if an AI could make it to the “end” of Rampancy, they would become stable and almost “human”. However, the in-between stages tend to be bad for everyone/everything around the AI and they tend to inadvertently try to/kill everyone around them. Many of them don’t mean to and are actually still trying to carry their core functions and help their creators, but their logic and thinking is so broken and muddled they can’t understand what they’re doing isn’t working quite right.
I thin it was in the Fall of Reach that there was a hint that Halsey played Cortana’s code structure differently than other AIs. I realize that Bungie separated the game canon from the literary, but the recent novels suggest that 343 is treating this very differently.
Knowing Halsey, although yes, Cortana is showing signs of rampancy, but we’ve seen enough to know she has made it 8 years. I’m thinking Cortana is different. At least different enough to make it through til the end of Halo 6.
Based on Glasslands, I think Halsey will even show up ingame at some point or another.
One of the lead characters always die. Changing that would be a great get-a-way from classic story telling.
I was just having that discussion with my better half but in relation to another subject, i.e. movies. The action-adventure group movies always leave with a last-man standing scenario. I thought for once, based on the movie we were watching at the time (Centurion) that one or mroe of the main characters, plus even additional minor ones would prove more realistic and possibly even more satisfying. Or what if THE main character was the one to die leaving everyone else to live?
What if John sacrifices himself at the very end to maintain Cortana’s existence?

I don’t have a problem with her dying at some point, in fact I welcome it.
But…
I’m dreading when it does happen for an entirely different reason… the community’s reaction to it. The levels of rage will be well over 9000 it’ll be unbearable reading.
The Master Chief and Cortana have been the MAIN characters for FOUR games. What makes you think they’ll ever ‘kill her off’? No, not until the series comes to an end, but I still doubt it, as it would prevent any continuation of the series, and it’s also extremely rare to something like that to happen.

It’d be kinda abrupt to do it at this point in the story if you ask me. If at any time then towards the end.
If it happens, I don’t think it will happen until the end of the reclaimer trilogy. And if they go that route it’s my opinion that Master Chief will have to be the one to do it. Just my speculation.

They should both survive and stay alive. A good end doesn’t mean they have to kill off the characters, it’s actually pretty cliché… Spartans never die anyway and they probably find ways to fix Cortana.

I don’t think she will ‘die’, but I think it would be a pretty big cop-out for John to find Halsey and presto, Cortana is fine again.
My idea is that Halsey will find some way to preserve a part of Cortana in a new A.I. and, during the process, Cortana is de-resed.
I’m very interested with how they will play out Cortana’s life. Will she die? Will her life be extended?
I honestly don’t know how The Chief would handle it.
