After watching the livestream detailing what Insiders can look forward to, it got me thinking about if bots will be playable offline when the game launches. This game along with Battlefield 2042 so far have stated the bots work off of dedicated servers. This claim has gotten me worried as someone who has an interest in bot multiplayer. It’s got me wondering do the AI have their systems run off of your hardware but have to interact with the servers to function in online multiplayer, yet are fully functional and playable offline. Or will they only be exclusively tied to the servers and not playable offline which, in my opinion, would flat out defeat the purpose of them existing?
I’d like it if we can play with the bots offline in case something happens to our internet connections or something. Also for the day this game inevitably stops being supported, we could still play against bots for fun.
I would like to have multiplayer modes where we play against bots, and that these games count as normal games, to be able to get experience and unlock the things of the battle pass. Exactly the same as in Gears 5.
(I know I repeat myself a lot, but I am very excited for this to come true.)

That would be cool, but I was asking will they be playable without an internet connection.
I imagine they would be available offline, they probably want to flight the bots against players right now though to see how they perform and gather whatever else data they have in mind with them.
I’m sure they will be playable offline on the final release, I believe they are online for the flight just to get back tons of information.
It was just the wording I heard from both BF 2042 and this game. I could be looking too deep into it but that’s why I posted this thread. Maybe someone at 343 could clear things up? I know there are some games that tie key AI systems to servers. So in those instances when the servers are not working/shut down, the bots become lobotomized. Again the whole reason I made this post. Do they exclusively run on your hardware so you can play offline, or are they tied to the server so no servers/internet means bot don’t work?
I hope there is content besides campaign offline, halo 5 didn’t even let you do customs or forge offline
I hope so. bot backfilling helps keep less active games/game modes active.
God I hope so. I posted this in the R/Halo tech preview discussion thread, but I’ll say it here as well since it’s relevant:
I’ve been playing a lot of the academy trials so far, its actually surprisingly fun! I’m definitely looking forward to the fully developed version of it. It’s a shame the bot multiplayer in this preview is online only, but I’m willing to let that slide since this is just a preview and anything can change from now till release. Still, I really hope the release will allow offline bot play. For me, the main draw of bots is you can play with them anytime, anywhere. The only thing that would stop you is a loss of power or crappy specs. That means shmucks like me can still enjoy the multiplayer experience, even if it isn’t a 100% recreation of what its like to play with actual people. If my internet was good enough for regular pvp multiplayer, I’d just play with people y’know? Don’t get me wrong, having bots is good regardless, but I still hope they allow for offline play. I realize I’m in a pretty small niche here so I imagine full offline bot support isn’t much of a priority, but I hope they at least consider it for post-launch if they don’t have it in at launch.
Bots, even if they’re stupid, help immortalize the game. When there is nobody left to play with, when the game is no longer officially supported, you’ll still have AI to play with whenever you want. When they’re tied to a server, that means when the servers inevitably get shut down eventually, there will be no way to experience the multiplayer at all outside of maybe the academy, which is better than nothing, but still. I realize it doesn’t sound like much of an issue now since Halo Infinite will not die anytime soon, but it would still be nice to have something to fall back on when the time does come.

I wonder if it will be like some games (Star Wars Battlefront 2017 comes to mind) where your system will create a server for each match if your offline and the bots spawn from there? I would think it would be offline because, like you said, online only defeats the purpose of bots considering the online only people will be playing against players 99% of the time. I guess we need an insider to answer us, but I would think if EA can get it right (I mean, its EA) then any company can.
