In the newest GI video, they talked about how it’s pretty daunting having 8 main characters. There’s Chief and the rest of Blue Team as well as Locke and Fireteam Osiris. They did say the main focus is going to be on Chief and Locke, but said they intend for the other members of the teams to not be window dress. We all know and love Fred, Kelly, and Linda, and are attached to them (but they need to be well defined for casual fans to care for them), Buck is loved by the community as well. I think Vale and Tanaka are going to be interesting to see how we come to know them (in this game as Tanaka was in Escalation and Vale in Hunters in the Dark). How well do you think they’ll be able to pull off us caring for all 8 of these characters, and not just having the spotlight on just Chief and Locke?
I have no idea and I’m concerned about this as you are. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

Hopefully the characters have good banter and dialogue between each other and not just spilling exposition and tactics.
Hope the other members of the team are explained so people who don’t keep up aren’t like “Who are these random teammates?”

I feel like they definitely will be, 343i seems very interested in lore and storytelling.

I already ran into someone on reddit today who was pissed off that there were “suddenly a bunch of Spartan-IIs when Chief was supposed to be the last Spartan.”
I suspect that reaction will be somewhat common. I’m pretty curious how they’ll introduce all these characters to fans of the game only who haven’t kept up w/ the EU.
Btw, here’s all eight characters together from the GI video.

Little baby Tanaka.
It will be interesting to see how they pull this off. I think Chief and Locke are already well perceived by now and by the time Halo 5 actually released those two are covered. Buck has history in ODST so he is covered. Hopefully we have a lengthy campaign plenty of cut scenes that include the other 5 that gives them plenty of dialogue and interactions during actually missions.

I would have thought it common knowledge, without needing to really dig up info - Chief not being the last of his kind has been sort of known for a while. First Strike was originally released back in what, 2003? I guess if someone’s only ever played Halo 1-3 that might be the case.
It’s good seeing the characters all lined up in one image - Blue Team’s armour shares a lot of base similarities (chest plating, torso armor and undersuit etc.) with some personalised helmets and smaller parts, while Fireteam Osiris all have their own fully unique variants.

Yeah and you can’t keep babying the lowest common denominator by dumbing down the story. Most off the characters from Halo 2 where never seen before.
