Will aiming mechanics ever improve?

It’s not a matter of aim assist it’s just the ratio of sensitivity and acceleration and the actual (dpi but for consoles) that’s my issue. I find it hard to really aim and lock on to targets in halo 5 but I am easily able to in games such as Rainbow Six siege which has no aim assist at all.

I have tried every combo of setting and found that anything I do it will always be hard to aim for me. I am skilled in any FPS with or without Aim assist. I have barely played Halo 5 with only around 20 hours in. I know skill comes with time but I find it hard to believe that it’s me when I can pick up any shooter on console or pc and perform highly.

I really want to play Halo 5 but I can’t play it when I have such a hard time with it. Halo 4 didn’t have it as bad, but it had aim assist.

I know I might sound demanding but I just really want to enjoy and play halo.

Have a good day.

Note: I have only ever had the original Xbox one controller if that is an issue.

Halo 4: Low Bullet Magnetism and High Aim Assist
Halo 5: High Bullet Magnetism and Low Aim Assist
This might be the issue that you are experiencing. Also the bullet Magnetism drops when a persons shields are down.

Without aim assist I’m sure you’d struggle significantly more in halo 5. In other games where players die really fast, mobility during 1v1 shootouts exist and there’s no such thing as snail trigger - where your movement immediately slows down to a crawl and a strafe is non existent, reticle bloom during hip firing, when moving, when jumping, etc.

Basically in a lot of othet fps games, you’re either starting a shootout with a player who you get the jump on who dies before he can turn around and fight back, or basically a stationary target because strafing is so nerfed by how slow you move when you ADS and players are discourages to hip fire from the extreme loss of accuracy due to reticle bloom by the sheer movement of the player. (Reticle blooms when the crosshairs widen up, you may know this but just incase someone else doesn’t)

So yea there’s a learning curve to halo, and in halo 5 it does feel different than previous halos. There’s players who average 60% accuracy though. So you can’t really blame it all on the game of course when there’s players playing like that.

There definitely exists times where aim assist affects your shot. So basically you have to find how much effort you have to put in your right thumbstick to line your shot up. A lot of your aim comes from the left stick as you’re strafing as well while making small adjustments in the right stick. If you peg the stick you’d also change things like the dead zones. Which is what I had to do because aim acceleration would begin to fast.

I’m no champ player, don’t know callouts like the back of my hand, but for the most part I think my shots pretty good in this game . Just keep at it. Go into custom browser and look for octagon AHP lobbies. Sometimes you find others trying to practice too.

That is because H5 has a pretty high learning curve to get real good at it. It’s takes quite awhile to get your settings just right.

Heavy aim doesn’t help either

Halo needs to go back to the way it was in halo 5 launch. strong auto aim mechanics to help with epic movements and SUCCESSFUL epic plays. high and low skilled players could enjoy seeing their intentions come to fruition with out needing hyperbolic focus on their aim. with the auto aim being so much less sticky these days the problem becomes, that you try to do something epic like jump thru the air snipe and then land on a tank or something. you’re now 90% less likely to combine the action of flying thru the air and clutch sniping your target. so you’re also 90% less likely to even try. and now the game is dry boring and slow. nothing like what the true vision of halo should look like. this all started because high level players complaining that low level players could beat them with the assualt rifle. to which i reply. if you can’t do better than your opponent using the same tools are you even better? but thats too much ego denial for the general populous to bear. so they blamed it on the games mechanics. “if only my right joystick skills was all I needed to carry me to the V” they said. and 343 pandered. and now the game is -Yoink-, designed only to satisfy the 1%. alienating the mass publics experience is not how you’re gonna grow your esport

People have been having issues with the aiming since the game released. I think the heavy aim patch they did is going to be the last time 343 deals with aiming problems.

I find controllers are an issue as well. After about a month the ammount of fine movement is gone and I start needing to lower my sensitivity.

See now this is weird to me. I can barely aim in any other FPS, no exaggeration. But in every Halo including H5, I seem to be able to aim just fine.

Something must be wrong with me.

Gregoryw3 I noticed your game time so far is spread over several months. In order to develop your aim and find a sensitivity that suits you I think you would need to play more consistently. If you take time off you tend to lose some of the experience and muscle memory you developed; especially if you keep changing the sensitivity.

I have a few suggestions that might be useful to you:

  • If you haven’t found a comfortable button layout yet you can test them out in campaign. - To get an ide of your sensitivity I would suggest that you start up a custom game solo. Play around until you find something smooth and comfortable. Look around,up,down, left, right, ect. - When you find something that feels close play roughly ten game of social or firefight to develop some muscle memory. Then make adjustments as needed and play some more games and adjust if necessary.

Other than the first month after launch…

I’ve never noticed aim issues.

Until they “fix” something , and you have to go re adjust your settings.

Op there are many things that effect the aiming in this game. If for some reason you feel its not you then here are a few things that can cause some very weird aiming issues.

  1. Always make sure you do a hard reset start to your xbox and see if that helps.
  2. Another thing that can help is having H5 installed by itself on an external Hard Drive.
  3. Also make sure you have the proper ports opened for this game. This is a must even if your NAT says Open. What a lot of players don’t understand is most ISP filter ports or block them. And neither is ideal at all for gaming. Specially a shooter type game. This one here is really the most important imo.

Good luck!

It’s literally practice and skill. I’m assuming the fps games you have all have super fast kill times relatively with a few bullets. I also assume when you play h5 you land your first few shots. So with that said it’s just your follow up shots that would need to improve because halo isn’t a game where the first shot dictates the winner. It’s if you can hit your follow up shots with in consideration people like to strafe to dodge your shots
