With the Halo Infinite announcement trailer, we saw that 343 is going back to the classic art style. This seems to indicate that they are really trying to make a game that the majority of the fanbase really likes, which is amazing. I think that Halo Infinite will be a soft reboot of the series, serving as a new beginning of the franchise. In terms of narrative, I’m expecting 343 to play it quite safe. Do you think that 343 is gonna play it safe story-wise this time around?
Yes, I really do think that 343 Industries will play it safe with this game. I think the story will be easy to follow for newcomers to the series but will contain just enough hints for the lore fans like myself to keep us happy. I am not expecting a story on the level of Halo 2 or Halo 3: ODST due to the fact that the Created story itself is quite flawed. What I am having trouble with is how the story will be past Infinite. The story looks to be wrapping itself up, from my perspective, at least. However, the current mainline Halo games are not going to be a trilogy but a Saga. I just am having trouble coming up with new enemies to threaten the galaxy unless it is the Flood/Precursors.

While I hope they do actually go back to classic, we all need to continuously remember that it was a tech demo. Nothing should be taken at face value yet. The same goes with the story: we have no evidence one way or the other about their intentions.
Whether they play it safe or not isn’t as important as playing it right. This is their last straw imo.

I wonder if this game is gonna be a conclusion to the Relclaimer Saga, and beginning of a new storyline.

My thoughts exactly. After the advertisement of halo 5 this could easily just be to get attention while reality is that they are not going classic at all.
Safe as in simpler, more focused than H5, yes.

if HW2 was any indication of the “simpler” story approach that they’re taking with Infinite, the won’t be as deep as Halo 2, but the epic set pieces and action will likely be not in short supply.
i’d like them to find a balance and actually have a conclusion for a change.

With the direction the story has taken who knows what will happen and if it would be considered safe
To be honest, Yes I think the story will be very safe due to 343i saying they will be doing simple stories for future halo games (and books/games will be in there own stream lanes). So I don’t expect anything as in depth like H4 story again in halo games.
Also I expact small or major retcons with Infinite to justify the artstyle change.

I hope for the entire story playing with SOLO Masterchief 117
Halo will always be #1

I’d hate it if we never heard from the Didact again. Yes, Cortana is the current villain, but it was the Didact who initially resurrected the Promtheans, the Didact who composed them, the Didact who opposed the passing of the Mantle on to mankind, and the Didact who originally wanted to govern the galaxy by force. Cortana is only continuing his ideals. From a narrative perspective, it would be most satisfying if the Reclaimer Saga came full circle. And yes, at some point within the current story I think we need to see the Flood versus the Prometheans. It would be amazing to see how the Prometheans are so much more adept at combatting the parasite over the Sentinels and other species as well as why they still inevitably failed to stop them the first time round.

I think they are sticking to classic. I am almost 100% sure of this. Chris Lee, the Studio Head, has said that they have listened loud and clear to fans’ criticisms of past Halo games. He also said that they are changing how they are making games this time around. Still, it could just be a lie. A lie I highly doubt will turn out to be truth.
What does that mean in the current context? For example, Gears 4 received a lot of praise for not screwing with the formula and effectively “playing it safe” (although it had MTX coming out the you-know-what [not unlike Halo 5]), but when it comes to Halo, we’re so far gone at this point that there’s no way to sensibly return to the way things should be in one game. Honestly, “playing it safe” for 343 is so out of the ballpark that they may as well just use Infinite to wrap up the contrived “Created” story arc so we can get some closure on the mess and move on. Everybody will hate it, but at least it’s a guarantee… which in a sense would be playing it safe.
Play it safe?
I hope not, I want them to go all out on this game.
