Will 343 acknowledge the graphics controversy?

Based on the split reaction alone, I don’t think it’s justifiable to say that this game is in a good graphical state. None of us want to hate on Halo for no reason. I can’t remember a single time someone complained about Halo 4 or Halo 5’s graphics (not art style). If something is truly visually stunning like The Last of Us Part II, people will find other things to criticize but not the visuals. Do you think 343 will acknowledge that this is an earlier build or that fixes are coming in the future?

KEKW

There is already about 3 other separate forum threads stating that this was an earlier build from Jan/Feb. So it’s 5 month old footage.

Strong opinions about creative decisions don’t count as hating for no reason. If you’re on Halowaypoint’s forums you definitely want Halo to be good.

They need to say something…I mean, it’s not like it’s just a small minority complaining about the graphics. It’s a hell of a lot of people.

All of it is speculation, no official word yet. IGN asked directly and received a non response.

Gameplay is and should be always more important than Graphics, anyone that gets hung up on graphics being a deciding factor is part of the problem with video games today. You can have the most polished turd in the world but at the end of the day, it’s still just a polished turd. The classics of yesteryear in the pixelated eras of gaming were not classics because of graphics, it was all because of the gameplay in each game.

People are allowed to have issues with the graphics. No one is saying anything bad about gameplay, it looks fun. But for a next gen, flagship launch title, people are allowed to be disappointed and to voice their opinion. Which in return, hopefully, they fix it up before launch, or even delay it.

They need to officially address it. It’s that bad, and creating an enormous amount of bad press.

While there isn’t much evidence to the build being a demo from that far back, there is a thread that links to an article expressing what we saw today was most likely a pre-release version of the game. I’d put my money on what ooblah’s saying.

To be frank, I’d be a little bit more concerned about the current place of the game as a whole because of their comment of Halo Infinite still being very much in development, but that said that could just be me. I liked what I saw today at least, and to hear there’s still more work to be done but what we saw was likely an earlier build leaves me at ease moreso concerned.

It’s clearly bothering people to the point where it detracts from other elements of the game. I just want them to acknowledge it and say improvements are coming so that people can move past this conversation.

Well I haven’t seen an ugly Halo Game released yet, why should I start panicking now. Demo’s are always less superior to the final build. So let’s say it isn’t up to snuff at release, they can always fix it later. My main focus is the gameplay, not how pretty it’ll look… that’s the icing on the top. I don’t know your standards of what looks nice, but I haven’t been disappointed at release yet in terms of looks :man_shrugging:t5:

The Warthog sounds horrible. It reminds me of some riced-out modded Subaru at a car show. It needs to sound beefy, powerful, aggressive, like it means business fighting the Banished.

And I’m just saying games started as just a few pixels and now we are here and being distracted by graphics is just silly, but I suppose you would have had to live through the days of just a few pixels on a screen all the way up until now to fully appreciate things for what they are and what they have become. I thought the game looked graphically amazing, while understanding it was a demo and may not accurately reflect the final product. I also feel half of the people complaining only watched the live stream that was locked to 1080p with bandwidth issues and compression artifacts, never bothering to watch the 4k version after the live stream ended which is in much better quality since it doesn’t deal with the issues of a live stream.

I don’t care if the graphics aren’t uber duber. If the graphics have to take a hit so this game can run 4 player split screen, I am all for it.

If the demo is as old as people are saying I’m sure we will be seeing an acknowledgement through a fancy-pants new trailer showing off the looks of the game when they do reach a better looking point. If it hasn’t improved since whenever the demo was made then IMO a lack of acknowledgement says enough.

Aaron Greenburg touched on it in an interview earlier today with Alanah Pearce:

Check 16:30 for the exact bit on this. Obviously Greenburg isn’t part of 343i but he does have some insight here in terms of having seen week-over-week improvement on builds, etc.

He’s also obviously biased, but so would be anyone from 343i addressing the issue.

Bottom line, it looks better today than it did in the stream for basic quality, and it’ll look better when it launches than today. How much is the question.

i mean the only thing they need to fix is nothing really, they just need to have better lighting, update a few of the textures and make them more scuffed up and grimy which in the newest minute long trailer the weapons actually have a more scratched look meaning it was played in a later build and they improved on the textures, then just maybe make the gun sounds more meaty like reaches sounds but thats mainly a nit pick, other than that the game looks fine to me and besides its a demo version probably recorded months ago so the final game will obviously have improvements made to it. remember how rubbery and pale the spartans looked in the halo 5 beta? they fixed it in the final version so obviously if theres large amounts of backlash towards the graphics there most likely going to fix i think 343 has learned their mistakes from the past halo games.

What is the source that people are getting this from? I’ve seen someone say it was an “older build” but nothing about 6 months old. Seems like people are in a state of denial about this game.

343 most likely:
