Dabbling in making game levels as a teen, I don’t really understand why there’s so few maps? The ones we have obviously have a lot of polish (and some of them look like they belong in other games like CS) but do we really need that?
There are 8 small maps and
A- None of them set a very high bar for quality. They’re pretty, and someone obviously thought about the platforming elements, but… eh.
B- I’m tired of them. Because small games like this are quite short, I feel like I’m seeing them over and over again.
So with that in mind:
1a- Forerunner architecture has always been a license for minimalist level design and doing whatever you want.
1b- realistically, if you’re going to give the MP some stupid story justification as a spartan training thing, spartans should be training for boarding different models of enemy spacecraft. Lots of opportunities to use repeating tilesets. You can really get around the issues of repeating tiles by clever uses of lighting, pallets, or good use of miscellaneous props.
2-There are so many assets in the game right now that can simply be reused for multiplayer or otherwise taken from one map to another.
