All the time you waste destroying grunts could be spent learning the ins and outs of multiplayer. The replayability for any campaign isn’t that long, while multiplayer lasts forever.
Wasting your time playing through the campaign will put you at a disadvantage in multiplayer, which is the only reflection of your skill. Nobody cares if you beat the game SLASO, it only reflects your ability to abuse AI. Adapting in-game to other human beings’ decisions is infinitely more skill-full than abusing any game’s AI.
Don’t waste your time on the part of the game that will die out in 6 months, and instead jump right into matchmaking, preferably the hardcore playlist equivalent. I did this with Reach and was instantly recognized for my ability because I was able to place single digit Onyx in season 1.
I feel bad for all of the players who don’t take my advice and will be put at a disadvantage in multiplayer. Campaign only diminishes your ability to adapt to dynamic variables, as that’s something you’ll never have to do in campaign.

But I have to disagree, I played Halo 3 Campaign A LOT! And I mean A LOT. And I wasn’t bad at that game. Reach’s campaign isn’t as fun, so not as much time spent there.

I do really want to play through the story at least once, though. I’ll probably just do a quick run on Normal, and take a break halfway through for multiplayer. Depends if my team is on or not.

I don’t really understand the point of this thread. I thought the whole reason to Halo was the campaign. Halo 4 has it even better because they added spartan ops which is a sort of continuation I believe…
I don’t think that opinion is very popular around here. I personally will be “wasting my time” first on campaign because that’s really important to me.

Yeah, me and Costco used to get into debates over at Bungie.net, I always mistakenly called him Costco, so that’s my nickname for him.

If Halo didn’t have multiplayer it would have fallen off faster than bioshock. Campaign is comparatively irrelevant to the long term success of the halo franchise.
nah where BUNGIE made the Campaign interesting with the books and further development of the story that 343 is taking Campaign will be much more interesting this time around.
Not everyone plays the game just for Mp costa lol its not like its actual sport or really going to get you somewhere in life…lol

Nobody plays multi-thousand dollar tournaments for campaign.
Just saying…
