I got a 60 minute Ban the other day. No big deal. But, I read the Ban FAQ for any details and this quote stuck out to me…
> I didn’t do anything wrong, and you can’t prove it. Will you please reverse my ban?
>
> Our automated system builds up a digital case of wrongdoing before any ban is enacted. If you accidentally disconnect a time or two, you won’t get banned. Instead the system looks for patterns that can’t happen accidentally. If the banhammer detects enough wrongdoing, you were doing wrong.
This is a very bad response from 343i in my opinion. I do quit a lot more than I should I do admit. But, Halo 4 has been the only Halo of the series where I actually had to in order to simply enjoy the game. There are reasons for it and it most certainly is not me “doing wrong” and the blame can be passed onto 343i.
1: Respawning in the line of fire and usually where you JUST died is beyond aggravating, especially in SWAT which is my playlist of choice. It will happen multiple times and there is almost nothing you can do about. Die once, die 2-3 more times. This feature essentially handicaps the scoreboard and falsifies your stats. Which in turn probably creates a lot of score boosting.
The killcam. Again, i play a lot of SWAT. I don’t mind the killcam in the other playlists as much. But, it should not be in SWAT or Snipers. It defeats the entire purpose of a no radar or snipers playlist.
Lag is a huge issue and once headshots stop registering or somebody kills you by shooting you through a wall the game becomes almost unplayable. Dedicated servers are an absolute must and players really shouldn’t have to wait until Halo 5 for it to be fixed. The lag is another reason why I don’t play the other playlists as much either. If you can empty an entire clip of headshots on someone in at SWAT match and not kill them, it will only get worse in a mode with shields.
Habitual and/or rage quitting is one thing. Trying to enjoy the game is another. If they could fix these problems, pinpointing who is just quitting for the sake of quitting would be a lot more effective. Instead, i see a lot more players that appear to be using a 2nd account to play Halo 4 than ive ever seen in Halo 3 or REACH. I assume this is due to the ban hammer.
Again, that’s my opinion. I really don’t think it’s all that fair to have a punishment system for a game that has relatively simple issues to fix to make the game more enjoyable and/or fair. Nobody wants to suffer through a lag filled game.
I hope i’m not just crazy and somebody out there feels my pain. Sorry for the long read. lol

Team killing, griefing, quitting, and modding are all punishable because they create environments that aren’t fun or fair to others. You are free to have fun however you wish, but you cross the line when your fun gets in the way of others having fun (e.g. creating imbalanced teams).
I empathize with and understand the feeling that you have to quit in order to have fun because I often feel the same way, especially due to the bad skill matches and predominance of Infinity. However, to avoid creating non-fun experiences for others, I simply don’t play at all.

Absolutely this. We all have to deal with the same issues. Either don’t play, or play and deal. Stop blaming on other gamers and developers if you do play. Most of the time, in my experience, it’s on you.

i343 can’t make a system that reads your mind and sees if you are quitting because you do not enjoy the game and are calm as opposed to qutting and being angry and not enjoying the game.
Quitting is quitting no matter your mood or prefered gametype/map.
I have to agree with the majority so far. The BanHammer looks for patterns and acts accordingly. While the reasons you listed are arguably valid, the fact is that if you encounter one or more of these things game after game, your best move is to stop playing. If you experience, say, quit inducing lag in three matches in a row, it’s reasonable to assume that you will encounter it in the next match, so you should consider taking a break.
Quit banning is not so much as a punishment as it is an attempt to maintain a decent playing experience for players that choose not to implement the quit option. It’s not a perfect solution, but neither is just allowing people to quit game after game.

Don’t be fooled. 343, microsoft, they couldn’t care less. They got your money and their gone. Don’t hold your breath, you’re never getting an answer.
