I see people talking about how they hate that players die to fast to primary weapons, but why?
You’re telling me that you’d rather sit around strafing for 10-12 seconds just to kill ONE person. if that was the case, I highly doubt people will want to play the game.
Can you all please get rid of your black and white view of the whole world!? It’s not as simple as “fast or slow” killtimes, it’s not as simple as “1.5 seconds to kill or 10 seconds to kill”. Really, you really think there’s no such thing as the grey area? You really think there’s no such thing as the middle ground?
and while we’re at it, do you really think that Halo, a game with so many options and tweaks that any PC game would need several mods to achieve, should be limited to just one set of rules? If you really don’t like the killtimes then increase weapon damage by 200%.
Not 10 seconds, i like more 4 but in Halo 4 the spartans die at 2 seconds already :(, sorry for the bad english.
I only saw one thread, and while your right, quick kill times are good (as long as they aren’t split second), we don’t need a counter-thread to his.
It seems faster than Reach, but a little bit faster even than Halo 3. Makes me a bit nervous, but I’ve really only seen horribad players demoed, lol, so I don’t really know how fast I would die.
EDIT: Slothful Koala below me hit it on the head. A 2 to 3 second kill time if you never miss is okay with me. Less than two makes me a bit nervous that getting the jump will trump being a better player more than it ought to.
Personally I do enjoy slower kill times. I feel it adds more thought. Gives me time to strategize and think WHILE I’m engaged in a fight.
To me the quickening and increasing of the pacing of games speaks volumes on the lack of attention span society has anymore. “You want me to do something for more than 1 second? That sounds boring.”

I think the kill times are fine. I’m asking why people want LONGER kill times.
Kill times in the 1.0 to 1.2 second range allow individual player skill to compete with coordinated team skill.
The reason why this is important is because individual players need to feel like they can change the outcome of a game by playing very well, regardless of their team’s overall effectiveness.
Halo is a team game but without the dynamic of allowing one star player to shine for a short time it becomes boring because the ultimate strategy is always team shot.
The argument is not as simple as “fast kill times vs slow kill times”. The smallest changes can have huge impacts against highly skilled teams.

Didja even read what we wrote?

This^
I don’t want short encounters. Go up to a guy, strafe for 2 seconds and -Boom- you’re dead. That’s no fun. However, if you’re having this continuous battle, taking shots, close to dead, pulling allll kiiiiindzzz of manueverzzz, it’s more satisfying when you get the kill. For me it’s like “That was long, hard fought battle, and in the end I came out the victor” is better than, “Oh look a pers- They’re/ I’m dead…”

Not really. It looked like it was completely off base. Sue me.
Well, most shooters these days have pretty fast kill-times. It’s usually the first person who sees the other gets the kill. I guess some people enjoy Halo more, because they can sort of get away from that.
I really enjoy fast kill-times though. The AR is actually useful and fast kill-times encourage stealthy gameplay, which is how I like to play a game.

Agree
+ 900000
I would prefer slower kill times because Halo isn’t COD.

Because when you have short killtimes you run the risk of eliminating skill. If the killtimes are so short you can start to think not, “Oh, he outplayed me just then” and can start thinking, “Oh, he saw me first”. This is the biggest reason why I stopped caring for Call of Duty.
If someone saw you first how smart could you possibly be playing?

So, lemme get this right, you asked a question, then refused to read the answers, and are now dissing us for answers you don’t even know the content of.
Dude… really?
EDIT: The gravity of that just sunk in. I cannot stop laughing…

Exactly, but Halo 2 wasn’t a game of “who saw who first”. Halo 2-esque killtimes are fine, as long as any player is given the opportunity to respond and beat their attacker by being better, in terms of maneuvering and aim.
Halo CE had the fastest kill times with the 3 shot pistol and you could still out skill your opponent most of the time. The kill times are fine from what I have seen.
how did you even come up with slower kill times? haha
