Why would firerfighters like Spartan Ops?

I’ve seen comments from people at 343 saying that if you like Firefight you’ll love Spartan Ops, but no one has explained why someone who likes Firefight like Spartan Ops. Obviously the real question is why should people who like Firefight believe they aren’t going to miss it? Any thoughts?

Because the original idea for FF was to work as a team to complete an onslaught of enemy forces. But withh FF it turened into a slaughtering competition. They want Spartan Ops to be about team work

Good point.

Because unlike Reach’s Arcade FF, it has the potential to be challenging? That’s the first thought that crossed my mind.

Plus it’s not just a glorified horde mode with Covenant; it’s story driven and it may even have objectives beyond wave survival. It’s an evolution of FF sort to speak.

If that doesn’t convince, then i don’t know what to say.

I know what want, that’s for sure.

That is my hope. FF Arcade kinda ruined me on FF in general.

Not really. There may be levels where as you have to face off against waves of enemies and protect something = Boom, you got a firefight right there.

I have very high hopes for Spartan Ops. However, my number one concern is that it will not be very high in replay value. I constantly play Firefight because the experience can be different with each playthrough. I hope Spartan Ops has replayability alongside missions that vary in nature.

For example, I want one mission to be a chaotic and intense battle and another to be a vehicle-oriented mission with a vehicle that has never been seen before.

A lot is riding on Spartan Ops when it comes to Halo 4 for me. The potential for these Ops are virtually unlimited and can be the best thing Halo has seen. The question is: Will they live up that potential?

I am also very anxious to see if it will live up to my expectations. I LOVE the concept. I just hope they can pull it off.

Sounds like the ongoing CODification of Halo, I’m guessing it’ll be a collection of set-piece missions?

That is my guess too. I am eager to see how they integrate the videos with the missions though.

Before Reach was released that’s how I thought about co-op campaign, but it’s just as much of a slaughtering competition as Firefight, except more annoying because there are dead times where you have to move to another location or do something else that facilitates the story aspect.

Firefight Limited is by far the best game option I’ve seen in Reach to get people to work as a team, particularly if your team is composed of people you know and you all have mikes. Campaign co-op is just a run-and-gun free-for-all, and that’s what I’m afraid Spartan Ops will be.

Four-person Arcadefight is annoying as the enemies are just overwhelmed. Two-person Arcadefight is a lot more fun, especially if you’re trying to stay alive. Firefight Limited was by far my favorite, though. I know some people who basically stopped playing Reach when 343 killed the Limited playlist.

Well then praise be to the may update…

Cause they have nothing better to do when they’re not putting out fires…

yepp, limited is back, im playing right now lol 2 games and got the 26000 credit jack pot =p gotta say not having unlimited health and working as a team to take down a squad of brutes with combustion rifles felt good

This is what I’m most curious about too. I’d like a random experience each time I play SO. If it is like FireFight but with a story element at the start I’d be very happy. But if it’s a linear coop campaign then I will be disappointed. That’s what the actual campaign is suppose to be. I want a quick pick-up-and-play experience where I don’t have to worry about getting beat down by awesome MP people or traveling down a linear story sequence in the campaign.

BTW, I’m not knocking the campaign at all…it will be awesome!

Eh, I have mixed feelings here. I really enjoyed Firefight in ODST because it was a survival-style mode rather than a point-based mode like it is in Reach’s Firefight Arcade. I will say that I do have a lot of fun in Arcade, but it’s not the same. I would also like to add the fact that I love to do Score Attack because of…

GRUNTPOCALYPSE

Need I say more?

Yes?

SKIRMIGEDDON

Obviously Spartan ops is going to be a lot like Special Ops in COD (which isn’t a bad thing) but with greater potential because it will have 4 player co-op, vehicles, larger variety of enemies to fight, and a much more interesting universe. I have high hopes for Spartan ops because there are so many missions that 343 can throw at us and make us go all over the place. We could be boarding covenant ships, killing enemy leaders, going to another halo ring, large air combat battles, large ground vehicle battles and whatever else 343 has to throw at us.

My gripes with Firefight:

-either too much enemy concentration or too little at a time. It’s no fun fighting an invincible army nor is it fun fighting 5-6 Elites at a time (in CE, this would be challenging and fun. In Reach, without their cheap advantages, they aren’t very impressive)

-I’m disappointed that Installation 04 didn’t accommodate for the ODSTs. The custom skull settings for waves are shared

-feels very limited. 10 second countdowns are nearly everywhere, even in spots that would grant no advantage to the player. The spots that are available leave you wide open for enemy fire

-it’s nearly impossible to be stealthy without being engaged. The AI movement is determined by the player but not necessarily in a good way

-hazards. I don’t bother turning them on when playing Installation 04 anymore. Infinitely respawning Banshees can interrupt sprees or disrupt my attempts at exploiting (I found a good position for getting sword Elites to suicide). The ODSTs aren’t worth it since they don’t do anything other than slowly moving down the base. Also, the warthog itself is a hazard. You can’t do much with it. Positioning it is really hard, even harder than in H2 and H3

-no ‘sword Elites only’, no ‘Ultra Elites only’, no Zealots in the settings

The designers probably think Firefight fans will enjoy Spartan Ops because it contains some of the same elements of gameplay. As far as we can speculate, that is. Nobody really knows what Spartan Ops will be like.
