Could be as simple as having them for customs at least. Let players make their own modes and if they’re popular, move them into a community playlist event occasionally.
Dual wielding, add a slider for damage in custom settings. Could have both weapons do full damage, or half when dual wielded, leave it up to the players. Of course on that end you’d also want a toggle for the ability to dual wield at all available in custom games.
Wouldn’t need to be in general matchmaking at all. Customs is where Halo has the most promise anyway.
343 couldn’t even get co-op in the game…
Dual wielding and elites are very large design objectives that only a small portion of the fan base are passionate about.
This has never been the case, is verifiably false, and there’s YouTube video evidence of it that I can’t link because Waypoint doesn’t allow links, but the video is called “Elite vs Spartan Hitboxes - Team SWAT Myth”. The hitboxes between Spartans and Elites in Halo 3 have always been the same, the issue is headshotting from behind when moving, which is equally difficult between Spartans and Elites. This is because hitboxes move, and a part of the rear shoulder moves up to cover part of the head. I have just as much difficulty headshotting a Spartan in SWAT as I do an Elite in SWAT from behind. Even then, a dot appears in the middle of your crosshair to indicate if your precision weapon is aligned to the head.
You can go back and verify this yourself in Custom Games using Forge.
The only core differences between Elites and Spartans in 3 are side profiles. At no-lunge melee distance, the Elite’s neck doesn’t have a hitbox due to a bug (which is fixable), but is not noticed in gameplay because only precision weapons like the Sniper won’t be able to hit it (and aim assist/bullet magnetism solves that problem at range). Elite’s heads also jut out forward, but a Spartan stands tall in Halo 3, meaning that there is no real difference - it’s just that one head moves forward and the other moves up at similar heights. Bullet Magnetism and Aim Assist help with both issues.
This is the same company that created the Ogre Elites, and then went and said “Oh, subspecies never before mentioned in canon.” Canon is a paltry excuse for denying requested player features.
There’s absolutely no reason Elites can’t come back other than for Ranked players getting their knickers in a twist about it, and if they’re that upset about it, ban them from Tournaments or Ranked. Or tell them to pound sand and git gud.
To be fair, Bungie got rid of duel wielding when they released Halo Reach. It also wasn’t present in Halo 3: ODST, but we were playing as ODSTs, not Spartans, so I would argue that there was a good lore reason why we couldn’t duel wield in ODST. As for Reach, I don’t know, maybe it was for balancing.
Dual-wielding was removed for balance purposes. It basically resulted in a situation where each weapon that could be paired needed to be weak individually in order to not become a monster when paired. This meant that a large number of weapons just weren’t good except for their unique gimmicks when unpaired (Plasma Pistol’s charge shot, Spiker’s blades).
Removing dual-wield enabled the weapons that were previously mediocre to become much stronger. The Plasma Pistol, for example, became a semi-reliable last-resort weapon in Reach compared to 3, though with limited weapon slots, there still wasn’t much of a reason to use a Plasma Pistol except for the charge shot alongside a Pistol or DMR.
My opinion is that I’d just avoid the dual wielding wrapons as they are simply worse weapons. With the way weapon spawns are set up in this game, they’d need to either add a ton more for all the dual wield weapon types -or else not have anything actually available for fual wielding-, or randomly swap some of the current weapons -that I really like- for dual wielding types like they do with kinetic vs energy shotgun. Besides that, the only dual wield I ever purposely used before was pistol/plasma pistol.
As for elites, I’d love to play them. No idea if they’ll make them playable, but I imagone they’ll make a story event for them. With the current story, they don’t make sense.
Wrong, they do not. This is evident once you load up into a SWAT match using a Dino. Their head is located lower closer to their chest, and that’s where the headshot occurs. When your head is on your center mass, it’s a massive disadvantage to something like the BR.
An Elite’s head “hangs” at about the same length as a Spartan’s head, maybe a little lower. But the actual hitboxes are identical, even down to how Spartan’s move their right “shoulder” into place behind their head so it makes a Spartan/Elite harder to hit in the head from behind.
It sounds like you’re basing this entirely off of conjecture that you wished up as opposed to actually verifiably know, just like the people claiming that Spartans and Elites have different hitboxes (they don’t, they’re the same in Halo 3)
The elites we got our answer about about month ago there are no CURRENT plans to put them in but still there is a chance they’ll return I personally want them back but I’d like the game to be fixed first then the elites as 343 has said
I have played halo since it came out back in 2001 and was e static when they became playable it added more variety to the game and not another space marine game on in my opinion
The Sangheili Neck Glitch is a collision-related glitch in Halo 3. The glitch allows bullets and grenades to pass unimpeded through part of an Elite player’s neck without dealing damage to the player. It occurs because Spartans and Elites use the same hitboxes despite their different body shapes.
They are hunched to meet the height of spartans, if their head being in their chest was a disadvantage then it would also be an advantage from behind, which it isn’t since you can shoot near the top of the back and get a headshot kill.
People actually argue its better to play an elite since due to awkwardness of trying to balance them around not being a handicap, they actually will sort of desynchronize head position from where its supposed to be and their body is misleading.
I don’t play elites in 3 but I do in 2 and Reach because Elites are a tad bit dishonest to play in 3.
It’s the same principle as shooting a Spartan from behind, to be honest. You have to aim slightly up and to the left for both when they’re moving. Your Crosshair will tell you when you’re lined up.
The short answer is that 343 can’t handle what it has now let alone dual wielding and Elites even if they wanted to. Even if they could Infinite has made it clear that 343 is decisions have nothing to do with their capability or the potential popularity of certain decisions. I would also mention that 343’s focus on Armor/Spartan abilities/equipment being very Spartan focused.
That being said I do think the balance and design concerns regarding Elites and dual wielding are pretty overblown at this point.
Halo 3 Elites were close enough with a few fixes(like the random hole in their neck) that it wouldn’t be a problem in general MM and you could just restrict ranked to Spartans only. Otherwise the Reach solution also works but it honestly requires a bigger investment in content so Elite players actually get a chance to play as Elites outside of niche modes or Invasion.
Dual Wielding as implemented by Bungie is terrible and shouldn’t return, but I think people dismiss the entire concept too quickly based on that one implementation.
Some tweaks to give dual wielding some depth and purpose in the sandbox:
1.) You can now holster both weapons while dual wielding. This means players don’t have to choose between dual wielding and objective play or power weapon control.
2.)You can use single dual wieldable weapon alongside objectives ala Flagnum. This helps give “weaker” single dualies a greater gameplay purpose while still leaving objective holders weaker than a player wielding a two handed weapon or dual wielding.
3.)You can now melee while dual wielding, giving up grenades is already a big enough downside. Now the choice is between more direct firepower(dual wielding) or indirect firepower(grenades).
4.)Single dualies have noticeably faster swaps and melee attacks than dual wielding or two hander just to give them some extra utility. This would also be a good opportunity to bring back CE quick camo for single dualies as well.
5.) You can now use the scope with certain weapons like the ODST SMG while dual wielding. This is to keep dual wielding from being nothing but close range bullet hoses or a noob combos
The “single weapon” issue is avoided simply by spawning dualies together like it was on many Halo 3 maps.
Is it an extra balancing challenge? Sure, but I think the degree of difficulty is overstated, especially by people who only look at how the mechanic was implemented in Halo 2/3.(And to be fair I used to be one of those people.)
Everywhere I look, every tweet I see; everyday a new Elite need to come back.
It’s so apparent it’s not a small part of the community. It makes up a decent size. Tbh I’d be happy if they made sure that the elite core was a BP. Totally cool with it. Put armor in premium and have the fracture event stuff just unlock one armor set for the elite. No extra cores, just armor. No fan would gripe. Hell you could even make the armor that goes into these passes and fracture community outsourced, bet they’d be awesome
I’ll admit I’ve seen this increase my self which is odd considering what 343 told us about a month ago but at the same time I’m actually glad! The interest in this subject needs to be heard and taken into consideration when infinite is fixed this games should be more like a space opera than just another space marines shooting aliens type of game the unsc and sos needs to be fighting along side each other against the banished! And the multiplayer should reflect that alliance
