I have wanted all these things back for a while also why is there no free earn able credits
Dual Wielding is mainly for streamlining weapon balance.
It’s complicated to balance weapons that are meant to be half of a whole. And it’s always resulted in dual wield weapons being underpowered, even when dual wielding them. Without dual wielding more of the sandbox has a chance to be relevant.
As for Elites, it’s most likely that 343 doesn’t want to go through the hassle of balancing them. Pretty much no solution is a good one to everybody.
If they go with the Halo 2/3 method of making them hunch over, they become too difficult to headshot from behind. If they just let them be big, like Reach, they absorb way more shots and are much easier to hit so they need to have other stats boosted to make up for it. (In Reach they were faster jumped higher, had stronger and faster regenerating shields, and their health regenerated instead of needing health packs) the result was that they were cut out of most of the game, only appearing in Invasion and “Elites only” game modes in MM.
The final solution would be to have them stand up straight, but scale them down the the height and width of a Spartan. This would be the best way to implement them in my opinion, but there are community members against it, because it breaks canon. I’ve heard replies to the idea like “I don’t want to be a mini-Elite, I want to be a real Elite, even if my size is a disadvantage.”
Playable Sangheili were a bigger target, and had an advantage from behind when it came to headshotting them since they hunch over and their body now completely covers their head hitbox.
Not to mention it adds a new level of complication when it comes to put out cosmetics no doubt, as the Sangheili’s body types are significantly different from that of a human.
Duel wielding over complicates weapon balance. The only thing I could see them making it work is by heavily restricting duel wielding. Say you can only duel wield similar weapons, and maybe make it that accuracy takes a hit as well.
They probably took it out to make it more similar and easier to balance out though.
I honestly would rather them just left out, at least of multiplayer instead of using this compromise.
Playing as an Elite had a bit of an advantage, even when you play as a Elite in SWAT
Dual weilding had imbalance isues. Elites give you a weird hitbox and make you easier to snipe.
The issue is that there’s an entire community of players who left Halo when Elites did, for several years since the release of Halo 4 they could usually be found on Halo 3. Some even still play MCC. But that community has been dying slowly, as the more time goes by without a new game to be Elites in, the more members of the community get fed up with waiting and leave. It’s the same community that started that massive playable Elites thread that was active in the Halo 4, and later Halo 5 forum since early 2012.
There were points when the community resurfaced, like around the time Installation 01, the fan Halo game that was being developed until it was cancelled last year, announced playable Elites for their game in a cinematic trailer. But with its cancellation, and continuing news that 343 has no current plans to add them to Infinite, that entire community of players that could be bolstering Infinite’s player count right now in large part just gave up for good.
A lot of good friends that hardly play Halo let alone sign into Xbox Live anymore, just because they were left out by Halo Infinite.
Any compromise to get them in the game, and in as many playlists as possible, is worth it to this community.
Being part of that small community of “preferred specie” i 100% agree
The most logical solution that work for everyone would be to add them back with their actual pose and size (no hunching). Yes the players that chose the elite would be in a slight disadvantage but it does not necessarily mean they will loose all the fire exchanges they will get into, and with the low ttk in the game it may even not be much of a problem as it was back in H3/Reach. In the end adding elites will bring back a part of the community that left, add diversity to the game and if someone don’t like it they are free to just use a spartan instead of an elite.
Disagreed.
They dont need to, but bungie felt that was the way to go, sucks because on MCC the game doesnt care about you wanting to be an elite unless you’re in customs now.
And there’s no issue with this, let the people have what they want, elites will be banned from ranked anyways since people love to cry about them.
If they add playable elites they’d also have to add elite unlocks and store items of some sort.
I can’t imagine what the shop rotation would be like, but I have a decent idea of the threads that would be started.
Just allows for them to profit off their work at 343 more.
They’d probably be selling armors we’ve not seen before, since they’ve clearly showed some artistic abilities with the elites recently.
If anyone has an issue with armors being sold we haven’t seen before that’s kinda on them, since elites would likely be a free core with the existing armor being in a pass, with paid and free pieces.
I can’t imagine theyd be selling Field Marshal or General in the store for 10-20 USD without a unique spin, people raised hell about reach armors being sold in store.
If they haven’t released the rest of the Reach armor in store to be scummy and get money easy, then they won’t do it to elites, especially when they just (in this hypothetical argument) got the elite playerbase back. They’d be too afraid of the backlash and all the work being for nothing.
I’m certainly not against playable elites.
I’m more thinking about how there would need to be elite pieces in the battle pass or people will complain., and people will complain if there are pieces in the battle pass.
I’m just guessing the cons out weigh the pros for 343.
Naw, BPs are the best, better than events because less fomo, better than store because cheaper, more bang for your buck and less fomo.
People bought Mk V [B] and Mk V [B] is ugly. Don’t think they’ll have an issue with an elite themed pass.
I would love to play as Elite. Sadly this omission is another design oversight that puts me off Infinite. I can’t see them being added, if they already said they won’t add more Spartan body types.
Lack of earnable credits is an odd one. I think it’s because it was their first F2P and thought they were already being generous giving the game away, and neglected to realise earnable credits was one way to retain players.
Lack of playable elites (as well as dual wielding) is not a design oversight, it was deliberate. They are very much aware it’s a beloved feature in the classic games so they’ll keep it “in reserve” for a future season major update, when they’ll start noticing the game is loosing too many players. So playable elites are pretty much a given.
Same goes for earnable credits, don’t believe for a second they didn’t know what they were doing. They wanted to cash in on the og reach crowd, planning to resell the BP in S2 this time with earnable credits, thus doubling the profits from people who like to buy battle passes but won’t spend a dime on shop items in video games.
Keeping them for too long might not be a smart move
Season 2 barely released 3 weeks ago and the population count on Steam is less than 8k and on the Microsoft store the game is barely trending in the top 10. The game will probably be back at 1-2k players / top 20-30 games in less than 2 months, so if they are waiting a good moment it should be now before everyone loose interest for good.
The reason why Halo Infinite probably did not have them and we still dont have any ETA yet is because they never intended to add them to begin with. The game was built around the esports and the shop instead of casuals and long-time fans, their addition would not beneficiate the competitive scene in any way.
The more simple answer is… because fun is not a high priority.
What in the game would you be willing to sacrifice for playable Sangheili or balanced duel wielding?
I’m fine with not having dual wielding put back in, especially with how weapon balancing/tweaking has already been.
Playable Elites, as said, have their weird hitboxes but - at least in my experience - it wasn’t like there were many people playing Elites back when it was available. Even in big team games back in Halo 2, 3, and Reach there’d only be like…one or two Elites for the whole game. If that. People just wanted to be Spartans.
I wouldn’t mind seeing playable Elites again, but there is a question of whether its really worth the effort and then there’s probably gonna be questions of whether or not to be allowed in competitive play.
An event?
20 characters.
Dual Wielding : Hard to balance
Playable Elites : Try playing a Dino in H3 and tell me if you enjoy getting dabbed on by Spartans because your head is on your chest which gives center mass for headshots.
But if 343 can:
- Actually provide meaningful balance to Dual Wielding (eg. Dual Wield but no weapon swap)
- Make an Alien Race only mode so Elites won’t be disadvantaged
Then we could consider these gameplay options.
