Why were Grifball and Living Dead updated?

It doesn’t really make sense to me to update Grifball, which is basically a flat square with a bunch of guys with hammers running towards a bomb which makes them faster.

Neither does updating Living Dead, which, quite honestly, isn’t really in need of an update with the “spooky” variants of the popular Infection maps.

So why did they get updates while other playlists which actually NEED updates (Arena, Team Slayer, Team Objective) get ignored?

i think a griffball update was in the works for months, a few months ago a got into a party chat and heard people from griffball hub discussing new gametypes and maps and now what i heard is happening so it’s about time, griffball hasn’t had an update in ages as well and has a fairly strong following.

whats wrong with updating the community maps? surely it would be better to get them updated sooner then later?

Grifball has gotten an update almost every month it has existed on Reach. You just got look in the right places.

not it hasn’t, it hardly ever gets updated and quite frankly, it never really needs an update.

Grifball Dash was put in last month along with several “new” maps every other month

There were a lot of people wanting new map variants made specifically for infection, and as it’s also the most-played/popular playlist in the game, it makes sense to keep people playing it happy, i only hope they add even more community maps to LD, the ones added in january are really good and have freshened it up a lot. Action sack and Invasion are the playlists most in need of some love right now, in my opinion, but 343 are doing their best, and as the old saying goes, they can please some of the people, some of the time, but not all of the people, all of the time.

Though most Grifballers don’t need my backup, what a lovely casual remark you have there. Your rudimentary analysis shows how much you look down upon things you do not understand beyond face value.

I’m guessing you didn’t read the part where the majority, if not all the updates to LD were the “fixes” being asked for through feedback in the forums that you… don’t … read because they’re the LD topics.
Is Arena starting a new season in March? That may have something to do with it if it isn’t.
Slayer is staying Vanilla while a TU-Slayer list is being tweaked.
Team Objective, it’s getting Evade removed and is now 5vs5, didn’t you read?

Upon reviewing my post and noticing you didn’t read a lot before asking questions, why did you feel like putting down the other playlists?

after looking back at some of the bulletins it appears that i might have been wrong …

Jan 2012 Update
Goosechecka requested that all games go to 343 rounds. We politely declined, and instead fixed the early win behavior on previously affected game types.Feb 2012 Update
Map changes include Radiant being removed and Impact Arena (Grifball) and Sierra Vista (Grifball Dash) being added. One additional change to this playlist is that Blargball variants will now appear in voting slot three only. Semi-related, to vote for that choice, you must say “wort wort wort” into your mic while simultaneously selecting that option. Please note that saying “wart wart wart” will render your selection null and void.March 2012 Update
[spoiler]
Those of you who enjoy getting hammered on a regular basis will now have four new maps to play on. Malice N Envy (paired with Blargball), Temple Prime (paired with Grifball Dash), Inspiration (also paired with Grifball Dash), and Hyperbaric (paired with Hand Egg Grifball) are all being added to the hammer-heavy rotation.
The team of fans behind this playlist didn’t feel like that was enough for March, though, so they also added a new game type. It’s called Hand Egg, and here is what Mike from GrifballHub had to say about it.
Hand Egg is a variation of Grifball where you start with a golf club and sword instead of hammer and sword. In the middle of the court, you’ll find the golf ball. The golf ball’s significance in the game is that the bomb spawns on it. As soon as you drop the bomb, it goes to wherever the golf ball is. So not only can you bash the golf ball around and get splatters with it, but it can also be used as way to pass the bomb to a teammate. If you see the golf ball in your opponent’s spawn and a teammate is nearby, you should drop the bomb so they can grab it and run in the for the score. As you can imagine that means it becomes very important to keep track of where the golf ball is at all times.

Grifball has received updates for MONTHS now.

Grifball is the last thing that needs updates.

> It doesn’t really make sense to me to update Grifball, which is basically a flat square with a bunch of guys with hammers running towards a bomb which makes them faster.

Dunno, but I must say for a dedicated group of players, I rarely hear from those players, good or bad. I dont begrudge any playlist that gets attention, for if it was my favorite playlist I would likely be pleased, as I assume griftball lovers are now. This is a win for Halo in general so Im good with it.

> Neither does updating Living Dead, which, quite honestly, isn’t really in need of an update with the “spooky” variants of the popular Infection maps.

My understanding was that further refinements were done on those maps by the incredibly proud forgers (rightfully so, bravo) and the update was merely those refinements being implemented and I imagine there wont be much more attention for this playlist as it does not need it. However, considering it is top two of the most popular playlist, any attention 343 gives to it is frankly justified, lots of customers there.

> So why did they get updates while other playlists which actually NEED updates (Arena, Team Slayer, Team Objective) get ignored?

TS, is doing fine without any attention and the attention that was given (TU) apparently was undesired.

In my opinion, there is no other playlist besides Arena that needs attention more and as a fan of Halo, I recognize ranked play as important to the franchise.

I would be happy if 343 took every resource being put into Reach currently, redirected and focused it solely in and on Arena.

The more I look at this update, the more it pisses me off. Some of these choices are stupid.

Why am I not surprised to see Hostball and Camp Dead getting updates while Invasion is left dying? Sometimes I really do miss Bungie at times, even if they -Yoinked!- up Reach, they still did their best to update these playlists despite being limited on what they could do.

This is MY opinion, you don’t like it, then go away.

Thought: Since the control and responsibility for balancing and testing maps and gametypes for both playlists are in the hands of others, 343 doesn’t need to do it themselves and thus can easily just push those changes in at the request of the respective “owners.”

The Living Dead maps were updates to already approved map variants - minimal work.
Grifball is a community controlled playlist - minimal work.

Also, all the work they do in each month =/= the changes that they introduce the month after.

Quit yer -Yoink-’

(also, they did update Team Objective, and they duplicated TS is Super Slayer).
