I’ve always wanted to a legit thread on this. This threads purpose to cause a stir big enough to hear our request for a Halo movie, I mean what Halo fan wouldn’t want a Halo movie?
Lets take it back to 2004 when Halo was rumored and then confirmed to have a movie directed by Peter Jackson, and directed Neill Blomkamp (District 9). Neill even made a short Halo back in the day that I’m sure 99% of Halo fans watched. Deals fell through though with Fox wanting a unfair percent of profits from the movie.
Why did Microsoft even do a deal with Fox is beyond me. Since Microsoft closed down their movie making division they need to find a good distributor. Microsoft needs to realize this is for the fans and compromise in negotiations. I full faith 343i will be on board (as they LOVE lore) but would be worried about Microsoft ruining negotiations. IMHO the best distributor would be Disney. Let me explain. Disney has the experience and shown with Marvel and Star Wars they are capable of delivering solid mature movies. They know when to back off and let the directors and writers do there work.
Not only would Disney be the best bet they may even distribute for FREE. Yes FREE. Sony did this with Disney to allow spiderman to be in the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) with Sony only taking profit from Spiderman stand alone films. Microsoft could strike a deal with Disney allowing Disney to sell their own Halo merchandise (aside from mega blocks). Possibly creating a Halo land in their parks similar to Star Wars land. Yes we will CRINGE at the products Disney will put out (117 Mikey Mouse anyone?) just as Star Wars fans do but WE WILL BE GETTING A FREAKING HALO MOVIE!
I mean for the love of Halo, Call of Duty, Assassins Creed, World of Warcraft and even -Yoinking!- Angry Birds are getting movies! Halo’s lore DESTROYS those movies and dare I say would rival Star Wars! Lets be honest Halo 5 didn’t deliver on the campaign and MCC was well…the MCC. Lets hype up the next Halo game with a movie. Whose with me? In the comments leave a idea for a Halo movie!
Naw…no thanks I dont want 343 destroying Halo Lore anymore than they already have…Halo was a master piece and now its shattering slowly in the lore department with so many gaps and loops that arent being filled. If you want to see a Halo movie watch Halo Legends…Im not to impressed with Forward Onto Dawn and whatever Locke was playing. They havent given us enough dept with our recent Halo characters. The Spartan 2’s may not all have had their stories told like chief, but we knew where they came from and what their goals were. They were orphans and those who accepted their abduction into the Spartan 2 Program had a nightmare history, either dying from the agumentations ,dying in battle, or living to fight another day as a true war machine. That in itself is deep as they have given a
their lives as sacrifice and have yet to truely live their lives a regular citizens. Now Spartan 4’s I completely dont like…at all…their armor…their attitudes…their lack of silence as worriers as they run their mouth more often and remind me of how people are today…when they should be united and more accomplished.

Have you read the Forerunner trilogy? That’s enough evidence for you that 343i is NOT ruining Halo Lore. If anyone who was ruining Halo lore that my friend would be Bungie where they created a half -Yoink- campaign in Halo Reach. Don’t get me wrong it was a great story but was screaming recannon. Halo Legends was an outsourced job by Bungie. And what you described my friend would be a great Halo movie.
I really wish we had a movie also but we are supposedly getting a tv show by Steven Spielberg. A user here named AngryBuda is actually writing a letter to him about what’s going on because we haven’t heard anything in a while.

I do belive we will get one as its only a normal progression. From online to the silver screen then to the theaters
I wouldn’t say free as both studios are mutually benefiting from the spiderman deal. Plus it’s only hearsay as we only know this from “anonymous sources” close to the deal so there may be some financial negotiations that the general public doesn’t/won’t know about.
But this brings me to my point that both sides would have to benefit for this kind of deal to work. Microsoft is simply waiting to bet their chips before giving the distribution rights to one of their most beloved franchise till they know how the market will impact their end. That when it comes to video game adaptions, the market is financially not to great at this point in time, and thus may kill any chance of Halo being seen on the small or silver screen for a good long while. So thus, they are most likely testing the waters in two ways.
The first way is waiting to see what recent video game adaptions are coming to market in regards to Assassins Creed and World of Warcraft and I’m betting that if they are financial blockbusters, then I would say almost immediately they will announce that the Halo movie is on the way. Hopefully this will usher in a new trend in Hollywood tentpoles, moving from comic adaptions onto video game.
The second, which at this point they are going through with, is waiting to see the response to the Spielberg TV series. But I have a feeling the reason we haven’t heard anything is due to what I had previously stated. That Microsoft and those financially tied to the production (Showtime) most likely heard of these movies coming out and are probably stalling development to see if there is a new trend that may shake up the entertainment world if video games become the new “Marvel Universe” as it where. That success or not, will have implications on how they proceed with the Halo TV series. Mainly in terms of budgeting.
So the good news is that at least Hollywood is taking notice of video games as potential franchises. It’s now only a matter of time if Microsoft takes a chance and goes for the silver screen or continues on with the small screen.
Fox did good job with their X-Men franchise ya know…well with Disney, they do have a very good marketing strategy, but their plate is already full…
It’s kinda disappointing knowing they cancelled their deal with Fox because of unfair sharing, because if the movie worked well they can demand higher share because it’s Halo, you can’t get enogh with one movie. I think this thought gonna be well discused again (with Microsoft and 343i) if Assassin Creed movie going well…
tell me, is there any success game adaptation movie? Because I can’t think one…

I’m also share your thought. I would say that a CGI film would be better, but as I see, I think it would be very expensive and would take a few years to make it.

I can’t wait to see the Assassin’s Creed movie, it’s look promising from what I watched and read about it. Good actors and story, plus Ubi monitors the process and the whole film so I hope it will be great. And soon we’ll get a trailer.
FUD and Nightfall were both underwelming, but they were made for non profit reasons with low budgets, so to speak. I mean, they attached Ridley Scotts name to Nighfall, but that only equated to him producing the first episode. I hope that Stephen Speilburg has more of an involvement in the TV show, and also bringing a big budget with him too.
Everything come down to money at the end of the day. Sure you can get good actors that are cheap, but the special effects, locations, filming equipment, lighting, sound capture and all the other parts to making a movie improve with the budget. MS arn’t doing themselfs any favors by throwing 10% of their effort and money in to making something like Nightfall, because big companies like Fox and Disney will look at it and say “well this franchise doesn’t translate very well to the big screen” and they will just pass up on any deal MS wants to throw at them.
Just want to thank everyone for the great feedback.

There’s nothing to disagree about what you said. If world of war craft and assassin’s creed become hits I could without a doubt see a Halo movie on the way. Halo is just filled with so much juicy story I just cannot see it not be coming a movie. If done right Halo could be a huge competitor.

There were rumors saying the Halo movie was on par with Avatars budget and the script was amazingly well written. I’ll try to find the link. There was a completed script as well. I wonder who has it, Frank o Connor, Neill, Peter Jackson?

So much money wasted wow. This statement by Microsoft reassures us though it won’t be a half as job
> Promise to…Halo fans throughout the world that we would settle for no less than bringing a first class film to the big screen.
I know you guys probably dont know me but i can safely tell you i have a halo fan film made for the fans in the making! Its currently in its early development but this film is 100% Photo realistic CGI! Its gonna look as good or better then the halo2 Anniversary cutscenes, let that sink in. A true Halo movie made by a true halo fan, it will try and go into halo lore that isnt explored often and will be around two hours long. Im not giving out details but imagine halo so dark and gritty it scares when your watching it but its so beautiful with its worlds, species, cultures, architecture, emotion, etc…You just almost want to cry. Im making a halo movie the fans deserve. Bloody, gorey, explicit language, nudity, drug reverence, violence, etc Its the Halo you’ve always wanted to see. No release date is planned but we’re hoping with in 2018 or 2019 it will release!
I wanted a movie, but after seeing Forward Unto Dawn and Nightfall, I am as skeptical as ever. I believe a movie script will cause the story to move in a very one directional plot, (although the game does as well), it will be a lot worse than the game.
