Why We NEED a Halo 5 Standalone Steam Port

First off: NO I am not asking for it to be part of MCC, that’s a bad idea and has been debunked to death.

Ok now that that’s out of the way, allow me to elaborate on why we need a Halo 5 steam port:

  1. With Infinite constantly upsetting fans and losing players and even some to games like MCC and Halo 5,
it’d be better to just give Halo 5 a steam port with some bug fixes and mod support simply to try and gain
some of the goodwill from MCC that was lost with Infinite back with a Halo 5 steam port.

  2. Halo 5 is currently the only mainline Halo not on steam, WHAT?! WHY?!

  3. Halo 5 has so much mod potential because of its sandbox it is actually insane. Imagine a Superfiesta mode with only mythic weapons, or even porting over old vehicles like the Falcon or Hornet, so many possibilities open with this.

  4. The community has been begging for this ever since MCC came to steam.

  5. The chance to actually fix up H5 like the MCC and again, regain a lot of that goodwill from MCC that was lost with Infinite.

  6. Opportunity to add in some of those missing REQ variants that didn’t quite make the cut.

  7. Halo 5 on portable would not only make a lot of money it would bring in a lot of new players as well since it is the easiest Halo multiplayer to start with. (By portable I mean PC laptop or Steam Deck if support ever gets added for the later should the port actually be made)

I know people are saying a H5 PC port would kill Infinite, but would it though? MCC is still getting updates but it doesn’t seem to be increasing players too much, H5 would definitely generate some hype, but who knows. I don’t think it’d be enough to finish off Infinite by a long shot though.

Anyway here are my thoughts on the matter what do you guys think?

Now that the end of 2022 is here, I will say that at this point where 343 is at with MCC and Infinite, were probably not going to be seeing anything until after maybe 2024 at this point, maybe when the 10th anniversary of Halo 5 comes along in 2025. What 343 needs to do with the MCC team is finish up all the work they are willing to do on the collection (still a few big legacy features left, better coop netcode, more armor customization especially for H2A (H2A map remakes) and H2C, more Halo Online maps added to Halo 3, etc.) and then many of the member can transfer to working on porting Halo 5 to PC. Since we already have Halo 5 Forge on PC, they can use that as a base, get that app on Steam as a free download (convert the app from UWP to Win32), then they can work on the full game getting the rest of it on PC.

I have been in full support of Halo 5 getting a fully fledged PC port for years now.

  1. I really hope they finally fix that annoying bug that prevents you from going into matchmaking or co-op unless you go into customs or Forge first!
  2. It always bugged me that Halo 5 is the only mainline Halo not on PC, and that’s what really upsets a lot of PC players as they then have to either rely on cloud gaming or get an Xbox One or Series. I VERY SERIOUSLY wish that 343 would just stop overcorrecting from Halo 5. Period.
  3. Steam Workshop support would really be amazing for Halo 5. I would imagine that H5’s mod potential is way off the charts. It should be possible to create fully fledged custom weapons, campaign levels, vehicles, enemies, etc. Also, I would just love to be able to play as campaign characters in multiplayer or even spawn them in Forge. Lastly, inb4 Thana’s insane Enemy Pack comes to Halo 5 lol
  4. Yes, but I have seen people beg for H5 to come to PC even before MCC was ever announced for PC actually.
  5. Yes, Halo 5 deserves the new MCC treatment - expanded customization, lots of bug fixes, and several new items.
  6. Yes, I would love to see the yellow-orange Reach Grenade Launcher cluster variant that never made the cut.
  7. There’s also the Xbox Cloud Gaming on phones and tablets, but laptops and Steam Deck will always be superior.

Personally I’d like to see 343 start updating H5 again even if it’s just for a few semi-major updates, things like the brute shot + varaints, Falcon + variants, and hornet + variants would be very welcome additions. Not to mention expanded customization would be hype.

Personally I think if H5 got the MCC treatment it could completely revitalize the game.

Yeah, H5 needs to fully come to PC on MS store and Steam, alongside with Xbox Series performance improvements and maybe even the MCC treatment, bring in bug fixes, adding mod support and restoring cut content

Honestly top 5 things I want to see with Halo 5 should it get the MCC treatment:

  1. Fix the crash that can occur in the custom games menus after finishing a game

  2. Fix Infection so custom game variants can be saved again.

  3. Weapon toggle options for Super Fiesta to allow for a more “controlled” variety of super fiesta sub variants.

  4. Mod support, c’mon we all want this for Halo 5.

  5. Steam Deck support if a Steam Launch does in fact happen.

Given the PC Steam version of Infinite is out of order I am back playing MCC. Given the smaller player base it makes more sense to bolt Halo 5 on MCC. Sure the game is larger but on a PC today SSD capacity is now 8TB.

MOD support is perfunctory but custom game world maps are a lot of work to produce.

Halo 5 will NEVER come to MCC. It’s already been confirmed multiple times. Did you read the title of the thread? It clearly says: Why We NEED a Halo 5 Standalone Steam Port

Also, you shouldn’t be overestimating the availability and underestimating the price of SSDs. The vast majority of people still use regular HDDs as SSDs are still expensive.

You forget that MCC is still primarily played on Xbox and a LOT of us DON’T want H5 in MCC. It doesn’t need to be there, just make a standalone full port! Why is this such a hard concept for this community to understand?!

MCC was popular on Steam reaching 3rd overall when Reach was released first. Rest of the game came incrementally as the rest was remastered for 4K renderings.

Reach is really well animated but Combat Evolved Anniversary was remastered to give the classic much better action on the PC

I am well aware of this, but my point is Halo 5 will bloat MCC on Xbox regardless, and not to mention that MCC has become incredibly unstable within the last few months, so adding Halo 5 to MCC would essentially be a death sentence to any functionality MCC currently has left.

It’d be better off to just make a standalone Halo 5 Steam port separate from MCC entirely as to avoid any more technical issues cropping up that could completely destroy MCC’s functionality.

Halo: MCC on Steam seems to work fine as I have finished Reach and I am play Halo: CE now until I finally finish it as that game takes a long time to play.

Yes and MCC on Xbox both Xbox One and Series X is very UNSTABLE. Steam is not the ONLY version of MCC, it’s not even the main version, anything that is added to MCC gets added to both, it doesn’t matter if Steam is stable, which I’m betting it actually is just as bad as Xbox, if H5 was added to MCC it’d be on both Steam and Xbox and it’d cripple the actual playability of the collection itself at least on Xbox, where the majority playerbase of the game resides.

I have heard the console versions of MCC are troublesome. Would be nice to have the console versions stable.

They were pretty stable up until about 7 months ago. Maybe a little longer than that.
