Why We must end the Hate. Bring together MLG and the Casual Community

I am sure there have been plenty of topics to this end, but I am throwing my .02 in anyway.

I have been gaming for a long time, Halo was the fist FPS in my life and seeing how it has fallen sickens me. We need to do something and do it quickly.

Halo 4 is our last chance. If it fails, the pillar that halo is as a competitive and fun shooter will be surrendered. And to make halo 4 the best it can be, we need balance. And before all the casual gamers lose their mind, please read this entirely. For balance, we NEED MLG to work with 343.

And we need MLG because of two things. CE and Halo 2. The 2 most beloved games in the franchise and still the most fun to play. Why? Because you can be a pro or suck at them, but still have amazing fun, whether it’s objective, MLG or zombies. And that is because of balance.

Weapon balance at the core of any game allows for the game to succeed. zombies wouldn’t have worked if the pistols couldn’t JUST out range the swords, etc. And the people who know most about balance are the MLG pros. When you play a game at its highest level, flaws are like the sun in your eye. You know it when it blinds you. But what people don’t seem to grasp is that MLG does not want to make Halo 4 our personal game. We just want weapon balance so that the game is competitive and fun for everyone.

A lot of the anti MLG arguments have all centered around wanting to make the game “theirs”. We don’t want that. We want our own corner to play in, because we like to play a certain way. And we want everyone to have their fun. But the important thing is that everyone can appreciate each others’ fun! Look at it like sports, I can go out and play football and just have fun tossing the ball around. I would never be able to play in the NFL, but I can enjoy a pick up game or two and still enjoy watching it be played at it’s highest level. Why? Because at it’s core football is the same; whether I am playing with friends or watching the 49’s and Cowboys go at it.

It should be the same for Halo. The game at it’s highest level of play should be the same at it’s lowest. There may be a few rule changes and some small differences, but at the end of the day it is all Halo, and everyone can enjoy watching that. And that is why we need to come together!

A game that caters to only one group is never good. Because you only satisfy one group and leave the rest out to dry. Make a game for MLG only would not sell well, but dumbing down a game for the lowest common denominator just widens the gap between communities. So we have the “MLG Community” and the “Casuals”. We need to just be the Halo community and enjoy everything about each other.

So this is my call to action. MLGers, stop looking down on the casual communiy, we all need to come together and make a great game in Halo 4

Casuals, don’t hate on MLG just because it carries that name. And times have changed, we all want Halo 4 to succeed. So go to the MLG forums and introduce yourselves, you will find a welcoming and supportive community (minus a few bad apples, but every community has those). Go to halocouncil.com and help build up the halo community and make it a force in the gaming world. We only get a say in our games if we rally together.

We need to work together, otherwise we will all fall.

Well put.

This should stay front page to give people a read.

Very nice, thank you.

I hope people will understand.
I am casual, but i want to be competitive sometimes. But i dont want to get matched up with hard-core-MLG pro’s in a gametype like Invasion, or sociale team slayer. Thats just no fun.

As you said, we need to start of on the same level, and rush the power weapons for map controll.

I disagree with the most fun halo, Halo 3 IMO is the most fun.

That was very well put. It is what I have been wanting for a while now. I want the two communities to come together to make Halo 4 the best game ever. I want to be able to play social slayer and then go play MLG and have barely any difference. I want it to basically feel the same. I want to be able to watch MLG games and recognize it and be able to think to myself, “I can do that” or “I didn’t know about that shortcut”.

The MLG community has changed in the last year or so. It has come a long way from being almost completely “elitist” to a lot more welcoming. People change. Communities change. Sometimes you just have to look past your hurt feelings or prejudice to see what is really happening and going on. Everyone wants Halo 4 to be the best game possible. So we need to work together, not try to split the community apart even more than it already is.

MLG doesn’t want a one-gun game. MLG doesn’t want plain, boring maps. MLG doesn’t want to have to change the settings to try to make the game play competitively. MLG wants to game to be able to play competitively out of the box. They want a variety of weapons that are useful and balanced. They want varied maps that are balanced and play well and flow well. They want to see Halo 4 succeed.

We need to make this a Halo community once more. There will always be a few bad apples on both sides. It is time to ignore them and come together.

Stop referring to us as the “casuals”.

I’ve been playing games since the -Yoinking!- 80’s, and I can guarantee I’ve played more games than 99% of the people on this site. I’m an obsessively hardcore gamer. To call me “casual” because I don’t like MLG’s settings is pretty insulting.

The “casuals” aren’t the ones making this distinction anyway. They’re not the ones trying to divide and categorize everyone. MLG’s doing that. You want MLG and casuals to get along? Everyone got along fantastically before MLG introduced the jockification of gaming.

End the hate? Sure, MLG should get right on that since they’re the ones who started it.

Couldn’t have said it better myself.

P.S. Welcome to Waypoint!

Don’t think for a second you represent the majority of casuals.

Need I say more?

EDIT: Okay I’ll say more since there is so much to dispute in this one post. Firstly, yes it is the casuals making the distinction, there is so much blind hatred for the MLG guys here, but over there, there isn’t the opposite.

You don’t see MLG guys complaining about how casuals are braindead 10 year olds, you don’t see them asking for casuals to only get 1 playlist while the rest of the gamers get the rest.

The public opinion of MLG is what casuals have created, and of course the MLG guys want to get rid of that, why shouldn’t they?

Want proof of this? Here they are trying to form peace between the two groups, and here you are hating on MLG. tut tut tut

Been playing Halo for nine or ten years, and gaming before that, but I assume the term “casual” applies to me.

We ALL want a fun, balanced game with variety and choices. The difference is that you EM EL Gees are louder, more obnoxious, and even when trying to put your best foot forward manage to rub people the wrong way. If you want us to all get along as Halo Gamers, why not STOP going out of your way to draw a distinction between people who game for relaxed fun and people who are -Yoink!- about each and every mechanic?

I like Halo, and I’ll play the game as it’s made to be played. If you’re truly EM EL GEE, then just change up the settings to something you enjoy. Hitscan is back, original multiplayer maps are back, bloom is gone. We don’t really NEED EM EL GEE or some sort of protest to decide how it’s coming out.

I guess the bottom line is that EM EL GEE really only matters to itself and its own community. If you want hate to stop, then quit yelling foul about a game that isn’t even released, and thus far looks badass.

And no, I don’t mean the actual players of MLG events, I mean the vocal majority in the forums.

I have no idea what the MLG players are like, and I don’t intend to slag them off just because they’re linked to their fans.

Love how people who dont play MLG are casual, lol. A disappointed MLG community would be unfortunate, but ultimately they have no substantial effect on the sales of the game or the Metascore, so 343 probably doesn’t care right now.

To everyone on this thread MLG is working with 343.
