Why was the Human/Elite treaty broken?

I don’t know if anybody has touched on this subject yet but i have been curious sense the new gameinformer issue as to why the treaty between the elites and the humans was broken?

Did the elites betray the humans or vice versa?

Did they rejoin the covenant?

Are they so bad off now that they have been reduced to broken bands of space pirates?

All that was said is that Cheif has been in cryo for a long time and upon leaving the sleep chamber room he is attacked by a half armored elite.

Who says it has? Nothing says these Elites are with the Arbiter.

i might be wrong but i dont think any group of the elites stayed with the covenant after the brutes took over their place as the alpha race of the prophets.

> true but why are they attacking cheif?

Because humans are tasty… and they’re hungry…

Mmmmmm… Flesh

You should check out Halo Glasslands. Not the best book ever, but it’s readable.

Where is it on the timeline?

In Halo 4, the covenant you fight are “splinter groups” or “rogue fleets” of covenant that never wanted to join the human ally group.

Is that speculation or did you pull that from a source? if so could i please get the link?

Not too sure about that, the one group that went that route was destroyed at Onyx. It was either ally with the humans or get wiped out.

Yeah i dont think any of the elites stuck around. kinda got stabbed in the back in a big way by the prophets.

Friggin ONI in Glasslands prolly screwed it up by Halo 4.
Good old ONI, screwing people over since 2525.

If memory serves the elites broke off from the covenant after the prophets made the brutes their new vangaurd, they then were lead by the arbiter to assist the cheif in the destruction of the flood.

Because a portion of the Elites feel they need to strike humanity before humanity strikes them while they’re on their knees. This is mostly attributed to the fact that a lot of warriors came home with no wars to fight. So, it just boils down to paranoia/boredom. The treaty was only with humanity and the people on the Arbiters side, it wasn’t with humanity and the entire Sangheili population.

Good thought, but the elites dont seem like a race that would go out looking for war, although they are a warrior race at heart, their culture relates more to fuedal japan than anything.

Humanity can never forget or forgive the Sangheili, but more war is not an option. If the Elites don’t attack, maybe show a goodwill gesture or two, perhaps another war is unnecessary. Of course that would be honorable and the Elites have no honor despite what they might think.

Some of the Elites don’t think the war is over, they think there’s just a break. They see it as their duty to continue to fight the humans to protect their planet. After the fall of the Covenant they were left with meager scrappings of technology, they don’t even really remember how to run a planet on their own anymore. They’re at their weakest hour and they think the humans will take advantage of that. They see the humans as a lying and deceitful race, they don’t believe for a second that humans can just let the past 20 something years of fighting that occurred.

I wasn’t really suggesting the Humans wanted more war with the Elites, but some Elites seem to think that’s not true. The Sangheili population is divided, you have the Aribter showing good will (did so by agreeing to the treaty among other things), and you have the population fighting humans that we see in Halo 4. I think the Arbiter is one of the very few who is actually sincere about the treaty, others just agreed to it because they realize they need to take care of their planet first.

i dont think thats true, the elites relate very strongly to fuedal japan in the culture and beleifs, their clan honor was their highest priority. i forget the name of the movie but its a collaboration of halo short stories by different artist and one episode dives pretty deep into the elites homeworld and their culture.

Ah, still slaves to the Prophets lies. It won’t matter much though, the Elites and Brutes will soon go to war anyway, ruining their technology even further.

Not all Elites share the same views, just like not all Humans share the same views. 30 years of war and hate can’t be erased with a simple treaty.

There are groups of Elites that still think that Humans are a blasphemous pestilence that deserve to be wiped from the galaxy.

When you can tell me where the honor is in glassing entire planets, slaughtering innocent women and children and then killing your leaders if you disagree with them, let me know.
