Why was the Boltshot created?

I’m not being sarcastic here, I legitimately don’t see a good reason for this weapon to exist. It does nothing but strangle melee combat (which is bad), occasionally beat the shotgun/scattershot (which isn’t as bad), and make the sword even more inferior than it already was (which sucks, cause I really like the sword).

Can anybody explain to me what good it does, if any?

I think not seeing a reason for the weapon to exist is a stretch.

It’s meant to be a third option pistol and a Mauler put together. It’s a bit too effective though.

I meant why would 343i create a weapon that so obviously detracts from CQC combat as a whole.

The Boltshot was made to be used as a weapon for Halo 4 (:

I would rather be boltshotgunned than double melee’d. I think it should still be a OSK, but needs : 1. reduced range, 2. longer charge time, 3. full mag consumption, 4. inability to hold charge(e.g. splazer)

What it was supposed to be: A Halo 2 pistol combined with a Halo 3 mauler

What it became: A Halo 2 pistol combined with a precision shotgun

Someone forgot to balance this.

Suggestions I’ve made in the past so I agree with all of them. However, if all 4 were included, it would be the next Brute mauler which no one would use. Full clip after 1 shot should most definitely be included, as well as a nerf to range.
