Not a deal-breaker or anything, the game type is as fun as it always has been. But I’d like to know why the name change happened, and I wonder if we could change it back?
Edit: Guys, please quit the political fighting. I was just asking about a name change.
This… This right here is why the game is “ Free to play “. People get so offended that they have to spend money on a game, which tells companies that it is okay to go “ Free to play “ and then give the players the illusion that they can spend money at there own will and let the player think there in control.
Kills are now sometimes (but not always) referred to as ‘slay’ or ‘slays.’
I get avoiding unnecessary trauma or emotional response for key words like “suicide” but for stuff like Swat or Kill I’m kind of tired of neutering language for the sole reason that it can be loosely correlated back to some negative event in the real world. Are people really so disturbed that they see “Swat” in Halo and think that they’ll swat someone? (and if they do, thats a severe underlying mental and social problem preceding the video game itself).
A mod on here said it was due to the incidences of “swatting” streamers IRL.
My personal opinion? It’s because the developers all live in a very far left area of the country where people over-analyze the feelings of over-sensitive people.
Same reason we don’t have “suicide” in the game anymore… it’s now “self-destruction”.
Obviously the IRL concerns are real. But the in-game responses are silly and unnecessary. Nobody ever swatted a streamer because they played SWAT in Halo and heard the word there. That’s not a thing.
Its been speculated/debated that the reason for the name change was because of the backlash that 343i recieved for releasing that ODST police siren nameplate in MCC a year or two ago… Basically we are to blame for this
Ultimately it doesn’t really matter, what matters is how the playlist functions.
They could change Team Slayer to Team Killers and I wouldn’t really care, I care about the gameplay and the experience, names are superfluous stuff.
Yeah this. Kinda tired too of real world stuff affecting games. The two should have no connection whatsoever. I do not even play the game in english but I still find that ridiculous…
It’s just another symptom of overly emotional children never growing up or facing actual problems, and for some reason they have to make things problematic that aren’t remotely problematic at all. Some people just love causing drama sadly enough
As I understand it, swatting someone was a practice of calling the police accusing a streamer of doing criminal/terrorist stuff at their home, so that they send a SWAT team and break into the streamers home and arrest everyone.
Pretty awful stuff.
But it just doesn’t have anything to do with a game mode in Halo.
That does sound pretty darn awful. I usually don’t get that upset by internet “pranks” but that does go too far. I agree, it doesn’t really sound like it has anything to do with a Halo gamemode.
