I am honestly confused as to why halo 4 was getting such a huge backlash even though it sold relatively well and pleased many people much as myself. Whats up with all the hate? yes I understand the direction of the loadouts, ordinance and the sprite was not originally in halo, but the game honestly needed some unique features to spice up the repetitive gameplay. I’m super curious as to why? was it the campaign cause halo 2 n 3 ain’t really that much fun. In my opinion the lack of damage produced by any weapon other the br rocket launcher n sniper was practically useless. Idk…
2) The weird thing is I don’t much care for halo5. I feel the dash ability gives a person too much leeway to get away making it feel cheap in multiplayer sorta ruining my competitive experience also the campaigns false advertisement sorta ruin the campaign for me sadly…lol I’m new to the forms so please don’t be too harsh
Character development, death of major character, bad servers at start (I couldn’t play completely until March 2013, game came out in November 6, 2012), lack of game classic UI for game modes (ex. Infection), and addition of sprint.
I can understand sprint, but the rest… Well, it left things to be desired. Sprint is terrible in Halo IMO. Reach was fair, it required adaptation to constantly changing enemies. Sprint was also balanced by switching out Jet Pack for it (Jet Pack> Sprint imo)
what about the unbalanced multiplayer and the random power weapon falling from the sky …just crap
I loved the game. Never had any problems with servers and I got it at launch. Halo 4 is still my favorite Halo, even better than Halo 5.
I personally think that it was a game that was just following modern trends as oppose to trying to innovate… Halo 5 is better, but to me it just felt like a shooter that just happened to look like halo

We think alike, brother.

I’m still going through spartan ops myself, but death of major characters? I don’t remember anything like this in Halo 4 (unless you mean the very end)… And besides, haven’t major characters died throughout all of Halo? There’s been a lot of characters I ended up liking who have met their end, and new ones tend to come along to replace them. Heck we even have games based around how teams met their end (Reach for example).
- Campaign
The story was so different compared to the others’, the graphics though pretty were a step down, I don’t care if they used motion capture for the NPCs Halo Reach explosions looked the best; Halo 4’s looked like jigsaw pieces and confetti when they happened. Also unskippable cutscenes and no boss fight. All that build up in the final mission… - Spartan Ops
I had no idea until episode 7 that it was telling the story between halo 4 and 5, there was no mention of it in the beginning, all I knew was that it replaced firefight. Same goes for the cut scenes - had no idea they were even there. - No firefight.
- Multiplayer… was way too easy. The beauty of modern halo is that there is practically no learning curve - you pretty much pick it up and within minutes you got it. For seasoned players it means easy kills but when it gets laughable it also gets boring. Also when your ordinance kills you after landing, when someone who can’t play to save their life gets enough assists to acquire a power weapon to stop better players with, gametypes in the wrong playlists, randomness, bad maps, too many power weapons!
- And that sprint was there. Blah, Blah. To be honest Halo 4 is sort of like reach
I’ve been playing Halo since CE and I can honestly say Halo 4 is my favorite of them all. I guess it has something to do the general atmosphere of the game. The art style, the gameplay, the music, and most of all the story is what makes me absolutely love this game. It was unique, it was different, but something about it just made it feel so… right. Whether it be the weapon sounds or the map designs (like Haven for example, that map is a true masterpiece), it’s so precise and nearly perfect. The multiplayer had it’s flaws but these were just ideas carried over from Reach. I guess it’s a matter of opinion, but I will not deny Halo 4 was truly a beautiful work of art.
I really don’t know and really don’t care. Halo 4 is my second favorite in the franchise. I don’t know what you mean by veteran’s but I’ve been a day one player and never hated on a Halo game but have my minor issues with them except H:CE. Halo 4 is fun but wish they would do boss fights already lol. The Didact in H4 would have been awesome to fight.

The music and art direction in Halo 4 is my favorite out of all them.

Character development? You mean because it HAD character development? Remember, Sgt. Johnson didn’t even have a NAME until Halo 2. Death of major character? Foehammer? (if you don’t think she was a major character in Halo CE, let’s name them: Chief, Cortana, Keyes, Guilty Spark, Foehammer … yup, that’s it), Johnson? Miranda? Pretty major characters. In terms of story and campaign it’s very similar to CE, which is my favorite … and that’s why Halo 4 is my 2nd favorite campaign.
But anyway, I liked Halo 4, but I get why people did not. All the “because it wasn’t Bungie” reasons aside. I liked it because it acknowledged the lore. I liked it because Chief was the character we knew from the books and had personality (he had a bit in the original games, but not like he did in the books and Halo 4).
It was a departure gameplay wise. Too much, really. I still enjoyed it. It was still Halo, but I think they went too far with loadouts and perks. I never expected it to be Halo 3. I played it for what it was and had fun, but I understood why people were upset by it.
I know a lot of h3 players who hate h4 to the extent that they bail out of matches rather and play it. This is for a number of reasons
- just an aversion to change, many h3 players wanted h4 just to be h3 with more maps
2)a perceived down grade in skill level, the br/dmr/pistol/sniper in h4 are easier to use than the h3 weapons. Jumps are absent from h4 compared to h3, where we had to practice to move around the map effectively, ask a h4 player what “curve jumps, crouch jumps, slide jumps, ghost edges , grenade jumps etc” are and they won’t have a clue, in h3 these were standard, if you couldn’t do them your skill level would be compramised.
3)sprinting, jet packs, weapon drops are detested, also medals like comeback medals… Seriously a medal coz you suck ? Should be called " must try harder medal" lol
The best h4 players I know are h3 players, the average skill level in h4 games is low and it can be irksome for players who want a challenge. Personally I like h4 but prefer h3.
I can list a few reasons why I personally didn’t like it.
- The art design. Everything had a bulky, boxy appearance to it for some reason. Even the guns. The Forerunner architecture looked and acted different then in the past.
- The story was rushed. How does Chief know who the Didact is? Are they referencing the terminals from Halo 3 (which were optional)? How do they know the UNSC Infinity if they had been in sleep for four years? How come know one freaks out that the Master friggen Chief is back?
- Sarah Palmer
- Bringing the Covenant back as the main enemy, even though Halo 3 led it to believe that the remainder just wanted to be left alone.
- No Marty O’Donnell
- Spartan Ops
That’s just to name a few.

This list looks like it was taken straight out of a CinemaSins video. Oh, the Forerunner architecture looked and acted different? Maybe that’s because we’re not on a Halo ring in this game, and things function differently on shield worlds. The story was rushed? First, I feel the need to point out that it wasn’t MC who knew the Didact’s name, it was Cortana. That could have been from the terminals in either H3 or H4, or both. She had to tell Chief who it was. And the Infinity? Cortana herself mentioned that she only knew about it as a concept before its actual commission. And the marines in the game make it quite clear that they are impressed the Chief is back. And then you’re just going to slap a whole number on Sarah Palmers with no justification? Maybe you don’t like her, fine. I didn’t like 343 Guilty Spark, even when we were led to believe he wasn’t an antagonist. That didn’t make the original trilogy bad games. As for the Covenant, perhaps if you’d paid any attention to the expanded universe, you’d know that the Sangheili were hardly united on the subject of their place in the galaxy. There was a civil war on Sanghelios between the Arbiter’s supporters and religious zealots who supported the form of worship that the Sangheili held before their induction into the Covenant. Jul 'Mdama took advantage of this and re-formed a new splinter group of Covenant races that still believed in the Forerunners. Also, did you really think that 343 was just going to pull probably one of the most iconic enemy factions in the history of gaming? Like there wouldn’t be any uproar about that. Martin O’Donnell? It’s not 343’s fault that he stuck with Bungie. And look how those guys treated him. And I personally loved the story of Spartan Ops, even if the gameplay was a bit repetitive. If you disagree with me, then that’s your opinion, and you don’t have to play it. That doesn’t make Halo 4 a bad game. In conclusion, I completely disagree with you.

Ok, you have good comebacks on everything EXCEPT the “If you had read the Expanded Universe”. You shouldn’t have to read EU materials to understand what is going on in the game you are playing. Aside from a few nods here and there NO game in the past needed the EU (except maybe Halo Wars, but that wasn’t made by Bungie) to understand it. This is really getting annoying. Between this, Star Wars, and the MCU, this whole obsession with making every movie and game connect with outside sources that used to be optional to read is really getting annoying.
I liked the campaign (I mean, come on. Flyable Pelican!), aside from the bullet sponge Knights. I’ve played a few custom games, and I feel that the multiplayer was okay.

I did like the Pelican part. My only grief: it wasn’t the Pelican model I loved from Halo 1 and 2.
