So this is something I’ve been wondering for a while why were all the main characters who appear in ground engagements in HEVs when In Amber Clad followed Regret through slipspace?
Could’ve been in preparation for an assault on the Solemn Penance, which would never come. Or perhaps to save time between Miranda’s discovery of 05 and the actual descent.
The jump to Instillation 05 was not instant. Slipspace does not work like that, it merely drastically shortens the distance between (despite Miranda’s bizzare “quick jump” comment during the opening cinematic of Delta Halo).
The trip from Reach to Instillation 04 too almost two weeks.
The trip from Earth to 05 took…about a week to two, since the battle of 05 is stated to have started on November 2, 2552, while the first battle of earth (Cairo station, Outskirts, Metropolis) began on October 20th.
Everyone had more than enough time to get into their pods and get ready.

Likely because everyone thinks Slipspace is instantaneous bungie was kind of portraying it that way at least in the games. The Travel to the ark itself is two weeks itself.

Wait seriously? So two weeks pass between the end of Floodgate and the start of The Ark?
Mainly because it’s not a instantaneous jump in Slipspace and they were preparing for anything when they existed Slipspace.

Yep. The Portal merely provides a convenient hole to go through, it doesnt speed up the journey…unless its overclocked anyway, like it was in Hunters In the Dark.

No the portal does speed up the journey and make it near instant. That’s why they needed to turn it back ON in Hunters. The first pre-hunters expedition flew there which is why it took so -Yoink!- long.

Floodgate is November 17th and the ark is December 11th.
