So in the original version of Halo 2, (pre-anniversary), Breaking Benjamin wrote a song which was the level music for the stage Mausoleum. But in the anniversary edition the song is gone. Anyone know why? The replacement songs are nowhere as good. Here’s a clip of the original version. And here’s the anniversary version.
Yeah that was one of the best things about the original Halo 2. I’m pretty sure they couldn’t get licensing to use the song as that was Bungie that temporarily did that or they just didn’t care enough to try.
To my knowledge, the music in H2A is leaning towards the orchestrative side, in contrast to the original’s heavy implementation of rock music.
The license expired, and they [343/Microsoft] didn’t reach out to their lable to use the song again in the new version of the game. That’s the most likely explanation I feel.
On a side note, but also related, I literally just got home from seeing Breaking Benjamin performing in Asheville, NC. It was f’n awesome when the bells starting tolling from the intro to this song and hearing people around me saying " I think it’s the halo song!" And damn near everyone in the place knew all the words. Not bad for a song written for a video game…

I always thought they just used the song from them I didn’t realize the song was created for the game. That’s awsome
