I’ll be completely honest with everyone- Warzone is not worth the headache over. I literally can’t play a single match without enjoying myself and for the majority of the time whenever I try to play Warzone, it’s mostly comprised of senior halo 5 players levels 135 and up. I understand why people would avoid this playlist. It’s loaded with decorated clan members, seasoned marksman, and whole lot of crouch, jumping, shooters who control the map and bases in a matter of seconds. I’m only making this observation in order to shed light on why I never see new players on this anymore, and why is it getting more of a chore to finish a match then enjoy it.
Well the bad thing is that I get the noobs with 1 kill the entire match, or at least 4 to 5 quitters that never get filled back.
All other teams seam to be 149 and 150 knowing what they are doing.
I havent played in a while because of that, its grueling.
Play the holiday fiesta its actually a cool refresh.

Sounds to me like you are having a blast!
But in all seriousness, the REQ system exaggerates any small disparity between the teams and the games just snowball after that. Losing the initial fight and the subsequent control of the map has too strong of an effect on the outcome of the rest of the game and suddenly one team is fully REQd while the other team is using magnums; it just isn’t good competition.
I just assumed this was a trick question…
I personally never really found Warzone to be fun.
I imagine it was created like this-
“Hey, we should expand the max number of players in a single match, like BTB, but even bigger!!”
”That’s a great idea, fans have been wanting to have larger teams in matches”
“Then we should change it completely!!
What if we had really tough AI enemies worth tons of points?
Here’s the twist; no matter how much damage you and your team inflict, if an enemy player lands the final killing blow, they get all the points, and you get nothing!!”
”Wow that’s great!!
Oh!!!
We should make OP variants of powerful weapons and vehicles, but they’re really rare, and the better they are, the more rare!”
”That’s fantastic!
Then players that play a lot and get really good Will also have better weapons!!”
”And we could also add a play to win option, so if you’re REALLY sweaty, you can spend real money to get more of the OP weapons!”
”Will that be enough?
What if it’s still just a fun, social playlist and there aren’t enough sweaty players playing to ruin it.”
”That’s easy- we add goals with rewards for players that require playing Warzone!
And if that isn’t enough, we can ruin the joke of a ‘clan’ system we already disappointed the community with, by adding rewards the clan has to earn together.”
”I get it!!
Then we make sure that the best way to complete their clan goals is to ruin the game type completely for the opponent by rushing them and trapping them at spawn, and then ignore the intended objectives and farming kills!!!”
”Wow, we’re geniuses!”
”I know! Although not quite at level of genius the campaign team is on…”
”Well if we keep coming up with gold like this, it’s only a matter of time…”
I contribute the decline in WarZone fun to be due to the overwhelming abundance of methods to take out vehicles and the plethora of DMRs and H2BRs. Vehicles are just large slow easy kills at this point- spawning a Scorpion (or any vehicle) and moving it further than 10 meters from a home base feels like a death sentence.
DMRs and H2BRs are far too easy to use at mid-long range and now that the bulk of WarZone players have them they are ubiquitous to at REQ 5.
WZ was a fun idea at the start, but it was kind of a game mode that was always geared toward larger teams, for better or for worse, and that it was only going to trend that way once the REQ pool expanded and the Achillies armor became a thing.
As a solo player, I never liked Warzone 6 months after launch or so, for the above reason and the fact that it exists partially to push microtransactions. There just became a point where unless you were a masochist, you couldn’t play Warzone as a solo player because of the stupidity of your teammates, or the farming of the opposing team. That being said, I didn’t mind the inclusion of it in the game, because it was pretty cool for people that liked to squad up, I just learned quickly that it wasn’t for me. I was also disappointed that it put BTB on the back burner, with no BTB on launch and only community maps afterward.
I wouldn’t hate it if it returned for Infinite, and again, would probably play it on launch. It just needs a few tweaks, and a little love spread to other parts of Halo.
New and lower ranked players have a strong disadvantage in WZ. Because to get the vehicles and power weapons you have to level up and earn RP to get those packs. I don’t play a lot of WZ and when I do I have a min of 50 of pretty much any power weapon and most I have over 100. I have well over more than 25 of every vehicle. So I can pull anything I need or want. If you like WZ and are a lower level, you are limited in what you can even req out you may only have 1 wasp. Do you want to pull it out knowing I have 100 Spartan lasers? At this point 343 should allow new players the option to have all load out weapons unlocked and then let them choose from cosmetic, weapon/vehicle, or random packs. Maybe make the random packs be a better value overall, but if you play arena you may prefer the cosmetic items. If you prefer WZ you may perfer to spend a bit more RP and know you are getting something that will help you in WZ. At this point, in the age of the game, having load out weapons unlocked isn’t really going to hurt players that have everything unlocked.
Call me crazy but, Warzone isn’t that unfair to new players if they are good. A friend of mine The Warzone Pro started a new account and jumped into Warzone with no reqs. He plays with people at his rank and does just fine. I think people just play too aggresively with reqs and die quickly.

I just know the struggle my friends have had while playing with me. I often would pull out a vehicle and give then during a game. I was forever getting H2BR’s out for them, since they are free for me, and one of the last things most people unlock.
Went back and looked at my service record to check last time I played Warzone and Warzone Assault. Haven’t played Warzone since June of this year (final push for Achilles helmet) and haven’t played Assault since October of this year. Dropped off playing Warzone to mostly focus on Team Arena/HCS as that became more of an interest of mine. And Assault got to the point that matches were consistently out of balance, probably what I get for playing solo.
I’ve had a bit of an itch to play Warzone lately so maybe I’ll give it a go this weekend. I do enjoy a chill game of Firefight every now and then. Warzone is a really cool idea, and took a lot of creativity with the weapons, vehicles, and so on. I think for there to be more longevity and closer matches, it needs some balance tweaking. Some of the maps are clearly imbalanced. Like Attack on Sanctum. If I remember, red team gets the good base and blue team gets the base it’s easy to get trapped in.
Obviously I don’t expect any tweaks to be made to Halo 5 at this point and resources are better directed towards Infinite, but if Warzone makes a comeback in Infinite, hopefully some changes are made.

The specific criticism of Warzone for having unequal starts that inherently disadvantage new players, is an entirely separate thing from the discussion of whether or not players can potentially overcome those disadvantages. Of course it’s possible for good players to overcome disadvantages (and by the way, most new players aren’t good players), but the point is that Warzone puts them at a disadvantage at all in the first place, which is not good.

New players should match other new players…

That would be nice if they did. But I still prefer game modes with equal starts, because unlike Warzone, those don’t need new players to match with other new players just to even out the inherent disadvantages of being a new player (which, in Warzone, are separate from, and in addition to, any disadvantage there may be from lacking skill due to inexperience).
Also, if the matchmaking system had tighter restrictions to make new players match with other new players than it already does, that might exacerbate any population issues. Depending on how far it wants to go to smooth out the disadvantages of not having any reqs, which could be as simple as player A using a battle rifle against player B who can only use the pistol/assault rifle, the matchmaking system may have to be very restrictive in who it matches. I could see that leading to situations where new players can’t even find a match, especially when it gets later in the game’s lifespan. But it seems fine the way it is for game modes that have equal starts.

I agree but, wouldn’t player B win since the BR is complete trash?
Same bland old boss fights
