Why wait until a month in to announce ranks?

I still have faith that 343i has developed a ranking system for Halo 4. However as launch day rapidly approaches I am confused as to why they would wait so long to reveal the news as it seems the news would help with preorders. Do
you guys think they are waiting till its finalized or are they waiting because it is thier last big reveal before launch?

When they do reveal the news will it be in a Bulletin or at New York Comic-con or where? As far as I am concerned
thier extreme silence on the issue is an indication that ranks are in, but it would be nice to finally hear the news so we can breath a sigh of relief.

Sadly we have no clue. The more I don’t hear about a ranking system, the more I fear that matchmaking will be exactly like Reach’s, and I will be able to farm kills in Objective all day.

Because they know we won’t like it and it really is a deal breaker for some players.

Me? I will just stat on everyone if there aren’t any ranks so really, if you don’t want them, you’re only hurting yourself.

I don’t think they see it to be that important to be honest.

It’s not something that needs a big reveal, although it would be nice if they shed some light on it.

I thought I heard someone say that they plan on releasing the details of the Ranking system a week before release.

They’re waiting because you folks that care so much about numbers make them laugh.

Yup. The HUGE reveal of the ranking system.

Frankie strides onstage in a black turtleneck and gestures to the screen.

“FIFTY!!”

The screen lights up with yellow block letters. People cheer. Women faint. Men throw their hats.

“Twenty five?!” Frankie bellows. The crowd cries out in jubilation.

“FourTEEN.” Frankie flexes his muscles, hissing the words into the face of a child, as the crowd cries out in terror.

“Fifty…ONE.”

The planet Earth falls silent for a moment.

Then, slow, building applause. Frankie wipes his brow, and walks stage left. Lingering a moment, he raises one fist in defiance to the rules of logic and restrictions.

He raises a fist to GOD HIMSELF.

And God smiles down, knowing that ranks are in Halo 4.

They’ve finally done it.

Ranks. Numbers. Truth.

AMERICA.

The point I’m trying to make is that rank systems really aren’t that damn exciting, next to Giant Robots and Superheroes in strength enhancing suits, fighting aliens over galactic super weapons.

If you care, good for you, but I’d much rather see a reveal of new maps, vehicles, and game modes.

As long as the ranking system works, I don’t care.

its clever marketing…the strongest urge to buy a game that you want is about 1 week before release, and the ranking system is there ace in the hole, if they release details of an epic ranking system around this time people are gonna throw their money at them.

because either it isn’t finnished or they want as many sales as possible…

I’m thinking it’s the first part, and then they have to stick to a set schedule, and that’s when they happen to have it set. Also, they could be waiting until they’re ready to show off Waypoint’s latest update and features to fully show off the ranking system.

that too, i guess we can aspect to see it announced at the same time this site gets its overhaul.

Because they’ve got more things to announce so far. I’m sure they’ll announce the ranking system sooner or later.

I’m sure they’ll put something of the sort in halo 4. But probably its own gametype. Just my opinion though

You guys make me laugh. You actually think that a ranking system is what drives pre-orders across the world!

There are for more unique selling points which drive pre-orders, which include new features, new gameplay types, new technological advances etc. I doubt that anyone outside of these forums is going to pre-order Halo 4 because of how many times they can rank up online or how well they will be matched with opponents.

The amount of people that create a billion threads each day about the ranking system? I can see why.

You don’t think these threads would stop popping up if we knew anything more about the ranking system than “we have one?”

lol made me laugh,
but I dont agree with your microscopic writing.
Exciting for you…remember that, they arent that exciting FOR YOU.

It would lessen the number of threads.

If they’re going to do this skill-based rank thing at all, it’s most likely that it will closely resemble the Reach Arena thing with some sort of permanent recognition. For example, if you were Onyx last season it would show up somehow but your rank would still reset. Over time you would acquire a number of these indicators that would prove that you are a consistent winner and, therefore, should be worshiped.

Even if I’m completely wrong, which is likely, whatever it is, no matter how well it may work, no matter how accurate it may potentially be, no one that cares will like it because it won’t be the Halo 3 1-50 system. It’s going to be DOA and that’s why we won’t hear about it until 15 minutes before release.

No it wouldn’t. 343 says nothing about Ranking System and a few dozen threads are seen on the Forums each week. 343 gives us information about the Ranking System and the Forums explode in joy and anger.

People screaming “Bravo!” while other people scream “Refund!”

I’d personally like to avoid that as long as possible, but my best bet would be that they will announce the Ranking System or Multiplayer System shortly after the game going Gold.
