Why video game movies are still struggling?

With DC and Marvel continue having ongoing success in both movies and tv series, why video game movies are still struggling to find a successful record? I thought the Sonic The Hedgehog movie and the Detective Pikachu movie serve as a great example of how to do video game movies right.

They usually fail for me because they try to condense an 8-10 hour game into an hour and a half movie or the story doesn’t transfer well to another medium without player input. I think that having a limited series works so much better than a movie and most streaming services are eating up IP’s left and right.

The only way I can see video game movies being successful is that they find someone who not only have experience in making movies, but also a fan. I am thinking like find someone who have the same skills like Kevin Feige, Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni have.

The tv series the Witcher has given me great hope for video game adaptions to TV shows.

Let’s hope that Halo follows that type of model. I think the biggest blocker is money and attracting good actors to consider playing the major roles in the show.

Big studios won’t take a chance on an IP without big name recognition. Everyone knows Sonic and Pikachu, even if they’re not super familiar with the games. Also, a Halo film would be expensive. Very. At least $100 millions. Even if every person what purchased the 8 million copies of Halo Infinite 343 means to sell AND brings a friend they might get half that budget back. Warcraft had a budget of 160mil, made 430mil and is STILL considered a flop and a blow to video game movies as a whole. It really is an uphill battle.

Lmao!! DC has no success, they’re struggling a lot right now with how they have a good thing going via the Snyder Verse only to scrap it and start others that aren’t successful. Now Marvel is successful cause they have good leadership with Kevin Feigy. DC needs to find it’s Kevin Feigy.

Now Video Game movies suck cause they don’t stick close to the source material like at all. Resident Evil Movies didn’t stick to the source material, the reboot didn’t etc. Developers aren’t even involved with them and that’s another reason they aren’t successful with video games movies.

Like what I have already said, I think they should find someone who have a similar skills like Kevin Feige, Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni have especially when it comes to video game movies.

The way Kevin Feige did with the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni did with The Mandalorian, this shows that they not only have experience in making movies and tv series, they are also fans of the properties. Personally, I think video game adaptations should take some inspirations from the Marvel Cinematic Universe and The Mandalorian especially if they want to make a really good video game movie.

I really can’t understand this.
The problem with video game movies is obvious, and the solution doesn’t seem difficult, so why do they keep making the same mistakes?
Don’t they look for feedback when the movies don’t sell as well as they hoped they would?

They try too hard to be overwhelmingly ‘nostalgic’ in a sense while trying to deploy an actual narrative, and most of the time, they do more of the prior than the latter.

The narratives are usually worse than the “nostalgic” parts of the movies, since they often deviate too far from the stories of the games.
However, trying to be nostalgic is almost as bad as that, as it usually ends up creating cheesy moments that aren’t charming to the people who played the games, nor to the people who have not played the games.
