I am hearing a lot of people saying this will and should happen. I am not sure how:
-
Zeta Halo has disappeared. The UNSC in general doesn’t know where they are. Neither do the Banished on the ring. There’s no way they could know.
-
They don’t have a Slipspace drive and made a big deal about not leaving the Ark. Be odd for them to let the Banished take it over now.
-
How would they exactly know about the top secret mission to kill Cortana? They aren’t part of the UNSC chain of command.
-
The story is about the mysteries of Zeta Halo. If they teleport Zeta to the Ark randomly then you’re playing Halo Wars 3 and it’s about the Ark. They should keep these stories separate.
-
They spent ages setting up the small band of heroes. Why suddenly escalate the story by having the Spirit of Fire swoop in and save the day. You’d have too many characters dumped onto the story. Cutter, Isabel, Red Team, maybe Anders; that’s a lot of baggage. Plus it would undercut our heroes efforts if they and Red Team save the day. It’s a Master Chief story it should be about him saving the day not a random UNSC carrier using brute force.
-
Why wouldn’t those Dreadnoughts destroy an unshielded carrier a third the size of the Infinity? It was bad enough in HW2 but they’ve actually established it only takes four minutes to kill a UNSC capital ship; so it would be obviously dumb if they pulled that again.
-
The ring being lost is probably a big plot point as it’s keeps a veil over the rest of the galaxy. If news comes in they would have to let us know and it feels too early for that.

Halo Wars 2 was not a good story. Ship arrives. Ape bad. Send message for help. A game which never bothers to explain why the Villains are attacking or what they want. Doesn’t explain how the SoF got to the Ark. It really is just a slog with some pretty cutscenes sprinkled in. Why would I want to see any of them over the Arbiter showing up with Shadow of Intent?

The sales of HW2 are not good. Didn’t bring a lot of money to Microsoft.Maybe there are no new games. But players like me still expect the legend to continue.
The Ferrets boarded the Spirit of Fire, which means that it has made contact with UNSC. As a ship with a complete military production line, this will greatly improve the combat capability of UNSC on Zeta Halo. Then the Banished who stayed in the ark were disgusted by Atriox. Maybe they would betray him.

But I want my Cutter ODST spam.

Yeah the Banished wouldn’t last against his triple gun ship Pelicans.
I would at least want a resolution to the story beat the game set up. What happened to the brand spanking new Halo they created just so they could get a message for help out? Anders is still stranded on that Halo, or maybe not considering how much time has passed since then. They don’t have to bring the Halo Wars crew into Infinite, I just want to know the results of the efforts we’ve seen.

There’d need to be more rumblings before any Banished would betray their Leader.
Oh yeah I know in Divine Wind the Ferrets tell them some state of the galaxy information. Only part way through audiobook myself but Iam annoyed there’s that Created tunnel vision where “oh yeah the UNSC been taken over by an AI including Earth; now let’s back to this super urgent mission”. Not going to you know, dwell on that a bit, what’s happened to your family, what are the machines doing to the people, how the UEG doing; nothing? I’ll be annoyed if they tell the SoF crew and they don’t make a bigger deal of that. Your country has been taken over by machines. Retcon or no it should really shock these characters at this point in time.
The SoF showing up made sense when you going to have a “Pegasus this is Galactica actual moment”. Not, the Galactica has been blown up and now this other ships going to rock up and we’ll handwave it not getting immediately shot down. It would be too silly if either SoF wasn’t attacked or it won that fight.
But it’s a heroic story which is meant to focus on the Chief not Hearts of Iron IV. The Spirit of Fire deploying a UNSC army would really only make sense as an Endgame way of escalating things. It would be odd to pivot to Cutter being in charge of a conventional war and Chief taking orders.
Also, there is no way the Chief is not going to get challenged over keeping a copy of Cortana around. There’s a good reason he’s only got the Pilot to argue with. He’s probably going to be kept away from any kind of military hierarchy for a very good long while. Once they have Isabel or any other AI there’s no practical reason to keep the Weapon due to the threat she poses. Remember the plan was the Weapon would self delete. The UNSC did not want a Cortana 2.0.
There was talk of some spin off games although I had heard there were no plans for Halo Wars 3.
Anders - Probably a comic. If the Created and Cortana are gone she’s just floating on an empty ring until somebody picks her up. So, I don’t know, get the activation index and flies it somewhere?
Spirit of Fire - They’re probably going to roll this into the book series now that the Ferrets are with the SoF. So that author taking over the battles on the Ark with Voridus and Co is probably what we’ll get. Atriox and the fate of the Banished is being set up as a very personal struggle with the Chief. His AI girlfriend did go blow their planet up and Atriox destroyed the Infinity and meant Chief couldn’t save Cortana. Chief will be the guy to beat Atriox and the Banished.
I remember seeing the ending to HW2 and Anders walking around on the Halo when a Guardian shows up, and being somewhat intrigued and excited to see how this was going to lead back into the main story. Sadly it does seem that the Banished were really the only thing picked up from HW2, and after the backlash over H5’s story, there was going to be some shifting of story and some cuts somewhere.
Admittedly, I am not at all knowledgeable of the novels/comics, so any extended universe information I am not aware of. Though, with Atriox being able to go from the Ark to the Infinity, the possibility of the Spirit of Fire going places is there, but unless I see it in any official release i’m not holding my breath.
You should look up some of the concept art. Originally the Prometheans led by the Warden and a Guardian were meant to arrive on the Ark. You have images of them fighting armies of Banished and Red Team. Plus the Guardian shooting lasers at Warrhogs. This is almost certainly what that ending was supposed to imply. Instead they went with the Flood.
In hindsight, this is probably because they’d made the decision with Infinite to retcon the Cortana AI rebellion story out; so instead we got a random Banished campaign fighting Flood wbecause reasons. If they had done the Prometheans then it probably would have more directly followed on from the Halo Wars 2 campaign.
Isabel herself is a logistics AI, not even a real ship AI, with limited auxiliary effect.
And I think Cortana’s situation has something to do with the Gravemind and Domain. The wrong judgment of peace has led to many tragedies. Weapons have no such problem. Her effectiveness in action makes her enough to be trusted.
The arrival of SOF is a good opportunity to add a large number of new vehicles to the game.Carter set target points for players, airdrop heavy vehicles and ODST. I think it’s good
Yeah but the UNSC, Laskey no less, very clearly only wanted The Weapon to do this task and destroy her. It’s being established that she’s incredibly dangerous and that the idea of Cortana coming back is something they were afraid of. Hence the self deletion routine. Chief is acting on his own initiative but he is very much going against orders here. If Laskey was okay with that, why would a stranger be like “oh well she’s obviously a good AI; it’s all good.” It’s been set up as a future conflict so I just can’t see them throwing Cutter under the bus like that or him magically being okay with it. Why set up a conflict if Cutters okay with it?
Isabel did pretty well for a logistics AI. I don’t think you could make the case that the Weapon is indispensable to humanities war at this point. She is just another Smart AI and whilst we the player know that them being a team is good and it will all work out; the UNSC won’t be acting on that assumption.
I don’t even know where Roland has gone. He was not mentioned at all.
You’re right.
The distrust of AI is really worrying
I think they’re more directly concerned with Cortana herself rather than Smart AI generally. That seems to be the focus. Apart from the Leonidas cutscene you’d be forgiven for thinking Cortana was the only Rogue AI and it’s not very clear at all what the deal is with that.
I think there will be some hand waving regarding this. Yes, really there should be a whole Geth Quarian style thing where the Humans and AI sort all this out. But I think they’ll side step it, certainly in the games. Oh we use higher level security to keep tabs on these Smart AI and stop them getting out of line. I don’t think they would go as dark as the Animatrix where they kill all their Smart AI. I mean, in real life they absolutely would if the AI took over and killed millions of people. I reckon Roland would still have been in place but yeah it’s odd he didn’t get an audio log mention that I can recall. They were still working together post Halo 5.
Who’s related to Forge?! If your talking about Veta Lopez, then no. Rion Forge is related, but has nothing to do with the Ferrets.
