Why the space tether?

It’s been bugging me for a while now. Why would they try to squeeze hundreds of cadets into a dozen space elevator rides when the UNSC probably knows the Covenant will destroy the tether? Instead they could have sent in Pelicans for the evacuation, which in my opinion would save more cadets.

First off what would they do if that deema chick made it to the top then where would she go you know? Whats at the top is still on my mind but you made a valid point.

lol i thought exactly the same :stuck_out_tongue:

FUD is at the very start of the human covenant war. Couple that to the fact that no there would have known what the hell was attacking them so they wouldn’t think they would know.

It was the fastest and nearest transport near the Academy. If you remember establishing shot the Academy it’s in the middle of a forest no other building’s are in site.

It was one of those actiony moments to be honest, yes, canon wise, they knew it was going to be blown up, but from a viewers perspective, that was amazing to watch.

Plus the bodies falling really added some effect to how in-depth the series was.

But against the Covenant, would be the worst idea. In fact I think that using the a space elevator for an evacuation against an enemy attack is a bad move when they know that there’s a chance that they would destroy the tether. You’d think they would have some sort of backup plan when it comes to the Covenant right?

Haha I agree though that was amazing CGI for a web-series . Michael Bay can suck it

This is really early in the fight against the Covenant. I doubt they’ve formulated a proper strategy at this point. Their only thought at that moment was to evacuate the cadets to the waiting ships in orbit.

Another reason? It looks good when the tether goes “boom”.

The covanant ships looked cloaked to me. Not only that, but obviously the space elevator was more capable of evacuating people faster then calling in a fuckload of pelicans.

Why was Deema sent to the top? Whats at the top? You know like what was the big emphasis on people jumping over people to get in that elevator.

Nope you seem to be forgetting this is first contact with the covenant with the public. Yes the orbital tether was a bad idea but its better to do something then twiddling your thumbs will all the cadets just wandering around as a battle is incoming. As for the pelican’s the planet (From contact harvest) it wasn’t very big on military as it was a farming planet and getting military into the system was a big ask for the parliament at that time and the only real military it had at the time was colonial marines (In training) .

Watch the tongue, but yeah I get it. Please go easy on this kid Mods he didn’t know.

If no sarcasm, I would say there was a UNSC starship waiting at the top which in my opinion, would probably be destroyed by the Covenant fleet if the Orbital Defense Platforms already had their hulls vaporised .

Chances are theres a ship up there since most of them dont dock in atmosphere.

Because it was more dramatic to see the space elevator blown up than watch a pelican shot out of sky

Okay if you want an honest proper answer it’s quite simple.

first: Pelicans for whatever reason are capable of atmospheric exit and entrance off world. But there were absolutely no Pelicans on base nor any nearby.

Second: Pelicans can only house around AT MOST 10(seated)-15(standing)(30 if carrying a troop deployment pod) people. For a school with HUNDREDS of cadets you would need at least 30-40 pelicans. This is simple logistics in action.

third: The covenant were not really known, their tactics and actions were still very much a mystery, they definitely destroyed the platform at the top of the orbital tether (which again means no pelicans).

fourth: Let’s not forget that they can be detected before they actually exit from slip space. (Which is why the alarms went off) At this time the Insurectionists were using stolen UNSC battleships so it could easily have been assumed to be a human fleet.

Fifth: Covenant warships have precise slip space technology in comparison to human slip space navigation that can still leave them millions of miles Off course, allowing them to slip space in directly above the platform while they were evacuating the cadets.

Sixth: Evacuation follows procedures, Most of UNSC at this time, again, didn’t know what covenant were, so therefore hostile detections from sudden attack calls up an evacuation order, taking #5 into account they will follow the best cours of action not knowing that the platform above in a matter of seconds would be taken out and escape immediately cut off.

The forces stationed at Corbulo didn’t know about the Covenant. During the early years, much of the UNSC didn’t know.

Anyway, the idea of a Space Elevator is to make trips into space quicker and easier than with a ship. It’s like there’s a space station that either has armaments or a docked ship to accomadate the cadets and Corbulo staff.

These are the sons and daughters of the UNSC’s elite. Darn tootin’ they get a space elevator! The Corbulo academy officer training experience is probably as luxurious as it can be for UNSC trainees.
