Just a quick question here. Why is the new automatic weapon called the Saw? usually UNSC weapons have practical names like Sniper Rifle, Rocket Launcher, Sticky Detonator.
Not complaining, just wondering. Name’s fine, just wondering what the purpose behind it is.
SAW is the designated acronym for Squad Automatic Weapon, which is given because of the purpose. A Squad Automatic Weapon is typically a light machine gun and is always used for the purpose of supportive fire.
To clarify, near all SAWs are light machine guns, but not all light machine guns are SAWs. The M249 of the U.S. military is a SAW, but a SAW is not always an M249.

Yeah, I googled it after I found out it was an acronym. My question’s pretty much answered.
