Why the motion tracker is so short in range.

The main reason is that everyone wanted CQC like Halo 2 so they did that making it shorter. The range might be shorter but at least you know where some one is above you or below at least.

Because 343 takes pro’s feedback, not us

Yeah that too. Which I find to make that they should take some casual players feed back. If they went to 20 meters which means you know what’s in front of 10 meters radius of 20M while the 18M is 9M in radius.

It’s mostly this. I read an interview where someone from 343 spoke about the fact that experienced players could tell where people likely were on the map because of the radar. Apparently they didn’t realize that if you have experience with the map you can guess where most people are without it too. The only thing that the shortened radar provides is that someone can sprint at you from behind and they will not show up on it in time for you to respond. That’s it.

Sorry cant find where but 343 did say it was because they noticed veteran players using it as a tool it was meant to be while new players ignored its existence. So to lower the gap they needed it to the point it might as well not be there. And no ammount of us saying fix it will undo this.

Think that was the same interview I read.

Radar indicates you whether enemies are above or below you by shading the red dot.

The casual players don’t use the radar is that so use to no radar at all like the vets. Those casual players might be players from cod who are use to do radar.

Yeah that’s what I’m saying.

I dont think thats how it works. Pretty sure radar expands 18m out from the center, the center being the player.

The radar is a bit bigger than 18m. It can detect past 18m, but it shows up on the rim of the radar. It’s an alright tool, takes time to get used too.

I might test it in forge see if it’s by radius because I think it is.

And this is how Halo 5 fails to deliver the game that Halo 5 customers want.

agreed. The radar is too short. Its hard to play defensively. Which is my preferred playstyle on halo

Radar is probably not something the pros wanted. They now that feeding information to players is not something that should be in competitive play. The only reason it’s at 18m is because 343i wanted some stupid compromise between casuals and competitive players, which is stupid because it lowers the skill gap. Radar should be removed from Team Arena and the HCS, and add an objective playlist for casuals with a 25m radar.

I just want a return to Halo 4’s motion tracker, it was pretty much perfect and gave great situational awareness. The Pro players they are catering to shouldn’t have more of a say than the community and most if not everyone I’ve talked to hates the tracker in Halo 5, myself included. It just borders useless and supplies too little information in too little a time frame. The more 343i pushes away from classic Halo the more backlash the community is going to give and the less that will be inclined to buy the game. I enjoy a lot of the changes but the new motion tracker is horrible and gives any random player sprinting around and charging more of an advantage than they deserve. Online always required you to pay attention to your enemy’s location on the tracker and made turning a corner a bit more of a fair fight. If they want to put it at 25m for all game-types that use the tracker I wouldn’t complain, but 18m is the point of having someone almost within shotgun range without you even being aware of it unless you have heard them firing off rounds.

I hate hate HATE! the small motion tracker/radar. It is absolutely useless in this game. By the time you realize someone is close to you, you are already dead. I believe that is a big reason some folks hate Spartan Charge. I love Spartan Charge and think it’s great. I catch peple off guard all the time. But even I sometimes get taking advantage of. By the time I notice a red dot pop up near by I’m already taking the shoulder charge because I did not have enough time to react. Keep it small for the pros only. Most of us want to play for fun. I’m certainly no pro nor do I ever care to be. I pay for entertainment and fun.

They should have split playlists, no radar for Team Arena, and 25m for Slayer. There, 2 separate playlists for comp and casual. Who would have thought it was that easy.

This was 343’s compromise of the normal radar most people want and the no radar that the competitive players want.

Now, instead of each side getting what they wanted (through separate default and competitive settings), now everyone gets a half -Yoinked!- version of what they wanted. Yippee.

I like to use my motion tracker frequently. It’s a very handy tool.

Unfortunately, “Pros” think it gives their prey too much of an edge. They apparently don’t get that such is the ENTIRE POINT.
