I have no idea why reach is hated on is it because there is no mc no arbiter it’s a great game but people don’t see it
Armor lock causes a lot of frustration, it was one of the chief concerns early on.
Reach to me is awesome and I prefer it over Halo 4. There was a lot of butthurt over the introduction of Armour abilities into halo as loadouts rather than map pickups. Like in any game, players worked out how to use these abilities for purposes other than what they were intended for. Jetpack was used to break map geometry and Armour lock had some pretty annoying features but we all worked out how to counter these in time. I was only only saying to a mate last night how nice it was for players to go into armour lock to give you time to reload. If you play smart armour lock just delays the opponents death by 5 seconds.
The introduction of Bloom was not liked by a lot of players either. Folks had to learn to time shots and just not mash the trigger. The speed of the Spartan and jump height had folks complaining too but they forgot that we were playing with different Spartans and not the MC.
This has been asked a great number of times, but I will provide as best an answer as I’m able.
Generally the major reasons for peoples “Dislike” of halo reach is the introduction of several new features that they didn’t approve of(For silly reasons really). One of the major ones was the addition of armor abilities to the game to replace the rather experimental equipment from Halo 3. Generally having a unlimited use active camo, Invincible armor lock, and somewhat map breaking jetpack etc. I really like armor abilities when they were introduced to Halo Reach myself and once people game them some time, people generally got used to them and understood how to use each one. The Armor abilities all had their ins and outs, choosing when and where to use them was a critical skill that took some time to learn. I think what people didn’t like most about them was the AA’s ability to turn the tide of battle, but that was really what they were meant to do. If you were at least decent at Halo reach, one thing you learned was to know when the proper time and place was to use your ability, such as using Sprint to get out of a losing fight and recharge your shield and turn things around on your opponent. Armor lock was an issue and found it annoying at first, but really I think the AA’s were not really as big of an issue as most people will make it out to be.
Next was the introduction of reticle bloom. One thing that a lot of the people who argue against reticle bloom forget that, except for Halo CE(and by extension CEA), all halo games to date have had bloom but reach was the first to visualize reticle bloom(which in actuality was something meant to be in Halo 3 initially but bungie ran out of time during Halo 3’s development before they could implement it). So really the hate over the reticle bloom was a pointless waste of time, people arguing about something that has always been there but never visualized until Halo Reach.
There were a few other minor issues(Run speed, jump height, Removal of the broken rifle and carbine, dual weilding removal, etc). Alot of the complaints I believe come from the Halo 3 crowd mostly when you read through peoples complaints in my experience. Halo Reach still stands as the last game from the golden age of halo, I wouldn’t be surprised if Halo Reach, Halo 3, 2 and CE are all still being played for many more years to come.
Thanks for explanation
The Armor Abilities was the BIGGEST reason why so many people hated Reach. It changed how Halo was played and it didn’t feel like Halo to many people.
most people i hear from now love the game. I have heard nothing but praise about reach.
Most of the people in my playgroup call this their favorite Halo, I haven’t ever run into someone who didn’t like it. I think some people tend to wax too romantic about it, actually. That said, would love a remaster/ port/ whatever. Maybe inject in to MCC. That would be nice.
Maybe becuase people weren’t willing to accept that Master Chief is not the only character in the universe
I think Reach was a little hated at launch due to it being Bungie’s last game and Halo 3 was left on a cliffhanger. Many didn’t really expect a Halo 4. I myself was thinking that Halo 3’s ending was a good way to end a franchise on a high note
I really liked the one-time use equipment from Halo 3 but I also never disliked armor abilities. I think Halo 2 and 3 were the best to me but Reach had the best multiplayer, that forge mode was amazing.
I liked Reach Personally
Reach is still my favourite Halo game overall
Love reach great game
most people who hate it probably started playing halo when 4 came out and it ruined the fan base

I agree. I think Halo 3 was a nice end for the Master Chief’s story and Reach tied everything up nicely through the games without relying on extended universe to explain things.
for me reach still the best of the best
Reach is still my favourite Halo game. Despite its flaws, I had the most fun playing it.
Because they ruined matchmaking OP. WHy in the heck do you thing we have a bunch of stupid jet packers now. THx a lot.
I loved reach, no competition.
