Why The Hate On Sprint

I keep hearing “WE WANT TO DISABLE SPRINT” from the pure Halo fanboys. What is the problem giving a guy/gal in an enhanced musculature exoskeleton suit the ability to sprint?

If you are shooting at them their sprint ability vanishes like the wind anyway.

Is it because it “wasn’t in other Halo games so shouldn’t be in future ones either”. If so then this isn’t Combat Evolving.

Soldiers, when under heavy fire, TACTICALLY RETREAT. If you can only retreat at a leisurely jog then it’s a bit silly.

Maybe that’s why I like Halo 4… You can actually play tactically now. Just wish the numerous bugs and glitches had already been stomped before it went gold.

If I wanted to experience people “tactically retreating” then I would either play a modern style FPS or join the service. I do not wish to do either. I wish to play a arena based sci-fi FPS called Halo.

Most people want the option to disable it for Customs because some gametypes might not work well with Sprint.

Legit. Spartans should be able to sprint…

Custom gametypes, duh

I’ve done both.

Regarding disabling it in custom games I have no problem with that at all. The problem I have are those saying it should be removed from the game FULL STOP. There are a lot more problems (vanishing weapons, instant spawning) that should get more attention than being able to sprint.

The problem I think is that the maps are just too darned big when you get spawned right across the map from the action. Nothing like wasting time jogging across the map to ruin a good game.

People say the changes are to combat games like COD but it seems more like Battlefield to me.

Because they can’t adapt to change

I get a head case award several times a day. Apparently, sprinting doesn’t stop me from killing people. I just don’t get it.

So not having sprint would make gameplay faster and more arena-styled?

Of all the acknowledged problems in this game, this is the one that warrants the least attention. Honestly, very rarely can I successfully sprint away from combat, and very rarely do people get away from me. Beatdowns that way are even harder, as you slow down when shot. When I see an enemy, my first reaction isn’t OMG RUN its to STAND AND FIGHT (that was the argument against it when it was first announced- everyone was going to jsut run away form each other). Honestly, its best function is to get form point A to point B, and reaching cover in a firefight. Theres nothing wrong with sprints.

Don’t see a problem with sprint really, fair enough have the option to turn it off in custom game but it ain’t a big deal online as it takes ppl a little bit to raise weapon after sprinting n by then iv killed em!!!

People hate the DMR because it’s dominant.

It’s dominant because maps are big.

Maps are big because of sprint.

That’s not it, we can adapt, but it was more fun without sprint.

You know, there is nothing wrong with sprinting per se, but it does have some side effects, especially in how Halo has always played out.

Because of sprinting, every map has turned into a big map. What people consider small now, used to be medium or even big. For example, just compare Midship(Halo 2) to the smallest map in Halo 4 (Haven). Most medium-sized maps were even smaller than Haven, like Lockout and Sanctuary. What was so good about these smaller maps, was that your individual skill was tested more than on bigger maps. Bigger maps require skill as well, but this is less about individual skill, and more about teamplay and positioning (who sees who first). And also, those small maps were so much fun, I can’t even compare a good map like Haven to such great maps like Midship or Lockout.

Sprinting also results in more chaos, because players can now cross a map within 2 seconds. So one moment you think you’re clear, only to get assassinated in the back by a guy who just dashed 20 yards in 1-2 seconds. You can adapt to this, but it does create a lot more chaos, as you can no longer control a part of the map. Sprinting makes it harder to predict certain stuff.

Something influenced by sprint as well is retreating. Retreating used to be about tactical positioning, knowing the map (escape route) and a bit of a psychological game between you and your enemy. For anyone who has played old Halos on Lockout/Midship, you’ll know all about the little jumps and to play with your enemy’s mind. Now with sprinting a lot of this has disappeared, as you just dash from away from danger to safety no time.

There is more stuff, but at the moment I can’t of them. But like I said, there is nothing wrong with sprint per se, but older Halos didn’t need it, since the maps were a lot smaller and the base speed of the players was faster (not sure about that last part). Halo 1/2/3 were so much fun, it would’ve been terrible if they included sprint in those games.
