Why the Halo 4 Grunt is fine

There are multiple threads saying the Halo 4 grunt model breaks canon, and I feel otherwise. So instead of constantly rewriting the same thing, I will make a more detailed description.

Okay, so, lets start off shall we?

The reason a lot of people dislike the Halo 4 grunt is because they claim it goes against the original design of what a grunt looks like, which would be an arthropod like creature with thick, dark, thorny skin. For reference, here is a picture depicting the grunt evolution through the different games.

-This also includes Master chief and Elite updates.

Now, notice the first two grunts. Their skin looks scaly, reptilian, and leathery. Even though you may not see this as an exoskeleton, there is NO definite look to an exoskeleton, therefore it CAN look like a reptile’s leathery, scaly skin… When some people say arthropod, they may think of a crab, lobster or a beetle. However, there are also arthropods such as caterpillars, mosquitoes and other insects that do not necessarily have a hard exoskeleton.

The real change took place from the shift between Halo 2 to Halo 3. They looked more darker, had more thorns and spikes on their arms, and looked more demonic. And then, people complained somewhat about these changes. But they got used to it I guess. And now, when the grunt design looks more like the original, some disagree with the changes and claim that they don’t look like arthropods. Tell me… do any of these look like they have the grunt’s Halo 3/Reach skin?

No, none of them look like they have the grunt’s skin, nor do they look exactly like each other. The only main differences between the Halo 4 grunt and the CE/2 grunt is the color of skin (which changed from 2 to 3 as well), feet (the toes changed), shape of head(maybe, we have only seen one angle) and armor (which always changes).

TL;DR In conclusion, the Halo 4 grunt looks more like the original grunt model as opposed to the halo 3/ Reach model. Why everyone acts like the reach model was the first and only design and only compares it to the 4 model, I have no idea. I would have thought people cared about the original design more…

Agreements or disagreements?

The only problem i have with the halo 4 grunt is that it IS different. Was there some kind of contagious Leprosy going on in the mating circles?

I don’t understand. It looks like a Grunt. Maybe I’m weird.

> I don’t understand. It looks like a Grunt. Maybe I’m weird.

yes, yes you are weird

> I don’t understand. It looks like a Grunt. Maybe I’m weird.

Yes, yes it does, and isn’t everyone?

> I don’t understand. It looks like a Grunt. Maybe I’m weird.

Normal is over rated.

Graphic’s wise, the grunt looks like what Bungie was going for, but was limited by software and hardware at the time of Halo CE, Halo 2, Halo 3, and Halo Reach. Yes the mouth looks a little different, the feet is a little different, but the skin looks right.

I like how the Grunts look more alien, specifically with their mouth exposed.

As long as they act like the Grunts we know,
I don’t care if it has an extra toe.

(It rhymes!)

They didn’t have the technology to make grunts look like what they were supposed to look like in Halo:CE and Halo 2.

two words “Shark Grunts”

I disagree. They’ve always had consistent features. A lighter/darker gray is not the same as changing it’s hard outer layer (Which likely has some sort of skin in certain areas, which I’ve admitted one o those posts you mention) to a reptilian dermis, which is designed to absorb sunlight, which they can’t due to their planet being so far away from their sun and clouded in Methane. NEw skin doesn’t make sense, it wouldn’t keep them warm enough to survive unless they generated their own heat via exoskeleton that keeps heat inside with a numb insulate outer layer, hinted at in Conatacy Harvest. And I’m explaining this in a basic way, the original post for the thread broke it down inanatomical position, protein deposits, an early mentioning of how hemoglobin would work in one versus the other, but I gave up on that because no everyone is a fluent in anatomy is me. So with these basic examples I’m trying to explain it in a language people can understand, and at this point I just think it comes down to choice. Yo wanna think everything’s fine, so be it, but I hope that by opposing our threads you’re doing so because you legitamtely have proof to counter EVERYTHING we’ve establishedi nour thread (Which isn’t evident here at all, nor do you mention the cellular differences or necessary components in a diet, etc) and aren’t just opposing us because you have nothing better to do. It’s not supposed to be this cryptic and this angry, I’ve never posted a complaint before because everything has sat well with me. I know you don’t know me irl, but I wouldn’t make this big of a deal if it didn’t break the canon.

But think what you want, if none of the evidence we’ve provided is good enough, you simply cannot understand and are a waste of time.

I really like the new grunts don’t have any science to back it up but honestly. If I never saw any of these pictures of the new grunts and I played halo 4 without knowing anything I would still probably instantly know that they were grunts right when I saw them.

i hate the elites new look more than i hate the grunts new look but i still hate both of the new designs

I punched off my fair share of breathers and the mouth looks similar. I think it looks better, and there is strong continuity. Anyone who says otherwise is likely just trying to find something to hate on.

You really don’t have to call somebody a waste of time just cause they don’t agree with your views yes you have lots of information backing your stance up. but we really don’t have to get into discussions about cellular structures over a game. yes there is a whole universe behind the game but its not like they made the grunts taller than elites or something. no matter how much science you put behind it you have to admit they are still instantly recognizable as grunts.

I just hope that gameplay really does have more priority over story because if the Grunts end up dying from a 2 feet fall, I’d be pretty disappointed.

We need this again. :stuck_out_tongue:

Here’s a reference I made.

So far, all you provided for me to prove wrong is their skin, and my OP is full of facts to support my side. Why I don’t go into depth about the lack of calcium and effects of lower/ less pure methane respiration is because there is no need to.

i don’t even.

LOL, agreed, also, I take my statement back about the mouth, it does look similar, but the head is a little larger, but I’m fine with that, other than the larger head, and a few differences in the suit design, it looks like a grunt to me.

Agreed, just because some one doesn’t agree with you doesn’t mean they’re a waste of time, plus I’m no scientist or any thing, but when it comes to creatures in video games that are alien in nature, I don’t care one bit about how it’s meant to look, as long as the Developers are happy. And if the Developers say the grunt has an extra toe so be it, grunts have an extra toe.

Halo 4 Grunt is definitely my favorite of all the games so far (from what I’ve seen).
