Why the game is no longer fun....

Ever since Reach hit the shelves, there has been complaining of how matchmaking is not as fun as it used to be and I believe I have figured out why…its not that the maps are.bad or the players are less skilled, its because there are so many people who take this game beyond a point of seriousness that makes it no longer fun to play. Now a days, all anyone is ever worried about is getting more and more kills. And crushing whoever they are against. I always hear complains of people who throw constant grenades but what about the times you just chunked a random grenade and got a random kill…that feeling of “wow, I can’t believe that worked” has now gone to cussing at the screen that some noob got a cheap kill. I mean seriously, mean always used to be told how its crazy than mean who play professional baseball can make millions of a children’s game. Well that’s what some have turned Halo into…a game where if you walk away needing a health pack then your yelling at the players. Or if you walk away with the win but you have the majority of the kills you report the other players for having insignificant skill. I don’t understand it. I believe that if you want to make this game fun again, you stop going for power weapons and win using an AR…or win using a plasma pistol/DMR. I know some are going to think im dumb or that my opinion isn’t worth anything…but IDC. I’m not saying just stop being competitive all together but try playing where all you use is the AR for a day with some other guys who just use an AR…and dont look at it as easy kills if you used a DMR and you see what I mean…

The minute developers started including visual representations of skill levels it instantly turned video games into a serious business for a select base individual who I can l best sum up as “If Shoots and Ladders had a medal for most slides slid, there would be idiot in Chaps claiming a record of most ladders climbed.”

For that sir, I thank you for you see the point I was making.

Put a smile on this face  Well played.

To an extent this has become an divisive issue for gaming in general. Hardcore rant and demand while the casual fill the corporate pockets.

I’m hoping 343i streamline matchmaking playlists and settings that Halo will once again become the dominant xbox live game. Essentially I see the launch gametypes, playlists and settings being the win or lose multiplayer numbers.

I also see quick and well crafted matchmaking updates monthly or fortnightly being the cornerstone to retaining players from many of these sub-communities.

Gamers unfortunately aren’t going to change and the demographics are so widespread now developers have to cater to differing segments and subjective wants.

You can’t control the will of others. They will do what they want, complain about what they want, and then others will ignore it and keep playing. In my recent history I have a match which pitted me against a group of 5 inheritors or just short ranks and surprisingly, I got a bunch of individuals who actually knew what they were doing besides one Brigadier Grade 1 who had a .63 k/d and I bluntly said, “guys, don’t even try to win this match, just go out, have a blast, and we’ll see who really wins at the end of it.” Funny how the other players laughed and said they always intended to do that.

End of the match, the scoreboard said we lost, but the conversation and fun kills we pulled off is something I’m going to put in my file share and the raging we heard when a grenade came out of no where and they screamed, “WHO THREW THAT YOU? SOMEONE HAD TO YOU NOOB! YOU KILLED ME!” and none of his teammates would own up to it because I knew a buddy of mine had already thrown it…

Your are correct OP. Gamers have chosen being serious is more important then having a blast. For the record, I still don’t consider that match a loss.

I would appreciate if everyone would take the time to read this.

Simply, If your not enjoying the game then maybe you shouldn’t play it. All that really matters at the end of the day is how much enjoyment you got out of it. People need to seriously take the stats less seriously. Just because you go negative and lose a match doesn’t mean you should abuse your teammates calling them noobs etc… I know the game can get frustrating but before you abuse others think, Would I like someone to do this to me?

So everyone reading this, ask yourself, Am I really enjoying this game? And if not try finding a way to make the game fun for yourself and the others around you.

I do understand that some peoples enjoyment is winning and having good stats. But please try not to blame and harass others for doing bad.

People will disagree with what I am saying and I am okay with that. Im open to hearing all opinions and perspectives.

And see I was beginning to think that there was no more guys out there who even remotely thought like I did. I played that challenge today with AR in hand and had a blast. You could barely hear a conversation with so many made explosions and AR madness. Sure some say, “I would have loved to play so I could rape and inaccurate AR with my DMR” but it wasn’t about that…you were so lost in the game and action of playing and trying to out think another AR user that it was all out war and all out fun…that’s Halo…finding fun in all out hell. That’s the matches that get put in my books as the best ones.

And you know, as I look at the service records of you guys, I see I am the only one here with a negative k/d and a low bpr and it reminds me of a time when a guy on these forums told me I had no right to speak on a particular subject because I had a pathetic negative k/d but what many dont know is that the reason for that is my best friend has a ps3…he comes to my house to play halo. He loves the game but sucks royally at it. And I don’t care that he goes 8 and 15. He has fun and he gets a break from his life to sit down and laugh at the guys who get such a kick outta taping him when he is so horrible at the game. I love seeing it. So…no I don’t have a high k/d but I guess my profile is used for more fun that anything else, and for that I am proud.

I really agree with your perspective of playing Halo.

I’ve got no idea how my K/D is positive. It might be from Infection or something.

It’s people like you and your teammates who I’d like to always play with. Halo is so much more fun with a group of people who know how to laugh and enjoy the game for what it is: a game.

The complete utter truth to today’s gaming compared to 15 years ago, the aggression was mainly PC. I wonder whats worse though, PC competition or console. O.O

Excuse me for wanting to win, I’m pretty competitive in Halo, but it is all for fun.

I’m usually mute banned anyway, you won’t have to hear me, but that is just because the players that I am with.

Damn…I feel kinda sorry for you…:frowning:

I mean, what’s wrong with playing competitively???

This is the second or third time. I wish I knew when I am and when I’m not. I always miss out if another team is trash talking.

Life is a box of chocolates. If you spend so much time trying to eat them all, you’ll miss the richness found only when you delicately enjoy each and every one.

I’m not saying there is a thing wrong with playing competitively…just don’t go over board with it. I think when you stop looking at things as “well that’s an easy kill” and start looking at them as “I can’t believe I pull that crap off” then the game brings a whole new level to the playing field. Many in this game say clanning is lame and is stupid unless your in an MLG clan. But, since I joined my clan, I have found more fun in reach then i have playing solo. Sure, we win and we loose but you never hear us raging. Most times were barely focused on the game. But as i said in another thread, i get my fun out of out smarting my opponent, not out powering them. If i killed you with a ricocheted grenade and a pistol shot, then im more on top the world then if i had sniped you. I just think if most would just treat it as a game, then you won’t have to see “play with friends” in order to have fun…youll be able to have fun with all players on all variants.
