I believe (and please, correct me if I’m wrong) the reason for the decrease in speed in the past was that chasing the flag carrier would eventually become a lost cause otherwise due to the limited range of weapons. This is no longer a concern due to the presence of sprint and smart scope. So, why slow down the flag carrier at this point?
I don’t understand.
Was the flag carrier even slowed down in Halo 4? I am sure it was in Halo 3 (which was why you had flag juggling) but in Halo 4? I don’t think it was. So what spurred on this topic?
Is the flag carrier in halo 5 reduced? I THINK i heard that flag juggling was making a return so it would make sense if it was somehow reduced speed. Either way please clarify.
Because the flag carrier can use trusterpacks.

Check the update from yesterday; flag carrier moves at 80% speed.

No they can’t. They have to let go.

Okay, I see it. They state why. Because flag juggling.
Honestly, the return of flag-on-base is good. I hated it before but after playing a lot of Halo 4 on MCC with some of the genius’ there its really disheartening that u can have the flag so close but they will still score anyway.
So now flag juggling is almost necessary to a degree? Oh, splendid. Lol.
You can thruster with the flag he just dropped it because he had moment when he tossed the flag (causing the flag to go farther). You can still thrust with it.

Well sure, but the purpose of flag juggling is to move closer to full speed. It’s kind of running around the point: why not just cut out the middle man and move at full speed?

Because then you’d need a marker over your head at all times like in H4, and apparently people didn’t like that.
Here, you move with the flag slower but with no flag marker… Or you move quickly and telegraph the flag’s position the entire way by constantly dropping and picking it back up. Trade-off: Move with stealth, or risk moving quickly and letting everyone know where the flag’s going.
There was always a decreased movement speed for flag carriers, except for in H4 which was received poorly. That’s why flag juggling became a thing, because it allowed you to move it faster. Did you think people were tossing it for no reason?
what worries me most is that they removed the insta melee kill with the flag

dont be worried because a couple shots with a melee will still kill pretty quick.
Well, if I am slowed down now while carrying the flag and can’t one hit with it, I hope that I don’t have a -Yoinking!- waypoint over my head for the enemy team, or else juggling is a must. Holding onto the flag and sneaking away with it is fun.

I’m aware. If you could have bothered reading my post, however, you’ll see that I asked why that even happened in the first place, proposed an explanation, and explained why that’s no longer necessary in Halo 5.

I know they added the magnum, so at least they balanced it with making the flag non insta melee kill. If you weren’t able to have gun while you hold the flag, the insta kill is necessary. But not with the magnum.

I read what you said. There was sprint in Halo 4 as well, granted as an AA. Point still being, having a FC move at the same pace was all around badly received by the competitive community, and the playlist withered and died. Especially when armed with a weapon, there needs to be some risk so everyone isn’t just a flag hero.
Really? I hadn’t heard.
