Now, maybe it’s just me, but I’ve noticed something a little…odd about our latest installment.
The Reticle placement.
If you look across all the Halo Games( excluding wars because well that was an RTS) you’ll notice that the aiming reticle is -not- exactly centered on the screen. I’s lower. by quite a bit, in fact.
But in 5, it’s now in the exact center of the screen.
Now, I’m not trying to complain about this, despite it really throwing my aim off for the first week or so, but… Why?
The reticle position has remained largely the same for over a decade, so much so that we as players have subconsciously gotten used to it being in that position. And suddenly it’s significantly higher.
Is it due to the smart scope being implemented? If so, it seems a poor reason for such a thing, as the reticle placement would hardly matter, I’d think.
I’m not really sure why it was changed, but Halo 1 had it the same way while all the other Halo’s had it lower down. Personally I prefer the Halo 1/5 placement but it honestly makes no difference.
how does this throw off aim exactly? ive played halo since halo 2 and started really getting into multiplayer on reach and i dont understand how people have such a problem with it? its not the games fault because i have no problem aiming like i used too. the people complaining about it in actuality is there fault their aiming is bad

Well, consider when you’ve gotten used to the reticle being in one spot for over ten years. When it changes position, it’s going to throw off your aim a litte, if only in regards to body shot vs. headshot amounts.
it’s less an issue with aiming in general, but I’ve had to adjust where I leave my vertical looking area to compensate.
It’s not a bad thing, either, it’s just odd to me.
I didn’t noticed either but now that I looked up a comparison it is strange although I still never felt the difference or am able to see how it really changes anything
If this isn’t enough… I can say is that the reticle is always supposed to be centered and maybe Bungie just did it wrong. However, we got used to it that we just didnt care that way. And now, that the reticle is placed upright we aren’t used to it because some of you guys dont play any other FPS game besides Halo.

but ive never noticed it? its gotta be like a tiny, tiny, tiny, and i mean TINY fraction of a inch
It is because of Smart-Link. When you are able to scope with every weapon watch the animation to get the weapon scoped. Having it lower would work against smartlink for every weapon.

Done
Edit:
I just pasted his links, don’t hate because the Halo 3 is more Halo CE
¯_(ツ)_/¯
…well, yeah, I suppose it could be, Destiny is much the same way with a lower reticle.
But they also have an ADS feature and it doesn’t interfere with it?
Before the hate train comes, because it always does, let’s be honest. I don’t dislike, or attribute this to any lack of percieved skill.
It’s just weird, and I’m curious as to why it was changed back to a center screen position. 343’s first standalone game, Halo 4, also had a lowered reticle, so why the unnecessary change?
how does that affect your aim? It’s there it can’t affect your aim, how should it? Do you have to imagine where the reticle of a previous title is in the midst of a gunfight?
