Why the Anger at 343?

I’ve noticed that people all around the forums are disappointed in 343 being the next maker of the Halo franchise. At first I was slightly hesitent at 343 taking command over such a marvelous series such as Halo. Though 343 had done well on Halo so far, I wondered how they would do being the head of the operation and felt sad that Bungie would not be joining Halo in its step towards the next generation of games. On the morning of E3, I was excited to see which game would be Halo, the “Super Secret Remake” or the “Super Secret Sequel.” Midway through, I was immensely excited at Halo CE: Anniversary. At the end, seeing Halo 4 made me so excited that me and my friend started screaming out of happiness. After seeing the amazing details that 343 is slowly unraveling to us every week leading up to Halofest has made me realize that they are doing much better without Bungie. Although Bungie was a great company, I feel that 343 is doing much better. Bungie has been a bit more of a letdown with playlists and listening to trolls on their forums (Seriously? Changing so many gametypes just because people beaten by armor lock whine about it?). I think that some are being awfully resentful towards 343.

Im not. I have complete trust in 343i. They seem like THE perfect company and only company to be able to love Halo as much as the rest of the Halo fanbase.

People are worried because 343i is an unkown property in terms of game development.

Some people love to jump to irrational conclusions because of that.

The truth is that 343i and the Waypoint team have handeled everything they’ve touched exceptionally well. So far, they have given us no reason to doubt them.

I have faith

Thank you! If Bungie was as dedicated to Halo, they would find some way to stay in the loop or take part in SOME development.

> Thank you! If Bungie was as dedicated to Halo, they would find some way to stay in the loop or take part in SOME development.

Bungie has been working on their new next IP for some time now according to sources, and im guessing they now have the full might of their team working on it. They have done a wonderful job with Halo even if Reach wasnt what I wanted to be the “culmination of Halo” and I think the disrespect has been to Bungie on these forums not 343i.

I have not seen much anger towards 343i, but people will be skeptical when they have never produced a Halo game before (343 Industries anyways) its only natural. They are doing alot right do far with HCEA and the TU though, I am hopeful for the future of Halo =)

Yeah. 343 hasn’t done anything yet but release some DLC. They’ve done okay with that so far but with Halo 4, there’s going to be natural skepticism. Not because 343 has done anything wrong, but because they have not created a game yet. However, there are still people from Bungie that are remaining with 343 so the legacy isn’t leaving with Bungie completely.

I haven’t really seen hatred on these forums toward 343, more like confusion and wonder. On Bnet however I’ve seen some threads that were openly like “Bungie don’t abandon us!” and “343 can suck it!” which I thought was incredibly stupid and disrespectful.
Here’s my list on why 343 should not be disliked:

  1. Let’s face it Bungie has been lacking in the maintenance of Reach lately

  2. Bungie has already dropped Halo as a franchise and want to move on to new things

  3. 343 is keeping Halo going so without 343 Halo would’ve died at Halo Reach

  4. 343 has already done more for Reach than Bungie has with the promise of a title update (Not that Bungie hasn’t done a great deal for it.)

  5. 343 is fresh new, and energetic to get started on some real work with the Halo franchise

  6. 343 has a great respect for Halo’s history and meaning already proven by their announcement of CEA.

I don’t see the hate you’re referring to.

343 is handling the franchise better already. Title Updates, Halo CEA, more novels, and a new trilogy with us back in the boots of the Chief?

Can’t go wrong!

Turns out every Spartan gets Armor Lock in Halo 4 for an even playing field, and they just added custom loadouts to compete with CoD. Custom loadouts have always been in Halo anyway [insert vague proof here].
So unless they do something stupid, its rather difficult to not get it right when there is so much data to steer them in the right direction.

But I’ll be waiting.

Well I was going to post the latest news that the Title Update for Reach will include hats…

But I don’t think you want to see that…

XD

…I’ll gladly support hats in Halo with some random trivia, if need be. At least it would give me a laugh to know I canonized it.

The problem is 343i’s haven’t done anything substantial yet… They’ve just worked with the help of many other people on simple projects.

The Title Update is their first major impact on the Halo universe… It will be basically the only thing we can judge them on until the next Title Update or Halo 4.

They really need to knock it out of the park to get the fans pumped for Halo 4!

In my opinion, 343i seems more Bungie-esque than Bungie itself, in this current point in time.

Loyalty is to be earned. For the expanded universe, they have my trust. For games? Not yet.

I mean I feel like 343i has represented themselves as probably the most dedicated developer out there. They make Halo. Because of that focus, and other things, they just seem to really willing to appreciate the universe. They embrace Halo. Bungie made Halo, but at times they were unwilling to commit themself to it, probably because they just wanted to make Halo games, not be a Halo studio.

343i is all about Halo.

Now, however, while I will admit they have lots of big names in the company, they still have to prove themself in game development. Halo 1 will give us a taste but we won’t truly know until Halo 4.

Also, I think the community love is what you get when you hire a community fan site guy to be your writer for the website as opposed to a former 1up guy who was known to over-criticize games…

I get the idea that 343i is part Bungie, and a fan of it.
I mean, weekly updates and the whole <3 343i sort of speaks volumes.

I also get the impression that toward the end, after halo 2, bungie started to lean toward human over forerunner. I just get the feeling 343i really lieks forerunner…you know, the main part of halo.

Mainly because they are not changing anything Bungie didn’t change.

As long as Reach has bloom, people will hate 343i.

Other reasons, they are not familiar with Halo’s Gameplay Mechanics even though 343 is practically the biggest Halo Fanboys out there.

Why wouldn’t anyone at 343 be?

Why even make that statement?

I mean, just a hunch, but something tells me they’ll have a bloom option for TU1.

They has overseen very shoddy edit jobs on their Original Book Trilogy, my name for it, re-releases. Seriously, they had to release The Fall of Reach three times. Heck, they even allowed errors in their Visual Guide. I love Cryptum and Evolutions, but they need to get their crap together.

I’m reserving all of my Judgement for Halo 4.

I <343 343.
