I don’t know about everyone else, but most of the Halo 4 maps are too crowded! We want more maps with open space! The classic maps that most people can agree were lengendary and awesome were ones like Sand Trap (Halo 3), Blood Gulch (Halo), Hemmorage (Halo: Reach), Valhalla & Ragnarok (Halo 3 & 4), Avalanche (Halo 3), Sandbox (Halo 3), and Boardwalk (Halo: Reach); and then some with at least some large open areas such as Longshore and Rats Nest (Halo 3), Powerhouse (Halo: Reach), High 'Em High or High Noon (Halo: Reach & Halo), Foundry (Halo 3), Pit Stop (Halo 3), Tempest (Halo: Reach), and Pinnacle (Halo: Reach). I can list some other as well, but this list will suffice. Having lots of nooks and crannies for hiding is all well and good, but not on EVERY map! Give us an equal amount of open maps as crowded maps!
Haha. People complain about too open/too big.
Other too small/too crowded.
All in one day.
Yeah, I think 343 should do their own thing. XD
Crimson has One Small Map, One Medium and One Big. That’s how it should be to me.
And its the First DLC, the Concept Art of the others look even better.
I’m not referring to big or small maps, I am more referring to the openness of the map. Think Ragnarok versus Meltdown, one is a ton more open than the other. I want more open maps.
I second this to a certain degree. I’m pretty sure a lot of our favorite memories from past Halos were on those awesome canyon style maps, which were usually more open. However, Halo 4’s gameplay style is very different and until they add different “classic” gametypes, won’t really call for those types of maps.
I don’t… the DMR would just dominate it too much. Just like a lot of the Forge Maps in Reach.
Someones never played Last Resort, Rats Nest, Guardian, Terminal, Rat Race, Lock Out, Headlong, Burial Mounds, and dear lord my list can continue for infinity.
None of Halo 4’s maps are anywhere near as crowded as over half of the Halo 3 maps, Orbital, Guardian, are crowded, but Guardian is still a fan favorite for good reasons.
Want to know something else, Halo 4 shipped with 13 maps, but only 10 maps are online. They are missing Impact, Ravine, and Erosion. Those maps are not bad.
I couldn’t agree more. That’s what I’ve been griping about, and yes, I have every right to dislike the POORLY designed maps as much as anyone else has the right to like them.
They’re not only stuffy, but all pretty much organic as well. The one map that is not organic is the worst halo map in existence…can’t remember the name at the moment…you know…that circular piece of crap where you have to constantly watch your back all the time…ya that one. I’m not sure though if it’s as much the map design as much as it is spawn points.
I thought the maps and spawn points on Reach sucked and had faith 343 would amend this. Boy how I was wrong.
OP - To answer you title question, probably to negate the dominance of range that other maps create for the DMR.
With kill times so much faster than previous halo games, anyone who’s interested in staying alive needs to stay near some sort of cover. For that reason I think that any wide open maps would have a lot of non utilized space.
That being said, I think that a map like Standoff would work quite well. Long sight lines, just enough cover, and open space for vehicles to dominate.
i absolutely hate ragnarok way too big
You can’t have open maps anymore because of the DMR, just another reason why I hate it and another reason why I think the DMR is ruining Halo. The DMR dictates map design now. Want a Sandtrap remake? Lol nope. Its range and power is just too powerful for most of our classic beloved maps, its practically a mini sniper rifle. Valhalla (Ragnarok) even feels weird and quite frustrating at times because of the DMR. You know the devs have done something wrong when they introduce a loadout weapon they have to work around. (Talking about Bungie here not 343, obviously it was Bungie that introduced the bloody thing haha).

Which one is that?
if it feels crowded just use your jetpack to rain down terror.

Ya none of the maps in Crimson are even remotely considered a small map. A small map is a map like Haven and for Halo 4 thats pretty much it.
It isn’t just about having more open space though. Gaurdian or even The Pit had limited open space, and I’d be willing to bet if they included either map with Halo 4, everyone would be voting on it like they do Ragnarok. Ragnarok is just a better designed map. That’s why it gets the primary vote 9 out of 10 times. For some reason with Reach and especially Halo 4, they sought to fix what wasn’t broken, and broke it.

14 day quote but w/e
they are all 3 big team battle maps
Yes cause open maps with no cover and everyone with a DMR would be a blast.
NO.
And the last thing I want to see in Halo 4,5, or 6 is Blood Gulch/Hemorrhage. I’d rather have Burial Mounds.
