Why squad slayer was better than super slayer

So I’ve been playing this Super Slayer playlist for a while now, but I honestly have no idea how this playlist is better than Squad Slayer in any way.

Squad slayer:
-No armor lock
-Almost never matched full parties vs randoms
-Had a high population

This is what made Squad Slayer such a great playlist compared to Team Slayer and Super Slayer. Why would they take that away? It’s a shame.

I’ll give you party restrictions.

squad slayer was the mercenry/clan playlist of reach, this is the what seperated from super slayer …

> squad slayer was the mercenry/clan playlist of reach, this is the what seperated from super slayer …

The craziest thing is that it was accomplished in the same playlist.

yup, 343i were fools to remove it, they could have just re-named it …

Or apply it to every single playlist that is 8-10 players. Then there is really no need for ranked playlist since truskill starts to do its job in the regular playlists.

Thankfully Reach is almost dead, just a few more months and the nightmare will be over.

To bad it hasn’t lived up to its potential… at least not yet. Maybe we’ll see something in the coming months? Prob not…

Yeah. Squad Slayer showed that a decent matchmaking system in Reach is possible. They just aren’t using it.

You should also add:
-No Sword Base
-No crappy community maps
-4 player local(only slayer playlist to do this)
-Big party restrictions
-Heavier weighting on DMR starts

I honestly don’t understand why they haven’t done this, especially in the more populated playlists. BTB needs this, as this would help stop the To8 spawn killing.

“Better” is a relative term. Something is better for me if it meets my needs and desires more than what it is being compared to. Something is better for you if it meets your needs and desires more than what it is being compared to. My needs and desires may not be the same as yours. Hence the relativity of “better” and similar comparative words.

To me, Super Slayer is better than Squad Slayer because it has more maps available to choose from.

It also apparently has more AR starts. I’m not sure of this, since I rarely played Squad Slayer, but I’m told it does, and I accept this. I’m a fan of AR starts on MOST small maps, but obviously this is not a universal preference; so some argue this makes the playlist worse. Again, this is relative.

Squad Slayer had a 4 local players limit. I think this is terrible. Super Slayer has a 2 local players limit. I think this makes it a MUCH better playlist. It also allows for more of those maps to be used.

I don’t agree that Squad Slayer had a higher population at the time of the update than Super Slayer does now. If it did, it wasn’t significant enough for me to notice, nor was it significant enough for it to accrue any benefits that I can think of.

With the TU, Armor Lock is a non-issue with me.

The full party restrictions that Squad Slayer had was a good thing. I see no reason why they can’t be put into Super Slayer as well, removing one of your points. But even if this doesn’t happen, from my perspective, this negative attribute is not enough to supersede the other benefits I perceive I get from Super Slayer as compared to Squad Slayer.

Puntificator, I’m glad you enjoy Super Slayer, but can you stop making a point to argue against anyone and everyone who preferred Squad? You only played about .1% (25/15000) of your games in Squad, so why do you suddenly have such a strong opinion on the subject.

Lots of people played it. Lots of people liked it. You weren’t one of them. We get it…

I’m not trying to flame you or anything of the sort, but it doesn’t make any sense to me why you feel the need to be heard in every single thread about Squad when you didn’t even play it.

I am not arguing with anyone. OP asked a question, and I answered it. I am not aware of any restrictions to doing this; he certainly hasn’t requested any. I would think if his question were sincere, he would be open to hearing from everyone, not just those who support his viewpoint.

I don’t see you telling anyone, including yourself, to stop arguing against “anyone and everyone” who likes Vanilla Reach, or other issues that you oppose, so why the double standard? Nor do I recall your criticizing anyone for voting to make Team Slayer adopt the TU, even though they said they had no intention to play in TS.

A better question might be to ask why the OP is even posting his question in a new thread, since as you indicate, it’s already been addressed in other threads. One could even ask why you are posting here, since we already get you liked Squad Slayer and want it back; why endlessly repeat this?

Furthermore, I have a strong opinion on the subject because it affects things that I am interested in. OP didn’t simply address the removal of Squad Slayer; he compared it to Super Slayer, a playlist whose fate is of interest to me. An argument to make Super Slayer more like Squad Slayer could negatively (from my perspective) alter it. A return of Squad Slayer could potentially lead to the removal of Super Slayer, or prevent some other playlist I might prefer from coming into existence.

But in any case, this forum is open to all to express their opinions on any topic they wish, as long as they do so respectfully. Frankly, with no flame intended, I find your request bizarre and rather arrogant. I don’t want to sound egotistical, but it almost sounds like you’re targeting me because you can’t refute the arguments I present. Better to try doing so instead of trying to shut me up.

I don’t think he has to refute your arguments, though.

Saying Super Slayer is better than Squad Slayer is like saying you prefer to eat dog -Yoink- instead of a real milkyway bar. It sort of speaks for itself.

And even with the April Update, Super Slayer still can’t touch Squad.

  • 5v5 over 4v4 any day of the week
  • 75 kill limit over 50, any day of the week
  • no Derp Lock over Loadout Derp Lock, any day of the week
  • Squad Slayer was home to competitive MLG kids at times, Super Slayer is home to TS/TU kids
  • heavy weighting for DMR starts over garbage AR starts Super Slayer, any day of the week

Squad Slayer was a playlist that Bungie sculpted specifically after months of LISTENING to Reach diehards beg for an old school slayer playlist.

And considering how Reach has disappointed (how can anyone say it hasn’t disappointed when all these updates/requests cause more and more commotion? Success is folks clapping with enjoyment, not complaining 24/7) a playlist that was basically as far from original Reach as imaginable, would easily walk away with the bacon.
