Why spend so much on Halo 4

On one of my other threads, I was asking about which version of Halo 4 people were getting, and a surprising amount of people were talking about how they wanted to get the console version, and then a copy of the Limited Edition so they can have the bonuses from each. I really doubt that these people don’t have an Xbox 360 yet (because they have a Reach service card), and will you really spend $500 on a game to get all the bonus stuff? Some people were even like “I bought the last Halo console, but I might consider this one too.” Why on earth would anyone spend this much money to get another console? Now, I’m not that understanding of some gamers, since I have the original white Xbox 360 since 2007, but it took me a while to justify spending $100 on the LE. I can’t imagine spending a dollar more on a game.

some people are just really desperet for all the bonuses because they feel there missing out on something.
but i still wouldn’t do that. I just got standard edition

Easy for me to justify that, In Australia it costs $98 to buy a brand new game at the best of times, and back when MW2 was new it was $120.

Used to forking out a lot of money on a game, but I agree that people should buy the console for the console and not just the bonuses.

Guess they got money to blow. (Maybe no family or kids.)
I still have my white xbox arcade version with chewed up thumbsticks on my controller.

I don’t understand why people buy themed consoles at all. I mean, unless your current console is broken, I don’t see the point.

I think all in-game content and avatar goodies will be available on XBL Marketplace later on.

I am not sure about the LE and Console exclusives, but the retailer exclusives will be available.

When it comes to people buying everything for the bonuses, they’re doing it because they have a need to have all the in-game items they can get. But I guess that the rest of those people, the people who aren’t getting it all just for the bonuses, get it all because they’re fans, they like Halo related stuff. In the end, the final reason binding all these people together is probably a lot of money to spend.

None of it really makes any rational sense. But more often than not you find people thinking irrationally. Personally, I believe everyone should at least think twice and come up with at least one good reason why they need what they are getting. In the end, a piece of virtual armor isn’t really worth that much, and if you already own a special edition console that works fine, you probably don’t need a new one. In the end, it’s their money and I can’t influence people’s decisions, but thinking twice is very often a good practice.

I think its the replies might be a little skewed on this site too, considering most of us are Halo fanboys. I have the LE copy of the game pre-ordered but I’m contemplating downgrading to SE. I just think that I could spend the money saved on a whole different game.

However, I’m really cheap, with a wife and two kids, and in college so my opinion is probably really skewed.

In this world, some people will do whatever it takes to get everything, even if it does seem rather pointless. However… it is their money, their life, and if they want to p*** it all away on useless things to satisfy themselves/boost their ego, that’s their problem. Hopefully they can learn from their mistakes.

I would purchase the console bundle as well, but mainly because I am in much need for an upgrade… although I would like to get the FOTUS armour that comes with it as well, I think it looks badass.

Well my current xbox has just run out of warranty and is slowly dying.
By the time Halo 4 is out I’m pretty sure it will be in console heaven.
So the best option for me is the console edition.

I am also buying the Limited edition but selling the spare copy to a friend for £40.
So I won’t be out of pocket as the console will now cost me £224 + £70 - £40.

I now work full time in a job where I earn a decent amount.
As Halo has been a passion of mine for the last ten years,
I see no problem spending money on something I love.
It’s the same reason I buy snowboard gear, trainers, get tattoos, buy guitars.

Because I’m fortunate enough to feed my passions,
hell if you don’t work to get the money to get the things you love,
then why are you even bothering in the first place other than just to live?

I think it just depends on your own personal view. If the individual thinks spending that money on the game is justified. I personally would not spend over £500 on a season ticket to see Manchester United (or any football/soccer team for that matter). But I would spend £270 on a console which I already own, just because its transparent and has blue lights.

I also don’t really see the point in all of this.

I mean, you see people saying things like:

  • I’m getting both the LE and will probably buy the console too because I want FOTUS armor

Like really? You’re going to spend hundreds of dollars/euros/pounds just to get 1 single exclusive set of armor?

And then there’s also the people who buy the game multiple times, pre ordered at different retailers just to get all sorts of bonus content.
Like…WTF?!

Sure, I don’t care what people do with their money. Let me get that straight.
But I’m really curious to know what kind of thought process goes behind such thinking. I too have basically all the Limited Editions, but that’s about how far I go…and believe me: I am a huge Halo fan. And yes, I have both the Limited and regular edition of H2, but that’s because my LE disk was scratched to hell and I got a regular edition with Xbox Live…
But what the hell goes on in your mind if you’re willingly going to spend so much money just to get some armor sets you’re not going to care about in 2-3 years anymore?

That’s the main reason I don’t even buy Legendary Editions anymore. You get a plastic helmet or statue that after a while will just sit there and you really can’t justify why you bought the damn thing if you think about it.

I can understand people buying the console because their old one isn’t working to well and they need a new one, but the people that are buying all the editions just to get different bonuses are beyond me…

I could have gotten a standard copy of the game and the season pass separately but that would be practically the same price as the L.E. bar £5 so it doesn’t really make sense not to buy it.

L.E. is great value for money and I love buying steel tin editions of my favourite games, always have always will.

I do however find it strange that people are willing to drop £265 on a Halo console JUST for FOTUS lol… Jesus you will be able to easily get it from Ebay on the day of release for less much less.

Amen.

My personal preference is this.
I need a new console as mine is dying it’s a launch console…

The Limited edition comes with all the map packs that will cost around ($24.99)

I have Game points to the value of £40.00 a Friend is also buying
my spare copy that comes with the console for £40.

So in reality I’m really paying £248 pounds which is below the actual console price.

although I do agree that if I didn’t need the console I wouldn’t buy it especially not just for armour that I could buy for £15-£20 on ebay on launch day.

The limited edition will suffice, for now the console would have to wait a little longer hopefully I will still be able to get it because my current Xbox is on a death sentence in which is depressingly showing.

I’m buying the Limited Edition game because I want the bonuses, physical and digital.

I’m buying the console because I want a unique console. The design, blue lights, sounds. Also, I do need a bigger hard drive. The in-game armor is just even more incentive to buy it and enjoy it.

I hate to delve into my personal life, but I have a decent job to pay for it all too. Gaming is my biggest hobby, so why not spend money on it? There’s people out there who spend thousands of dollars making their cars look nice, so I see no difference. Also, Halo is my favorite game franchise, and Halo 4 is looking to be the best yet to me.

I can understand that scenario. Nothing wrong with that pal!

But buying a new console, when you got a perfectly good one, and another LE copy just to get a collection of polygons and pixels is a bit retarted to me.

Some people might be selling back their old systems, games, and whatnot to buy down the expenses. I’m a defector from Wii. Once I sold all my crap back to Gamestop, I had about plenty of money to offset the cost of purchasing the LE Halo 4 Console and LE Game. :=) Of course, now I have to sell the standard version of Halo that comes with the LE Halo 4 Console.

People may have done the same with their existing 360 consoles. (((Shrugs)))
