why spartan palmer is the best

The first time I was introduced to Spartan Palmer, it was so amazing. Her attitude, knowledge, and just overall person was amazing. And they did an even more amazing job with her in Halo 5. Being a strong independent female myself, I absolutely adore her in every way. I just really wish the game embraced her more, ya know?

who else agrees?

I don’t mind Spartan Palmer. I really don’t get the hate for her. I have even recently went back to playing some Spartan assault for some achievements.

Clears throat
I saw you standing at your ship,
armored hand on armored hip.
Both my hearts began to pound,
so lovely was what i found.
I love your brightly shining armor,
human named “Commander Palmer.”
I wish that we—WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE, GRUNT?
WHA-WHAT ARE YOU LAUGHING AT!?
I WILL TEAR OFF YOUR ARMS!”

This is obviously why she’s good.

I think the hate for Palmer comes from a slight error or oversight in writing Halo 4. People got a bit confused when she first greeted Chief and thought she was disrespecting him with her comment about his height. But to me, it was fairly clear she was messing with him and had a great amount of respect for him. That was evidenced even more inside Infinity when she clearly did not blindly follow Del Rio’s order to arrest Chief. She hesitated and looked at Del Rio like he was an idiot. Both of those are very subtle and I believe that’s what caused players to dislike her since there was no obvious action that showed her respect for Chief.

Palmer is also a great commander. She cares about her Spartans but is all about tough love. She herself said that the IV’s are all big-headed and need someone to keep them in line. Doesn’t mean she’s rude for no reason. A lot of football coaches, for instance, are just like that and accomplish great things like winning the Super Bowl.

To me, she should only be judged on how effective she is as a commander and a Spartan. In my mind, based on the above points, she’s pretty great. That being said though, because she’s all business and no spice (like Johnson and Miranda), she can be a little bland as a prominent character in a narrative-heavy universe (again, no knocks on her as a person).

EDIT: Discovered after posting that OP may be a troll lol. Regardless, comment still applies for discussing Palmer.

You do know these “people” in the game are not real, right?

I did “like” her in Halo 4, but then I also thought that was a good game…
I thought the hate for Palmer came from how she narrates Warzone, because they made her like Captain Obvious.
Mixed with classics like getting farmed, 3 people left on your team with Palmer going:
“Defend your Core Spartan!”
“-Yoink-, How about no! Imma hunker down and focus on getting my K/D non-negative!”

I don’t see any benefit to it, she’s fairly uninteresting.

I can’t tell if this post is satire or not. I’ll assume not though. Palmer just seems like a generic and uninteresting soldier to me. I would be glad if they had given her a bit of character development in the games, but at this point I feel like it would be too late to cram it all into infinite while also addressing everything else going on in the universe

“Defend your Core Spartan!”
Yep, this is why I don’t like her. Her voice anyways.

Quality -Yoink- post

Spartan ops really gave her the spotlight. with her taking the lead.

She became my favorite spartan next to the chief after reading Halo Evolutions. Chief suggests a far fetched plan to grab a warthog and Corporal Palmer responds-

“Chief, I believe I can honestly say that even though you are an honest-to-God one-man death squad, and that if you were to ask nicely I’d give up my lucrative career in the Corps and start pumping out your babies as fast as you could put them in me, there is no way that I am gonna run across fifty --godn-- meters of open terrain covered by three Jackal snipers that I can see just to jump into an open vehicle. Throwing myself on a -godn- grenade makes more sense than that. Out.”

That passage is far funnier if you listen to the audiobook. The novels are a good read/listen that offer CONSIDERABLE more character development and i highly recommend them all.

I’m going to be the one to disappoint you and say that Corporal Palmer from Palace Hotel is not the same Spartan Commander Palmer.

Ah, i just found some canon fodder Q/A’s saying the same thing. Would have been much cooler if it were. Now shes just another random spartan that idgaf about. Really annoying oversight to have two characters with very similar personas and names but no relation.

I agree. Did you know that a Swords of Sanghelios elite wrote a poem about her? It was pretty funny, but also heart-warming.

With Spartan Palmer I feel nothing but disappointment. They could have done so much with her in the games. She has so much potential, she’s amazing in the extended lore. Alas in the games much like with most characters introduced she left much to be desired.
