Why Spartan-IIs physics better than you think.

The point of this thread is to present some physically feats(with/out armor) for the IIs which have been uncommonly heard as well missed out heard or talked about in the internet. I also tend to clear up some misconceptions of the feats as well. A lot of these feats should give you more respect for the IIs.

Strength

Both with or out armor:

According to Halo encyclopedia, IIs can typically lift at least 2 ton(think it’s lower end of their strength not to mention it’s mixed gender) in mjolnir mark IV. Since the same armor doubles strength, essentially allowing them to have a 1 ton lifting capacity without armor which makes sense as they’re meant to get stronger. The Mark Vi also 5x strength, so they should be able to lift at least 5 tons in it. Which is consistent with this warthog calc I found. The same quote talks about a ballpark of sustained run.

> Revolutionary Battle suits
> After a few months, the SPARTAN-IIs were outfitted with another brainchild of Dr. Halsey: the MJOLNIR armor. This advanced exoskeleton suit contained the processing power of a starship and its physical enhancements allowed the weare to lift two tons and run at nearly 20 miles (32 kilometers) per hour. Over the course of their deployment, the Spartans were outfitted with multiple iterations of MJOLNIR technology, with ONI scientists delivering upgraded capabilities as quickly as resources would allow. The massive budgetary expenditures proved how effective and essential the SPARTAN-IIs had become against the human war effort against the insurgency and later, the greater threat of the Covenant, who appeared in 2525 CE. - Halo encyclopedia page 84

Without armor

In this scene during the Fall of Reach they’re denting thick titanium alloy plating as well as sending over half ton mech suit flying 8 meters away.

A first person perspective of the infamous 4 ODST gym fight scene from Hunt the Truth Ep.3. Some notable highlights are a man had his faced caved in, another man had a single body blow that stopped his heart, another had a single blow to the pelvis, another with a man had a shattered spine, and he never walked again. Fight took place in five seconds.

> Petrovsky: … young kid there, I mean - I guess you could call him a kid, he was- he was pretty jacked, you know, but his face looked twelve, maybe thirteen.
>
> Benjamin (voiceover): Twelve or thirteen? After enlisting, John didn’t even finish boot camp until at least seventeen. Petrovsky had to be wrong about his age, but I let it go.
>
> Petrovsky (in call): Anyway, I guess he was actin’ tough. When one of the guys, uh, asked his name, he told him, but he kind of, you know, gave him attitude, right? So - people start mouthing off, next thing I know, CPO orders the kid and four other guys into the ring. 'Cause it was supposed to, uh-
>
> Benjamin (in call): W- h-hold on, Anthony, wait - you’re - you’re telling me that the CPO ordered four soldiers to fight a high school kid?
>
> Petrovsky: No, a twelve- or thirteen-year-old, like I said.
>
> Benjamin: Yeah, fine, either way - the CPO ordered four ODSTs to fight a kid?
>
> Petrovsky (under): Yeah, man - (alone) you got it all wrong, okay, because those four ODSTs … were like lambs to the slaughter.
>
> Benjamin: What, John outfought them?
>
> Petrovsky: No. No, no, no. It was way worse.
>
> Benjamin (voiceover): As he tells it, the ODSTs did as they were ordered. They surrounded John, and one of them swung. What happened next, Petrovsky says, defied explanation.
>
> Petrovsky (in call): 'Cause the sound this kid’s fists made … it sounded awful. 'Cause they weren’t, like, punches, they were like - rapid-fire explosions. OK? I was across the gym, but I heard it. It was sick. Like meaty cracks in a drumroll. Just, [imitating the sound] BA-da-da-BA-da-da-BA-da-da-BA-da-da-BA.
>
> Benjamin (voiceover): One of the ODSTs sustained a single body blow that instantly stopped his heart, killing him. Another trooper only took one shot from John as well - a punch that caved in the man’s face. Two fatalities, one ODST with a cracked pelvis, and one with a shattered spine - that guy never walked again. No one had to break up the fight. It was over in less than five seconds.
>
> Benjamin (in call): Wait, he ki- he killed them?
>
> Petrovsky (in call): He did, it was impossible.

With Armor
Spartans destroying tanks with their bare fists in h2h. Here’s the gameplay footage and mind you there’s was some mistranslation in the video.

> Beta-Red Actual: “Visual! Thirty-two Wraiths moving with two-hundred sixty infantry at 200 meters, closing on our lines due west at six kilometers per hour. Beta-Red, hold position until I trigger primaries, then close on their front line as fast as you can.”
> Chapman: “-Yoink!-, Red, I heard you Spartans were crazy. Gamma-Five: radio check, over.”
> Buckman: “Five by five, Gamma-One Actual. Drone’s holding station at over ten thousand feet. We got eyes on the whole damn thing.”
> Chapman: “Those Spartans are crazy, they’re gonna get us killed.”
> Buckman: “Holy (static)! You’re ain’t gonna believe this! **Beta Red just punched right up into the guts of that Covie column!**Ever see a Spartan go hand to hand with a Wraith? Unbelievable!”
> Chapman: “What are eleven Spartans gonna do against thirty thousand Covenant? They’re dead men.”
> -Halo: Reach: Countdown radio conversation

A Spartan hits an elite 50 meters away

> “…as Adriana slammed her way out from behind a pile of discarded ship-mounted weapons and hit the closest Sanghelli with enough force to throw him fifty meters back. The limp alien slid across the deck plating.”
> – Halo envoy 213

Reflexes:
Without armor:

John dodging a point blank stun round. However that fact that it’s a stun round doesn’t make it slow as they’re considered lethal to John and is fired from a 30mm canon which fire over 800 m/s in real life. So most likely supersonic.

With Armor:

Chief jumps out of the way when on top of a wooden pool after a Skyhawk closes in and fires it’s 50mm cannon after the Skyhawk was locked on chief. He later lays in the ground to avoid being targeted. This a clear bullet timing feat not to mention 50mm cannons in real life fire around over 1000 m/s in real life.

Victor-101/ Black II dodges a point blank beam rifle which was aimed directly at him by another Spartan prior. These rifles have near mach 11 velocity, hence suggesting Spartan may have hypersonic reaction time.

A purple flash is fired from a jackal which is obviously a beam rifle. John was fast enough to jump in front of it to cover palmer, after it was fired. Keep in mind chief had to keep an eye on all the soldiers making it more of a difficult feat.

I wish they had made Locke vs Chief look like actual hand to hand combat with spartans. I think one of the best visual representation of Spartan speed and strenght was the cutscene with Jerome and brutes. And you gotta remember that brutes can move super fast too.

Speed:
Both with or out armor:

John sprints 65.2mph in mjolnir though keep in mind he was injured to the point where his MJOLNIR MARK V’s energy shields were completely drained, and had internal organ damage evident in the blood splatters across his HUD prior to running. Shrapnel from the missile probably was one of the main factors for his tendon tearing. In the novel it states he felt like he Achilles tendon tore not that it actually tore. If it did he wouldn’t be able to continue the sprint or let alone walk again after that. So even if he ran this speed, he was still able to walk and move fine.

> He could feel his Achilles tendon tear, but he didn’t slow. He crossed the half-kilometer stretch in 17 seconds.
> -Halo: Fall of Reach pg. 264

John running excess of 45mph while doing headshots to snipers.

> The concrete beneath the Spartan had turned to dust and gravel as he launched forward. **Barely a half second had passed and he was already 10 meters away…[**Palmer] looked up from her boots and saw that his hands were no longer empty-his right hand now held a massive hard-chromed M6D, and a spare magazine was in his left. 8 thunderclaps rang out so fast that they bled together into a single long roar…With one hand at thirty meters and a dead run, two shots apiece, each a hit to the head or neck, what the holy hell are my men even aiming at back there. -Halo evolutions pg. 360

Can run near 60kph and keep going.

> This was always the moment when Mendez fully appreciated just how different a Spartan-II was from a regular soldier and even from the Spartan-IIIs. He’d seen it hundreds, even thousands of times, but it was still sobering to watch a human being in a power-assisted suit accelerate to nearly sixty kilometers and hour and keep going. -Halo Glasslands pg 206

During halo legends: The Package Fred and the rest of blue who are keeping up with him ran past these two columns in a covenant ships. When putting together two frames with slight angle difference to figure out the total pixels distance, it was a total of 455 pixels. In order to get real measured distance, I used the 47 inches long Spartan laser which was 96 pixel long in the scene as a measuring stick. Since Between the columns was 455 pixels it would’ve had 4.55 times the length of a 47 inches Spartan laser. Which translate to 222.78 inches which can also translate 5.66 meters. Since It took 0.3 seconds(7:59.17-7:59.47) to reach column A to B.

So using the given numbers:

Distance - 5.56 m
Time - 0.3 s

5.56 m/0.3 s = 18.7 m/s = 41.83 mph or 67.32 kph

Due to factors such as Blue Team being engaged in combat, not pumping their arm which can aid in running and trying to keep in pace with each other while in a team formation, It’s unlikely that any of them are sprinting at max speed. The between column distance could be slightly longer due to Fred being closer to the camera.

Which is why 343 needs to hire blur more and not axis.

I believe that there is an instance in the Kilo 5 trilogy where Naomi uppercuts and kills a brute in one blow.
I don’t have the book on hand so tell me if I am wrong.

There’s also the Babysitter. Cal flights a brute chieftain in close quarters and even succeeds to stop the brute’s hammer in mid swing.
(however we have to question the legitimacy of this as its a cartoon)
