Why some changes are a good thing.

This is coming from someone who is very competitive, who watches and participated in MLG tournaments at one time. A lot of people have complained about these changes, even I have been very wary. So here is a rundown from my perspective on how these changes can be good.

  1. Random Weapon Spawns
  • as articulated by Frankie and the staff, they are not random. They have set spawns on the map, and have timers.
  • how does this benefit competition? it increases the skill-gap. instead of learning one spawn point for the sniper per se, with one set time…a team has to keep track of multiple spots and times. Timing is still a factor, because as a team, you want to set yourself up in the best possible position to secure the power weapon. With this, in a few weeks you will see top-tier players already running more complex power-weapon strats.
  1. Custom Loadouts
  • already stated, there will be weapons on the map already but you have the option of purchasing weapons and customizing your loadout on spawn.
  • how does this benefit us? EX: Slayer on Pit in H3. at the beginning of the game, everyone would normally go straight for a BR on their side of the map but there wasn’t enough. With custom loadouts for weapons, this problem is fixed. No longer will you spawn at mauler with an AR if you don’t want to.
  1. Sprint Standard
  • sprint has been added as an automatically available feature for everyone, no more having to choose between AA’s, it is standard.
  • this is good because it has been balanced. running away from a losing firefight or charging towards someone to double-melee is more ineffective because of damage slowing-down sprint. also, since it is standard for everyone it is an automatic balance. no one person in a game will be without sprint, so in regards to movement speed, you know what is coming.

Now i am not saying that this is fact, this is my opinion and just how I see it. Some of you may agree, while others will disagree. I would like your opinion on my thoughts, just to gauge where everyone is. (:

I’m glad to see someone who calls himself “competitive”, sees the potential in Halo 4 and I agree with what your saying.

thanks. dont get me wrong, i enjoy goofing off in halo. h2 you would have seen me super-bouncing and getting out of maps in customs as much as playing competitively.

i just see that there is a lot of potential here for some fantastic competitive play.

im not sure about the other things…aa’s and such, because i need to see what they are and if they are balanced.

Hell to me, in a way Reach was an experiment and I think 343 is leaning from it and is making sure AA’s and loadouts can truly work within the rules of the Halo sandbox.

> after bungie screwed up so terribly, it is hard for me to trust that they are doing it right, but you are correct…it seems like they are trying.
