Why So Much Hate For Locke?

Personally, I love Locke’s character. He’s a lot like the Chief from Bungie’s trilogy, in that he can be a man of few words and a soldier who is just following orders, but his background as an ONI agent provides a great contrast between him and Chief. I personally can’t wait to see more of him in the next Halo, and seeing Arby, Chief, and Locke fighting side by side would be one for the books.

What the hell do you guys hate him for?

Do you want to know what i hate most about locke? The fact that he’s in the game. Halo is Master Chief. Locke is taking over? Nope.

You played as the Rookie in Halo: ODST… And you played Noble 6 in Reach… You didn’t have a problem with them?

I am a big fan of Locke’s character. I thought it was a solid secondary. I just hate not using chief!

Those were different games odst and reach were focused on other people

Both of those were spin-offs.

It may sound racist but I’m just glad they have a black main character

Well, even so. Locke is technically a clone of Chief. Not in lore, but from a perspective. Like OP said, he’s a man of few words just doing his job.

And now that the game came out and the story is played, you can’t blame ONI for sending Locke after Chief. His intentions weren’t even to kill him, just apprehend.

The problem is, in Halo 5, too much Locke, not enough Chief. They should have at least alternated the levels between them. Have Locke first, thank Chief, than Locke next level, than Chief. And they even could have had a level where both teams, or, both main characters work together.

As it was, it’s obvious they are getting us ready for when the Chief retires. I’m fine with a new character taking over BTW. But the lack of Chief in H5, seeing as we were told that most of the game would be about his conflict with Locke, that one fight scene, while cool, didn’t live up to the Hunt campaign they showed us in the press.

Not racist. You appreciate diversity, which is a good thing

Are you kidding me with locke not talking. That’s all they freaking did the whole game. I have tv up to hear the guns and all the sounds of the game. Every 2 seconds one member is babbling about something. Then Locke’s stupid talking out loud, hey everyone get on the elevator. No -Yoink-. Or hey I’m underneath the shield. NO -Yoink-, the team is right beside me. There was way to much chatter in this game. Halo is master cheif, halo reach sucked balls, halo odst sucked balls. If you are going to make a halo without chief, then take halo out of the title

Halo is not Master Chief. Master Chief is the protagonist. Everyone needs to understand that Chief will not always be the face of Halo and get over it and their Bungie elitism.

I didn’t like Locke until I played the campaign. Locke is cool and all but once they try to pull me away from Chief or get rid of Chief then I’ll hate Locke. I liked how to campaign was put together.

How about you go away. If you are not team Chief then go back to Destiny.

Wow that’s a really stupid comparison.

ODST was originally meant as DLC from Bungie as a spin off and Reach was a prequel. It wasn’t advertised as something it isn’t.

The point I’m making is that having a different protagonist isn’t a bad thing. And even then Locke isn’t out to kill Chief or replace him. His role is about as on par with Arbiters in Halo 2.

You know why? Cause he will always live in chiefs shadow. He’s a Spartan 4 and Cortana said it best… “You aren’t Spartans… You’re children in costumes playing pretend compared to my Spartans” and they are. If ANYbody deserves the mantle of new main character for halo its one of Blue team. They are the only true Spartans left. The others are just cocky jerks in power armor.

I said the same thing about Locke. He has a lot of the same qualities as MC. Honor driven, solider to the end. Focuses on the mission ate hand and is a natural leader. I wasn’t so sure about him until I watched the Nightfall series. He is worthy of the Spartan designation.
