encourages team communication - encourages intelligence - encourages map awarenessWhile 343i reduced the radar size, it increased the “hints” it gives players making relying on radar less needed:
-
spartan chatter (callouts for teammates who don’t want to talk) - enemy hit markers (you know where the enemy is when using grenades/splash damage weapons) - player hit markers (you have a general direction of where you are taking damage from) - player pinging (lets you know what is happening and where) - audio specific hints (ground pound: you know someone is above you, shoulder charge: you know someone is sprinting toward your direction) - carnage report (lets you know who has what weapon and how many players on each team is on the map) - service tags above players (if yellow, you know your teammate has encountered an enemy)radar should only be used in close range encounters, why people whine about it, I have no idea.
They must have never played hardcore mode in past halo games.
You make some pretty good points as to how else to tell where a enemy player is OP.
Though, many arguments concerning the audio cues over the radar will be combated with the mindset that some people listen to other stuff like podcasts or music rather than the in-game noise, not that it’s a valid argument against them.
I always thought the radar should assist you, rather than it being the primary indicator of where an enemy is close by.
A lot of those other hints were already in past Halos, aside from the ones relating to sprinting, Spartan chatter, and enemy hit markers.
Having a 25m motion tracker doesn’t diminish teamwork. It should’ve stayed that way.

same. I’d like to see how they would play in hardcore mode with no radar.
Inb4 “motion tracker” phrasing snobs!

but noone cared for those “other hints” in past halo games because you didn’t have to care about it with the 25m radar.

lol I’ll give it 5 minutes
I agree. The motion tracker is a support tool for close quarters. It’s not something that should be heavily relied on for situational awareness.
That being said, the situational awareness in Halo 5 is terrible. The field of view way too low and the audio doesn’t even help in most cases. I can’t tell you how many times a ghost has snuck up on me simply because I couldn’t hear it and by the time it shows up on the motion tracker I barely have enough time to jump (and yes, I play with headphones).
I hope 343 keeps these things in mind for Halo 6.

I payed attention to them just fine. I see this as just another unnecessary change to the game. There was no issue with the previous motion tracker.
Games were still competitive and people still worked as a team with their own callouts and everything. If you or anyone else failed to do so, then that’s an issue with you, not the motion tracker.

Actually I noticed the increased radar make the game slower paced, because since you can anticipate the enemy farther away than Halo 5. You can either camp or prepare yourself. In Halo 5, you have less time to prepare yourself. Also if you camp around a corner, and a smart player knows you play like this and throws a grenade landing a hit marker, you just exposed yourself.

Ok, and I’ve seen, and have played, many fast paced matches in the older Halos with 25m. Nothing you said invalidates what I said.
There’s plenty of camping done in Halo 5, and the motion tracker gives you almost no time to prepare yourself. By the time you do notice someone, you’re already dead.
If sprint was not in the game then that might encourage teamwork but as the game is now, reducing the radar would give you less time to react and make map control harder.
P.S. you don’t know how the radar is used.
I’d rather not have it on altogether.
Since the change I find the radar unreliable so I never really use it anymore. Use to be useful but now it sort of just takes up screen space. It’s sometimes good to tell me at the last second that an enemy is assassinating me.
Most people don’t even look to the radar , don’t worry.
I’d rather they dropped the radar completely, there’s no need for it In competitive playlists
All I want is a HCS playlist with no radar.
Should be dropped all together or made bigger. Useless as it is now.
I find keeping it the way it is a distraction. No enemy - spartan charge - Dead.

At this point I’m inclined to agree. I felt like this is the most worthless radar in a Halo game. With the game being this fast paced and with the spawns being the way they are, I’ve felt like I’ve been playing Hardcore or SWAT the whole time. I also felt like it shouldn’t have been changed, why change what wasn’t broken? I still don’t even understand what was wrong with knowing if a person is above or below you. You know how weird it is playing on certain maps especially Darkstar thinking your base is being attacked, to realize it’s a bunch of Crawlers from the Knight Excavator?
I think it needs to have it’s range extended a bit. At least to the point where you see when someone starts their Spartan Charge. I know you can here it, but you still can’t do much to avoid it.
