Reach has been a favorite of mine and many others alike since it’s debut in 2010. It’s still played by many and is still held in high regard for many reasons.
Now with the debut of the Xbox One and the MCC many players are left wondering if we will see a remake or not and if so if whether it’ll be part of the MCC.
What I would like to say is that in reference to the latter, I hope not.
Reach was Bungie’s last great addition to the franchise and it was wonderful. While some fans may criticize Reach for it’s massive updates there’s undeniably something there to love.
It was a darker story that shined a light on not only a both sad and extremely key part in Halo’s story but the other Spartan heroes in it as well. The campaign had great replay value with new mechanics introduced and hidden gems all throughout.
The updated Forge was a massive addition that spawned some great creativity that even saw additions to matchmaking. Some great things were created that we haven’t seen since.
Multiplayer was smoother than ever. While not everyone liked Armour Abilities they added a fun new feature to the game that let players explore new possibilities and create fun new game types. Because loadouts were the same for everyone it kept with the arena style gameplay but added new tactics to how everyone played.
The BPR and ranking system was fair.
New Maps were introduced, many of which becoming instant favorites. Most had excellent lighting in comparison. When including DLC it also had extensive choices to choose from no mater what type of map you wanted.
Customization was and still somewhat is the most extensive out of all the games. Not only that but the detailing for armour was more extensive than every other in the franchise. (and for everyone I’ve spoke with it’s undoubtedly also has the best looking armour in the franchise)
Marty O’Donnell added some amazing score that managed to keep the same feel while still adding a new flavor.
Environmental and graphic effects were great.
The point is, overall Halo Reach had many great things that made it one of if not the best title in the franchise. And while some few may not completely agree, it’s still a great title and should be respected as such.
Anyway with every other major title in the franchise now making it’s way into MCC (that is, minus Halo Wars) and thus having a future in the next generation I believe it would be a great shame to let Halo Reach fade away with the past generation. However should it ever see a remake I think it would be best to have it as a full standalone game so as to prevent parts being cut out in order to fit in with the rest of MCC as other games have been.
If not then perhaps that’s for the best, so it can be left with other greats just the way it originally was. Nothing less than amazing
