Why did the didact need promethians ( human/AI ) Hybrids to be his personal army against the flood when he could have just as easily ( actually much more easily ) mass produced 1000 x 1000 sentinals to wage the war.
Granted the promethians exist to make the universe exciting, but I dont see why sentinals couldnt be used in volume.
I’m guessing maybe it had to do with intelligence levels and tactics, with sentinals being very basic fighting machines, and the promthians were quite advanced combat machines.
P.S. - I would love to see a new faction of enemy that is Purely based upon the sentinals with various new sentinal types making an appearance. Perhaps they could be controlled by a Rogue AI similar to 343 guilty spark that are based on yet another forerunner shield world in deep space.
Just think of sentinels as r2d2’s that go plugging into walls and stuff.
Think of them as janitors, scrubbing scuff marks and dusting.
They’re really just around to keep facilities looking clean and crisp.
Sentinel warriors would have been cool…
I think I would have enjoyed an army of sentinel-type robots. They could have had a lot of variants. Maybe even a war sphinx sort of enemy. Sleek silver, and blue-lighted weapons.
The Didact does use Sentinels. They can be seen on the last level as enemies.
But really it’s because they’ve been sidelined so the plot can focus on Chief and Cortana and the new elements.
That’s why Sentinels never show aggression except on the second mission (they only attack the Hunters, I think they ignore the 2 Elites) and why no other Sentinel in the game has interest in fighting.

What is happened to our fav AI the lady in our heads through out this game? Why was guilty spark so F*** up in the head?
AI’s have limits to smart and they are unreliable, not smart enough and they mindlessly use the same tactics over and over regardless of results.
So he needed an army that was both immune to the flood, and to the effects of the limits of AI. So he felt a hybrid was needed, and considering his opinion of humans, why not turn a problem into an solution.
There you go, insane alien logic 101. Next class we will be talking about why people feel the need to use c3p0 and r2d2 in most explanations of AI constructs, despite their status as lower intelligent droids.

The sentinels’s sole purpose is to maintain and protect the halo rings, they are only the enemy when they believe you’re the enemy.
